Ignore the price in image related. I bought mine on a 'first purchase' discount deal thing. For the price I wasn't expecting much. I bought it as an experiment to see how legitimate they are, as the storefront claims to have sold 5k units and it has a high review score. Tried F3 (fake flash finder) on Linux mint and it seems to crash at 32GB, and re-writes over existing data once it hits that point. I guess it has hacked firmware. Serial Number is 76E8-CACF. To good to be true, I suppose. Sad how there are like hundreds of listings of USB flash devices like this on Aliexpress. Ah well, that's why I went for the cheapest one.

There is no way this is fake. I think you're a fraud OP.

Thank you for keeping prices low on all the useful things from AliExpress. Without gullible people like you, the Chinese would go under in weeks.

Oh my god. Who could have seen this coming?

>Thank you for keeping prices low on all the useful things from AliExpress. Without gullible people like you, the Chinese would go under in weeks.

I bought it half expecting it to be fake. I was not disappointed. Only spent $1.60 with free shipping. I guess I donated to China, to help keep the country alive for another 2 seconds.
>>
>>107085657
You spent 1.60 for a 32GB drive to be sent thousands of miles across the world to your door. That's actually quite a good deal in its own right.
>>
>>107085576
$1 is pretty good for a 32GB drive. How fast is it? KDiskMark (no kde dependencies, NOT a kde "app")
>>
>>107085576
at least you got a 32GB drive for under $2.

yeah, the delivery was pretty fast on it, given that it is Aliexpress. I have no idea what the actual upload and download speeds are, given that it clearly has hacked firmware. I keep seeing these drives appear in large quantities on AliExpress over the last year. It is quite the epidemic. Took a tiny risk to see what these really were. I have no idea how to hack with the firmware... not even sure why they would sell these with a 2TB claim. Probably best to just buy a cheap 32GB USB stick from a local convenient store or something... and even then... why, for 32GB?

i'm sure there's a way to flash the correct firmware on it

once it goes over the 32GB mark it does a 'roll over' and overwrites the oldest data on the thumb drive. I suppose I could just partition it at 32GB and use it that way.
>>
>>107085756
the test program shows the name of the hardware chip used so reload the board with the correct firmware.
>>
>>107085788
>post benchmarks

I'm not a 'flash memory' bench mark kind of person. I would have to look up the software to do that. F3 kinda crashed when it hit 32GB, and didn't give me a read/ write speed.

Please file a dispute and give it a 1 star rating. Don't let the scammer make mony, even if it is only 2$.

Holy shit just download Kdiskmark and press the button

That makes sense

That would make even more sense but is there a trustworthy website to download flash drive firmwares?

Why is it so hard for this board to run a 30 second benchmark? It's like those troglodytes in desktop thread who try to show off their pc and HIDE THE CPU?!

Turns out that the GNOME Disks Utility has a built-in benchmark. So I used that instead. It is just USB 3.0. Not pretty. I don;t really benchmark hard drives or flash drives. It is out of my wheel house, as they say.

Couldn't help myself. They were all over aliexpress. I bought the cheapest one just to see what they were

Thanks for the effort but I'm looking for the 4k random read write performance. For reference, 0.5MB/s is what a 5400 rpm HDD does.

in conclusion it's actually faster to run your system from a flash drive than spinning rust
>>
>>107087121

No SMART data so you have to guess when it fails.
>>
>>107087121
you're absolutely right! this sample size of one is representative of every hard drive ever!

>>

i wonder if you could fix these to show the actual size of the disk?
cause $1 for a 32gb drive is really cheap

this. outchink the chink
>>
>>107087121
> faster than spinning rust
Sure. Spinning rust has a write durability on the order of 1*10^12.
The nand or nor flash has a write durability of around 10.
You destructively tested it.

then find a way to properly partition the usb drive as 32 gb so you get a (shitty) 32 gb usb drive that works for free.

you can expect about 10-30 writes on the drive before it breaks
I should probably not use ext4 file system on my drive

I purchased Fanxiang and Lenovo branded 1TB SSD drives and they worked fine and are indeed 1Tb. They were both less than $40.
>>
>>107088699
Do you understand what anecdotal evidence is and why it's never relevant?
>>
>>107088724

So your saying the guy who started this thread with a $5 2TB drive that turned out to be fake is not relevant ?
>>
>>107085576
$5 list price for 2 TB? What did you expect, of course it's phony.

With the discount it's not a bad price for a 32 GB drive, even a pretty low quality one. If you can't find the tools to correct the reported capacity, just partition it to just shy of the real capacity and you should be good. You still shouldn't trust it with the only copy of anything important though. It's likely a piece of shit drive.

Also, that serial number just looks like a FAT32 volume serial number. These are assigned randomly when a disk is formatted.
>>
>>107085576
Just ask for a refund
>>
>>107088724
If 1 person bought a large capacity Fanxiang drive and it was legit, that is relevant. One company isn't likely to manufacture both legit and fake large USB sticks, so Fanxiang is likely legit, though it says nothing about quality, speed or durability.

Chinese shipping is amazing. I paid $100 in shipping for a product I paid $100 for from USA (to europe). Meanwhile I pay $0 in shipping for a product I paid for $2 from china.
>>
>>107085662
>>107090422
That's because most first world countries charge shipping depending on how much money the countries have.
If it comes from China, your US postal service will charge cents.
How does it get financed? By charging you $100 for something that comes from a first world country.
It doesn't actually cost $100 and $2. The $100 offset the loss from the $2.
