So my VG248QE gave the ghost,
It was a 1080p, TN 144Hz monitor.

What would the "modern equivalent" be?
I'm tired of this 240hz hdr 400 1ms, ips light bleed memes.

There seems to be literally nothing out ther that can safely replace it. Fuck I hate 2025, all "last years" models seem to be "unavailable". Hair pulling shit!

I guess if you want something similar, and are set on it being a TN panel...

Nothing is perfect, must do compromise especially if cheap
>TN
Became a meme for esports monitor, >500hz only, still poor blacks and vertical angle washout
>VA
Supplants TN on the low end, but is also on midrange. Still promises 3000:1 contrast but has poor lateral view angle and smearing. Colors might be mute on very cheap screens
>IPS
Ips glow but better view angles and color reproduction. Mostlry midrange choice.
Second hand ips with ccfl backlight may have low mura effect and backlight bleed but will be limited to 75Hz
Cheap miniled from tcl has high luminance and local dimming, but has low led zones count so it has ringing effect on dynamic/LD mode.

Netherlands

I tried the VG249QML5A The other day, and returned it day 2.
Vertical pixel inversion, was like i was looking through prison bars. And the ips light bleed was killing me. And for some reason the viewing angles were horrific

Nawh man. Motion was great and angles/colors were "OK" rly. Tho I had the feeling Its been sold to me new but really second hand. It always had all kinds of issues. Weird light bleed, random zones with horizontal "signal" looking scanlines.
Now with blacks it starts to show red speckles and whatnot. Very inconsistent weird stuff

Op here
I imagined and hoped 5 years later tech would've caught up. But its the same as always it seems

I recently got an IPS for a friend and it has garbage view angles compared with my 10 year old BenQ VA.
Dimmer, too. It's hard to find 300 nit anymore.
The colors were good, but I don't know if I'd use it.
>>
>>107100397
Are you absolutely sure it's was an IPS? Describe the viewing angle behavior. Entry-level IPS panels from a decade ago easily beat any VA or TN.
>>
>>107100428
1000% sure
Lightbleed was horrid
And if I'd sit right in front of it
The lower left and right hand corners would almost invert the colors. Would be way darker. You couldnt lean in or everything would become inverted

Thanks anon for your interest, any other Monitor suggestions?

I'm using a touch screen portable ips, I'm thinking of getting another, I've already got 2, the only hard requirement for me is that it uses dc brightness control, pwm is garbage and make my eyes bleed, don't know why people hate ips, if you put your autism aside for a moment it looks the best
>>

>You couldnt lean in or everything would become inverted
That's not IPS behavior at all, it's just not something that technology is capable of doing. Shittier VAs and all TNs exhibit that exact behavior though.
IPS panels only ever get "muted", washed out, low-contrasty, but gamma looks always the same. Under no circumstances do they invert color.

>any other Monitor suggestions?
I myself just run older used Eizo panels. 60hz but it's the only reliable way to get fairly uniform IPS panels. It feels like all (affordable) IPS gaming monitors are full of hotspots, bleed and glow. So I don't bother. For games I just run a 21" Trinitron CRT.
I am honestly interested myself if an affordable (or an older "golden" model second-hand) 1440p 27" high refresh rate monitor exists that doesn't cut corners on backlight uniformity. I do want something more than 60hz for desktop.

Do you know which?

>shit viewing angles
always thought it's a meme, but I just bought a cheap monitor as a secondary vertical screen and the viewing angles are so bad that I see a noticeable difference between the middle and the top/bottom of the screen. Very annoying
