I asked chatgpt what my use cases were and what I prioritized in a Linux distro and it recommended Kubuntu 24

Is this a good choice for a daily driver on my laptop?
>>
>>107099031
Mediocre choice but at least it isn't Windows 11. Fedora KDE will suit anybody better.
>>
>>107099031
what makes you think choice is a metric? what is the use case?
>>

>>
>>107099031
Good choice, at least in my opinion.

If you wanna use Kubuntu, DON'T use Kubuntu LTS. It's so stupid that the LTS download is the first one listed on the website, but just get regular Kubuntu instead.
>>
>>107099031
>>107099057
This. KDE is better on Fedora anyway. Go with that.
>>
>>107099183
Is kubuntu 25 stable?

I'm already using 24 LTS and it's incredible smooth and stable for me
>>
>>107099206
Stability is the whole point
>>
>>107099223
Okay, so if I don't want to spend hours a week wondering why something broke, should I just stick to 24 LTS?
>>
>>107099230
It's stable, Anon. If you want a shitty old kernel that halves your FPS in every game, or if you would rather use a 10yo build of GIMP, then go ahead and use LTS.
>>
Just don't use any Ubuntu derivatives.
Use Debian or Fedora or Endeavour.

its honesly not bad, could be a lot worse. At least it has a lot of support.
>>

Honestly for the everyday use its probably top 5.
1. Mint
2. Ubuntu
3. Fedora
4. Debian
5. Arch

not many others I would reccomend to normal people.

Yes.
Don't listen to idiots recommending shit like mint with it's GTK based slow ass UI, or arch/ gentoo imbecils.

Kubuntu is the most hassle free OOB KDE based goodness with snappy and feature rich software ecosystem.
>>
>>107099597
>Arch
>normal people

No, just recommend them CachyOS instead. Maybe Endeavour with XFCE for lower-end specs.

Why do you recommend cachyos and endeavor with xfce for lower end specs? Also I plan to install endeavor os xfce once my Fujitsu laptop arrives and continue my arch based journey since I used to use manjaro 2022 and before but I hear it's not recommended anymore but many have recommended to me endeavor os xfce for speed.
>>
Avoid Kubuntu, especially LTS.
You'll be stuck with 5 year old bugs that got fixed 4 years ago.
Use a modern distro, but avoid "gaming" or otherwise niche distros. You'll run into issues with your laptop, at the very least your battery will get fucked.
My favorite is OpenSuse Tumbleweed.
Most stable KDE experience I've ever had in 10 years and it has fresh software.
>>
>>107100869
>OpenSuse Tumbleweed
Don't third-party codecs break every time there's a new OS update?
>>
>>107100712
Most people are going in on CachyOS with KDE which is a more bloated Desktop Environment than Xfce which is more lightweight on resources. Doesn't matter if you have a lower end specs or not to use Xfce but again it's easier on resources if you so happen to have something with less RAM or that's a bit under powered. Manjaro hasn't really been recommended for the last 5 years now. Endeavour and Arco definitely became the go to for those not just installing Arch at the beginning of the decade. However, ArcoLinux was discontinued earlier this year.

Are you needing an Arch based distro specifically? There's so many packages that have AppImages or Flatpaks now where the AUR being one of the main reasons to use Arch is definitely not as relevant as it once was. Also there's downloading tarballs and just installing a package that way as well. So there's plenty of options out there for you depending on what your usecase may be.
>>
>>107099031
Fedora KDE (its fork Ultramarine with third-party codecs) and Kubuntu are basically fine to use.
>>
>>107100897
No idea where you got that from, but I never had issues with third party codecs. Neither with Leap (laptop) , nor TW (desktop).
Why and how would they break anyway? That doesn't even make sense.

It's been 4 months and you've still posted absolutely no beef. Could this be because beef is illegal in your jurisdiction? Much to think about!

is this the power of cow piss?

What a stupid and pointless response. You've been given timestamped pictures of beef, and pictures of beef being eaten in front of a monitor displaying your retarded posts. Your refusal to post beef is solely due to the fact you are a Hindu.
>>
>>107099206
Yes, I've been using 25.10 for a couple months now, it's good.
>>
>>107099206
don't ever use non-LTS Ubuntu or Ubuntu derivatives. If you need newer stuff for some reason, just use Fedora
>>
>>107102698
Bad advice.
>>
>>107099031
if you want a windows style taskbar, avoid the bloat get mint or pop, both of which are basically ubuntu minus cano bloat

mint +cinnamon is similar to kde, or you can outright install kde plasma

pop out of the box comes with gnome or if you get the beta- cosmos, but again you can just purposely install kde-plasma.

if you dont have corsair/steel series, you can go down the "arch" path with cachy or manjaro. cachy comes out the box with kde plasma+wayland instead of x11. it's good for steam games, but again.. if you have certain brands that aren't simply plug n play they're likely not going to work well out the box

tl;dr
>if you have a nvidia graphics card, get pop, otherwise go fedora or mint
>google "how to install kde plasma on [distro i use here"

if you wanna get autistic with it, install compiz as your window manager
>>
>>107100406
They could install CachyOS with XFCE, as long as their CPU is at least 4th gen Intel, and benefit even more on a lower-end machine.
>>
>>107103077
Mint and Cinnamon are so fucking bad kek
>>
>>107103764
I think what people don't quite understand is that what matters most for picking a daily driver environment is which projects have the largest communities and most resources for troubleshooting. Projects that are maintained by a handful of people and are on a rolling release are prone to breaking and are not great for a generalist user.
>>
>>107099031
If you constantly need an outside source to tell you what you want and what you need, you should stick with Apple products and their OS.
>>
>>107099031
Ubuntu security is worse than Fedora because it uses apparmor instead of SElinux. You can turn it on and configure it yourself but seems like a pain.
On the other hand, you can run kubuntu LTS for greater stability which Fedora has no alternative for.
>>107099183
just use fedora at that point.
>>
>>107100406
Don't you notice something with his list? It's from easy to hard. Mint, ubuntu, fedora, debian, arch... there is a distro for every usecase and I agree with his top 5.
>>
>>107104319
most people dont need SElinux
>>
>>107104478
it's nice to have though. If Linux uptake keeps increasing then it'll become a bigger target
>>
>>107099031
Yes, Kubuntu is fine. But my personal recommendation would be instead:
>1. Mint Cinnamon
>2. Mint XFCE
>3. Xubuntu
All those 4 are basically the same but with a different out of the box UI & package base, and for your use case I think the others are better.

Whatever Linux distro you're using, you're using the wrong one, idiot. That's how Loonix trannies can always justify their shitshow of an operating system.

>>
>>107099031
As others said the Fedora or OpenSUSE versions with KDE would be a better choice.
Ubuntu spin offs still rely on snaps and other Canonical technology rather than industry standards, making them annoying to use imho.
>>
bazzite for babbies
cachyos when you get some experience
>>
>>107099031
No matter what your use cases are, just use Mint.
