is it worth it to jumpstart dead laptop batteries? I got 4 oem x230 batteries that are dead and won't charge when plugged in. Have you guys done it and would you recommend it?

It will blow. You can try taking them apart and replacing cells

unless they have screws, which they don't they're ultrasonically welded, you'll just rip it apart

I didn't take ThinkPad batteries apart but D series Dell ones I just was able to spread apart with razor blade

it can be just locked with at least 90% capacity left. just seach electronics repairs school on yt. it has tons of videos with batteries 100% but locked. 99% are just good batteries in a bad state.

The only viable way to revive dead laptop batteries is to recell them, as in replace the dead cells inside with new ones. Older laptops usually utilize 18650s.
I've attempted to recell a dead R40 battery (a 2001 laptop) with new 18650 cells. However the Battery Management System refused to charge the new batteries because it held in its memory data about the previous spent up cells and after trying several ways to reflash/modify the BMS I ended up bricking it, so I bit the bullet and bought an aftermarket (which apparently do the same thing anyway, they scavenge BMSes from dead laptop batteries, recell them and reprogram the BMS properly with relatively expensive specialized tools).
As long as you don't something extremely retarded like shorting the two ends of a long chain of batteries it should be fine.

I don't know about new ones, but old laptop batteries can be easily pried open with a razor blade.
