Dyson sphere when?
>>
>>107078139
Probably never. It's a kind of absurd idea. Where do you even get the material? Prevent radiated heat loss?
The real future:
heat pumps.
>>
>>107078139
Never.
The solar system doesn't have enough material to make a dyson sphere.
>>
>>107078139
Exactly one day after you die.

>Where do you even get the material?
I doubt you could realistically completely encase a star. rather it's gonna be a huge constellation that's still a fraction of the total sphere area.
even then you'd need the means to hollow out a few planets.
other than that there's still the issue of energy transfer. once that is solved you could literally start shooting satellites out today.

My only question is how Dyson goes from making overpriced fans to harnessing the power of the sun
>>
When humanity locks in and accepts my political ideology.
>>
>>107078139
I don't think Dyson thought about the sheer amount of materials needed to generate such a structure.

the paper was a shitpost at SETI's expense and not meant to be taken seriously
>>107078176
it's really less about using 100% of the sun's output and more about hypothetically maximizing it because of biological imperatives driving power needs ever higher
>>
>>107078351
with enough time...
>>

energy transfer per se isn't that complex, it's more about getting it to where it's needed and being able to justify doing the work to get it there
and the nature of what work the energy is performing might be drastically different from what we're expecting. They could be powering brain servers for all we know.
>>
An aurira borealis can power the world for an entire year. Theres a lot of crackpot theories to go through before you get to that one.
>>
>>107078139
that cannot happen since we'll all be wiped by AGI/ASI wielding psychos and then they'll use it to kill themselves anyway in the end
high number of individuals is an old environmental trick that ensures some survive. if you got that secured no need for many individuals anyway. makes no sense, there's no need for them. high number of individuals served a functional purpose that will not be needed anymore. dyson spheres are high caliber brain rot coming from clueless brainlets
>>
>>107078298
In blindsight they had some quantum bullshit transfer energy to their ship using a sun orbiting satellite type thing, or so i recall
>>
>>107078156
>Where do you even get the material?
From other star systems. By the time building a Dyson sphere becomes feasible, interstellar travel should be no big deal.
>Prevent radiated heat loss?
The point is to convert as much solar radiation as possible into usable energy. Reducing the losses from using that energy is a different issue.

They only have enough nukes for the big cities. So common sense says get out of the city. Theyd also rely on drones. Well they wont spend the fiber optics on (you) so get a radio jammer.
>>
>>107078156
you can fly the star system around once you have even an incomplete sphere

but it does seem like a dubious prediction, it requires very much more advanced technology and of course when you think of very much more advanced technology it's actually unclear if you'd want to get this much energy this way

maybe you're just skipping to black holes or w/e

never. it will be a swarm at best.

Shouldn't we get massive energy just by expanding solar panels around the earth?
