You can't be THAT productive with a UMPC, at least as it is, but it's some of the coziest fucking tech ever created.

There was an era where having a full-fledged PC that fit in your pocket was blisteringly cutting edge, it's not just about gaming. The smartphone simply supplanted it but we lost something special. Even now it still feels more versatile than my phone ever could be. I've always held a soft spot for this form factor ever since I got my Sony Vaio UX-380N.

How do you use a tiny keyboard like that? You'd press like four buttons at once, shrek.

Pocket-sized computing would have been the ultimate realization of x86 computing but we never quite got there. Almost did but it couldn't get out of the early adoption stage.

I call this paradigm "surface-less" computing, since even a laptop needs you to rest it on something (a table or, nominally, your lap). This sort of computing can be done simply by holding the device between your hands and nothing else, which is a great idea if it could have evolved properly (all the legacy and current compatibility of Windows' dominant software dynasty but now carried around on your person) but I guess people just didn't see the point of going that small with a computer and couldn't get their minds out of the standard "seated-at-a-keyboard-in-front-of-a-monitor" paradigm for this sort of computing.

I'm 44 so I've lived through all of these devices. My advice is to ditch everything that encourages you to crane your neck down. And don't say skill issue with a picture of someone holding an iphone at eye level, literally no one maintains that habit. The Apple Vision would be an unironically better device to use daily as retarded as they are. Your neck habits can ruin your entire life.

I still have my orginal GPD pocket. The chinky keyboard has died so it's touchscreen only.

I can't even imagine how slow and shitty that thing must be from trying to run modern Windows.

>>107104535
It was a cool concept but the reality was shit. Awful battery life, sluggish to use and holy fuck did you hear the fan on those things kick on all the time.
>>
>>107110076
N300 is 8c/8t. Runs Windows fine.
>>
>>107103132
I haven't had a chance to use a modern netbook BUT I have a theory

The pocket and especially micro fit into smaller satchel bags and fanny packs or even jackets that I'd carry with me anyway, so I would not have to specifically bring a laptop bag, it would just become a part of my EDC.
Unlike a classic laptop that you need to find a place to sit down to use, it SHOULD be usable while standing up, save from typing a lot of text at a time.
That means I SHOULD be able to use it to do studying and coding that I sometimes do in my free time.
If I use it to doomscroll, then I achieved almost nothing, but if I force myself to write, code, design as I do on the go, then I will defeat the "smart" Phone.
Pin it to 5W to avoid heating and maximise battery life, raise it to 15W only if compiling something truly massive or running something demanding.

Am I delusional?
>>
>>107110762
My boss literally asked me to find her a laptop that fits in her bag. Nothing else mattered.
>>
>>107110762
I am a netbook fan but I really don't like using laptops without a desk or a mouse, and I hate touchscreens.
That being said, there have been a chink mini-laptop resurgence with better specs and even smaller form factors, which I am always happy about.
