I am extremely annoyed with Windows 11 lately. It literally is a mess. Do I go back to Windows 10 or 7 for gayming, are modern gayms even compatible?

It is compatible with all or almost all steam games which are modern games and then you can also install ppsspp, dolphin, RPCS3, and pcsx2 for emulators. The only games you can't run are Valorant, apex legends, battlefield 6, and fortnite. It's because they are anti-cheat. It's very easy to install the drivers and get things to work with steam with proton with this os. This is an alternative to going back to windows 10 or 7 for gaming.

I tried with a cheap laptop I bought but it wouldn't boot. chatgpt said it was probably usb 3.0 drivers (or something like that, I didn't care enough to remember or troubleshoot before I returned it). I imagine if you want to run "modern gayms" then you have modern hardware and, while it might be doable, you will probably run into more trouble than trying to figure out linux.
