What are the system requirements? Does the entire baseline win32 api work?
Users, registry, processes, tokens, etc.? I assume OpenGL doesn't work, but what about WinGDI?
>>
>>107103267
Well, the aithor literally says that almost nothing works, so try it yourself, I guess.
I mean, it's a few MB. Installing VMware will take longer tham running this.

This is a classic VirtualBox escape exploit virus. Make sure to NOT run this or at least make sure your VBox is up to date

I am so surprised that the file explorer works and it looks really good too.
though it seems to open a new window every time a directory is opened, just like windows 95 did.

There is not much that can be done without at least common dialogs dll, can't even compile a basic editor. I was hoping vim would work but it also depends on that

I got a text editor to work on it, open/save dialogs don't work though
I also tried to get openjdk to work on it but it requires winsock2.dll or something like that. Sadly.

Too bad windows is so opaque in how it operates that you are left with a useless monolith if you actually want to daily drive this.
People do the same shit with linux and it's trivial to as a user add functionality until you are more bloated than noobuntu
>>
>>107106509
I love this, because I personally always liked NT kernel, but I hated windows bloat.
I wonder if I can make a bootable USB running this.

I am currently looking for a terminal that is written in win32 api, doesn't seem like there is any though.
I hate the cmd.exe because it cannot resize horizontally

LMAO

there are a bunch of terminals for windows here:
https://github.com/cdleon/awesome-terminals?tab=readme-ov-file#windows
https://mspoweruser.com/best-terminal-for-windows/
>>
>>107107002
I figured out that prior to windows 10, there is no support for pseudo terminals, so you are basically stuck with the "hardcoded" conhost since resding from stdin depends on ReadConsoleW which is in kernel32.dll. so until we get source code for win7, there is probably nothing to be done.
>>
>>107107611

we do have source code for vista though?

I see.
I don't know much about windows or system programming, so I don't really know why you wouldn't be able to run busybox (or any other cli interpreter/utilities) without cmd... but that fucking sucks

can’t get a virus by going online if networking is permanently broken anon

actually now that I think about it, how many viruses would actually work on this completely butchered OS
>>
>>107108400
You can run them, there just isn't a terminal to display shit. One could use a normal handle for stdin and stdout, but then things like colors won't work because it would depend on win32 console api
>>
Now do windows 10

>>
>>107106921
Isn't that a conhost issue? The same problem doesn't happen on newer windows version.
I need to try it, but you might be able to use a newer conhost, if it even is being developed... I got used to the windows terminal and I use it a lot on windows 11 paired with powershell, so I'm not even sure if "conhost" is even a thing anymore.
No harm in trying it. See if you can run modern conhost on it (again, I'm probably talking out of my ass, no idea how it'll work, if at all).
>>

no, it needs to just work, otherwise it's souless
