What happened here?

>What happened here?
no competition, zero reasons to run anything else on a desktop, every other choice is dog shit
>>
>>107100164
Stockholm syndrome. The same happened with Win7 as people held out on XP for as long as possible.
The same happened with XP and people stuck with 98.

Whatever is currently supported and is the least shit version will be the "best". So windows 10 in this case.
>>
After they added a dark mode it was good. Still had memory leaks dough until 2021 lol

Linux wasn't a great option yet in the 2010s
>>
>>107100164
people have internalized enshittification. they still dislike it (otherwise they would jump on the windows 11 bandwagon without second thoughts), but they've internalized it

Most of the hate comes from having ads and forced microsft account integration which isn't a thing on LTSC at least on /g/.

Windows 10 got better.
>>

11 is almost as shitcoded as linux, it's kind of regressing into a linux like os with shitscripts holding the thing together like duct tape lmao

>>
>>107100164
8 released before it and was utter dogshit
So 10 was seen as "not too bad"
And there are people who insist on staying on 7 at the time too anyway
>>
>>107100536
Lol university students going into debt and paying to learn linux (they call it computer science nowadays) are turning effeminate because they're getting fucked from all sides
>>
>>107100525
linux is a lot less buggy and faster than any windows version post windows xp, if you know what you're doing, even with the heaviest DEs (which are not heavy at all compared to windows). But Linux can be many things including shitware and it's definitely not for everyone
>>

When shit gets worse and worse you cling to the oldest that still kinda works.
>>
>>107100589
I've been leaning more towards open source recently, I've got a void boot set up but I feel that once you go down the open source rabbit hole you'll end up disappointed because barely anything works on the linux libre kernels, so you'll still have to live with blobs if you want to use a computer at all
>>
>>107100651
It's literally not possible for Windows be faster when it uses so much of your RAM and CPU lol

The same thing that always happens. By 2032 when they replace Windows 11 with something else, these same people will babble "I love windows 11 noooooo"
>>
>microshit spends 10 years fixing windows 10
>its finally usable
>noo you must updoot!!1
i shant
>>
>>107100837
but thats good THO
>>
>>107100861
I didn't love 7 in 2009, I don't love it now either. It was alright in 2009 but today it's unusable trash because nothing supports it anymore.
>>
>>107100867
Windows 11 hasn't made any meaningful progress as an os except to promote and popularize linux they even stepped back features that might make updating worthwhile like the android subsystem

It's a dead baby os and they're trying to force people into using it because it's such shit people are moving to linux
>>
>>107100899

Only because they extorted people into "upgrading" and in some cases even doing it without their consent. It's been a LONG time since consumers have actually wanted to upgrade Windows.
>>
>>107100931
I mean what do you expect? Why would Microsoft support an OS they don't want you using? That'd be absolutely retarded.
>>
what happened is that Microsoft has learned to stop overlapping support with older versions.
When Windows 7 dropped, 2000 XP and Vista were all still supported.
When Windows 8 dropped, XP, Vista and 7 were all still supported.
When Windows 10 dropped, Vista 7 and 8 were all still supported.
When Windows 11 dropped, only 10 was still supported.
Now we only have Windows 11.
Microsoft is done with preserving older products.
>>
>>107100946
Pretty sure Windows 8.1 was supported when 11 was released.
>>
went from w7 to w11 with startallback in 2021, it's been fine
>>
>>107100946
Done with preserving current product too, curry os 11 stinks bad and development is pretty much abandoned

So much for "security updates" lmao
>>
>>107100164
"Windows 10" isn't even a real thing. Windows 10 1507 (released in 2015) and Windows 10 22h2 (released in 2022) are completely different operating systems. It's just a marketing name.

i still hate wintra$h 10.
i used w8.1 until mid-2019
then i installed w10.
then in early 2020 i nuked w10 and do my gaymen on loonis because i ran out of patience for w10 nuking itself.
>>
>>107100164
>What happened here?
Something even worse came. It's like when people suddenly started liking XP or 7 although all of them were absolute garbage compared to Linux
>>
>>107100674
the blobs are only firmware stuff which I really don't care about. I'm not a libre purist. I think open source software and libre is good, but I don't see it as a hard requirement for absolutely everything
>>
>>107100899
it was literally the best OS of its time
>inb4 freeturd musings
>>
windows 10 isn't Satya's product Windows 11 is, that's why they want it dead.
>>
>>107101105
I remember it being buggy and having annoying slowdowns that could only be fixed after restarting it every so often, another dead baby os
>>
>>107100164
>Everyone hates Windows 10
no? all the 'hate' was from a vocal minority of win7 autists, but it was far better than all previous windows versions (apart from 2000). Now 11 and the upcoming 12 is AI spyware galore and by default utter dog shit.
>>
>>107101114
worked on my machine
>>
>>107100164
Most people just don't like change. I hated windows 10 so I stayed on windows 7 for as long as possible, then went from windows 10 to windows 11 at the first chance I got. And despite how shit windows 11 is I still prefer it to windows 10.
>>
>>107101105
It was dethroned by 8.1
7tards who think 7 was the best never looked into anything else
>>
>>107100164
Win2000 & WinNT4 were great once they were done. Win 7 sucked ass until it was done, then it was great. Win8 sucked ass the entire time & was such garbage compared to mature 7, MS had to distance themselves from it by a whole release and skip 9 & go to win10 which started out rough compared to a final mature install of win7 & sucked ass until it was refined for a decade & mature. Then win11 came out rough and compared to a final mature 10 sucked ass. See the fucking pattern? A final release of an OS with all its kinks worked out is always better than a new OS full of issues. But Win11 is just butchered win10 with worse stability & more anti-user & surveillance garbage baked in, so fuck your 11 up its ass. Win7 & 10 is the end of windows.
>>
>>107101124

I'm not defending windows 11, it runs like shit and has constant bugs. I'm shitting on windows 10.
>>
>>107100164
bot posting, new generation of teenagers posting on 4chan now, it's not new so contrarianism isn't relevant, even among tech literates most don't know shit about OSs and minor differences, probably more things I'm not thinking of. All of this can be summarized as "because everyone fucking sucks."

and thats how we got w10
>>
>>107100164
I'm on win11 ltsc and it's the best shit no nonsense
>>
>>107101246
Windows 10 brought back the traditional start menu whole keeping live tiles which I liked, also has a dark mode for explorer

Anyhow linux is the future, currysoft is abandoning traditional operating systems
>>
>>107101269
>currysoft is abandoning traditional operating systems
good.
they seem to hate making os'es anyways
everything is outsourced. quality is turboshit.
seems like m$ft deliberately want to enshittify their os to troll everybody

im sure its revenge for how w8/8.1 was treated
i would have done the same
and the most cynical thing?
>start menu is a react app on w11
>>
Then Win8 sucked, win 10 was okay
Now Win11 sucks even harder so win10 appears perfect
>>
>>107100164
Same thing happened to XP
we all hated the Fischer-Price toy look when it came out
When 8.0 was out it looked pretty good in the rear view mirror
>>
>>107100443
>The same happened with Win7 as people held out on XP for as long as possible.
I'd still use windows 7 if I could, but it became a nightmare to install on newer hardware after a while.
>>
>>107101627
win xp never looked good
>fisher price
exactly for that reason.

w8 looked gorgeous.
modern, clean, and ethnically homogenous design.
>>
>>107101627
>>107101739
in fact ill go even further:
w8/81 was a modernization of the classic w3/w95/w98 look
a reditus ad fontes, but updated to modern standards
>>
>why is bad thing remembered more fondly once worse thing arrives
A mystery
>>
>>107101765
eh, thats a normograd thing
ill always say w10 was shit
ill always say wxp was slow
ill always say w98 was unstable
w95 gets a pass bc it was still recent-ish tech at that time. also bc i dont remember much of it
>>
>>107100164
I dunno. I'm on win11, seems the same as 10. Less polished than macos, buut it'll do. Would propably switch to some debian-based distro or fedora if linux had native adobe and ableton support
>>
>>107100520
Partly this, but more importantly 11 got much, much worse
>>
>>107100164
Win 10 sucks but 11 is worse
XP and 7 were the golden versions
>>
>>107102242
won't take long until the Recall "feature" is enabled by default
and then its data will be stored in "the cloud" (AI learning center) instead of locally
you WILL get ads inside the file explorer, in the task manager, and you will get popups every 5 minutes that lock you out of using the PC until you finish watching an unskippable ad
the AI will also filter all your keystrokes for naughty phrases and report you to the feds

if not 11, then 12 will fully push this through
>>
>>107102770
thats bullshit but i unironically believe it
>>
>>107102838
at this point i don't trust them not to do it
>>
>>107100164

>>

>>
>>107100164
I've used every Windows from XP onward except 8.1. The only one I didn't like was 8. The rest were a good experience, even the server versions I tried too.
>>
>>107100164
The same way everyone pretends to hate rounded corners again, XP, 7 & Vista had them, they were praised for their designs, now that Windows 11 has them again, it's hated.
It's called mentall illness I think.
