I hope you don't want to buy DDR5 memory in the near future lmao
>>
I did, in fact.

line goes up that means gooderer
also wtf am i looking at?
>>
I want DDR4

what happened?

not buying ddr5 until zen6 x3d launches
plenty of time for the market to come back down
>>
not untill an x3d cpu supports cudimms.
>>
I have 40GB of DDR4 and 50+GB of DDR3. My only problem is a lack of DDR2

Fuck off.
China no longer trusts the US or Nvidia.
China needs RAM for its own AI chips.
Thus: RAM prices go up.
>>
>>107094752
>>107094988
why would that affect DDR5 RAM prices?
did some factory get flooded, burned or something?
>>
>>107095237
When demand exceeds supply, prices go up. This is not rocket science.
>>
>>107095237
Because you use RAM for AI?
>>
>>107095251
ok, and where does the increase in demand come from? the GPUs not bought from nvidia will probably have the same amount of RAM.

china has its own RAM factories, and I wouldn't be surprised if trump threatened non-chinese (mainland) RAM manufacturers with sanctions from selling to china.

this seems totally manufactured.
>>
>>107095237
The same factories that make ram can be easily modified to produce ai chips since china's LLMs tend to be leaner and a bit more efficient.
But even if they weren't specifically creating AI chips RAM is still super useful. Even my crappy 3050 gpu can use system memory to help with AI at the cost of being a tiny bit slower
>>
>>107095237
What happened is RAM and storage manufacturers using a sizable chunk of their production capacity to build stuff needed by upcoming AI data centers, reducing supply for other products.
>>
Ya'll niggas stupid. Anyone serious in AI/LLMs is not using DDR5. This also isn't anything new. All of the serious players in AI have already been stocking up for years now.

>Even my crappy 3050 gpu can use system memory to help with AI at the cost of being a tiny bit slower
Also disingenuous post. Having to swap out to system memory from VRAM tanks performance on any serious model sizes.
>>
>>107095376
you think their server boards hosting thier gpu clusters are not maxxed out with ddr5?
>>
>>107095376
Are you fucking retarded or something.
China banned outside AI chips. They need all hands on deck producing literally any type of chip rn and AI absolutely uses ddr5 because GPUs/ai chips can use your system's memory for a little boost.
unlike the US china is pushing for AI to be a personal, local thing instead of the cloud aws fucking subscription hell they aim for here.
>>
>>107094818
Some big fat slob keeps randomly changing tariff rates.
>>
>>107095386
Are you stupid? Have you seen deepseek? That shit runs on sbc pi clones.
The US is fucking cooked. All it takes is a single incident and aws or azure goes down and so does its AI capabilities.
China's aiming for AI that runs locally even if the internet cuts out.
>>
>>107095376
Yeah, ddr5 comes nowhere near gddr7/hbm4 throughput, it’s a waste for AI stuff
>>
>>107095376
this. wtf? why are these retards arguing for collusion? lmao

nta but are YOU retarded? you didn't even answer me. why would that translate to higher demand?

Educate yourself. Their smallest model does run on the RPi locally. So do several other small ones.

>>
It's almost doned as well as my PMs this year, glad I upgraded in Q1
>>
>it's another episode of computer hardware going into bubble wasteland
The GPU mining bubble was bad enough, those LLM tards should learn to code and not just throw full-fat data centers into problems
>>
>>107094752
I bought some RIGHT NOW.
Would have saved ~30-40% if I had ordered 2 days ago.
I doubt it's gonna get cheaper anytime soon though.

I was planning on doing this very thing after the holidays. Very neat!
>>
>>107094752
DDR4 prices almost doubled in my area.
I have an older system and was looking to add 16GB, it cost 50 bucks a few months ago. Now it's 100 bucks.
Good riddance, I won't buy any in the next 5 years
>>
>>107094752
so these are the real reasons:
https://www.tomshardware.com/pc-components/dram/dram-prices-are-about-to-skyrocket-ddr4-and-gddr6-among-formats-that-could-increase-in-price-by-up-to-45-percent
>DRAM prices are expected to climb sharply in the third quarter of 2025, with increases of up to 45% depending on the product, according to TrendForce. This price surge will reportedly be driven by capacity reallocations, product phase-outs, and demand from both AI servers and seasonal consumer trends. Notably, outgoing types of memory will experience the highest increases. However, the TrendForce analysis does not include 25% U.S. import tariffs on products from Japan and Korea.

>prices of previous-generation types of memory are going to increase considerably. DDR4 prices are set to surge meaningfully due to tightening supply and end-of-life programs started at major DRAM makers, with PC DDR4 projected to rise by 38% to 43% and server DDR4 by 28% to 33%, according to TrendForce. LPDDR4X, facing rapid supply withdrawal and strong restocking demand, is expected to jump by 23% to 28%. GDDR6 will also see substantial price increases of 28% to 33% as suppliers shift focus to GDDR7, which will create short-term shortages amid ongoing GPU restocking.
amerimutts are feeling increase in prices of RAM AND tariffs
>>
>>107094865
>>107095402
So we're winning?
>>
>>107097142
I learned this when I bought ddr4 in 2016 when it was still a relatively new standard, buy early and pay less, once everyone else wants to upgrade the price goes up
>>
>scare china into not buying AI chips because you bought the entirety of nvidia
>repeatedly turn tariffs on and off like its a fucking toy for toddlers on your high chair
>china responds by saying fuck it, we'll make our own AI chips
>this takes up all of the resources normally used by fabricators that export RAM and other computer components
>"gee i wonder why ram is so expensive!"
oh my god you stupid motherfuckers are actually unreal.
>>
>>107097258
and from china's POV
>make the only SOTA models capable of running on consumer/prosumer HW
>slowly but surely erode NV's CUDA moat
>now we have chips and most of the supply chain to manufacture them
>geohot lives here now
If they don't invade Taiwan and fuck everything up, the chinks have a real chance at taking the West's tech throne.

So is it the the fracking byproducts polluting your drinking water that makes you fuckers this goddamn retarded or is it genetic?
You guys even pissed off Greenland and Canada aka the two countries willing to do the dirty work (refining, mining) for you dumb motherfuckers /for fucking free/ and only was charging you guys for the end product.

>>make the only SOTA models capable of running on consumer/prosumer HW

>>china literally told the planet last year that it was making LLMs that work offline with minimal system resources and /open sourced deepseek to prove it?
why do you faggots keep making shit up? go ask >>>/g/lmg how much resources running deepseek r1 (not the distills, the real thing) requires.
>>
>>107097732
Are you implying that
1) quants reducing the VRAM requirements by ~half make the model significantly worse?
2) building a 4-8x5090 rig is cheaper than acquiring a couple of H100s?
3) lower params have no value?
4) there is no way to only offload some layers to the GPU for a minimal performance cost?
5) someone else is releasing small models worth caring about?
Please answer each question with your reasoning.

>>
>>107095376
exactly. its just your standard 24 month price hike from the hynix/samsung chinks

has absolutely NOTHING to do with (((AI)))
stop falling for currynigger blogspam all copying the same fake news clickbait
>>
>>107097983
Because memtest is slow if you have a lot of ram, especially if you want to be sure and run at least 10 loops.
Meanwhile trying to do what you normally do on your computer might reveal sources of instabilities faster, once you've confirmed this THEN you can run memtest and go through your troubleshooting checklist.
>b-but what if memtest discovers something wrong in the last few pages of memory? This isn't something that should be a problem in normal every day use
Then you failed at building a computer with specs you ACTUALLY need and overspent and you'll NGMI.
>>
>>107097518

its both, actually
asbestos and lead from the 60s & 70s
