At this point I think Windows XP is so vulnerable that I wouldn't be surprised if you get malware just from using your computer normally, even if you're trying to be careful.

There was never an option to upgrade, the people responsible just released a new machine, with entirely new software, couple of years later. Same with medical tools, endoscopes and the like.
