we had a windows xp at home that I played lots of games with, but some would run poorly, like the nintendo ds emulator, then my mom got a windows vista laptop from her work, and she let me use it to see how it is, but not install new games, just play the ones that are already there. I played that cake making game a little, then made a hidden folder with the ds emulator, so I'd sneak in and play on it while she was sleeping, I played a lot of animal crossing and a bunch of random roms i downloaded. I had an actual ds but I didn't have a flashcard, so testing games on emulators before buying was a good strategy.I know everyone remembers vista as being a shit OS, but I still have fond memories of it being fast and futuristic. I think I still have that laptop somewhere around here.

Which sucks because the top of the line setup at the time was S939 A64 X2 + Radeon x1950 Pro. Had to get a Via chipset motherboard so I could use it, but it was worth it.Later on I had to deal with the fact that you couldn't straight up upgrade from 32bit to 64bit Windows, you had to manually migrate your account data if it was possible.

I used Windows Vista on an Acer Aspire 5315 and it ran fine with full Aero. I used Vista all the way up until 2010, when I upgraded to 7, then 8.1 in 2014. Vista and 8.1 remain my favorite Windows versions post 2000 and NT4.
