>15 years has passed>tablets failed>gnome still wont accept itfor what purpose they keep a failed concept alive for so long? tablets market died like 10 years ago, only current use case for tablets is for designers and yet linux barely support any draw tablet in the market.
you don't need an ui, only a printer
>>107107745yeah touch was a pipedream for DEs, I am not sure why they fell for it so hard. It violates the unix design philosphy of minimalism and modular software development.
>>107107745Cause GNOME Shell is a pleasure to work with the keyboard and is something KTards will never understand. KDE keeps maitaining options that even Windows deprecated.

I use XFCE because it requires no crazy config.I've tried to use xmonad and other tiling WM but its just too much hassle. For example if you want to adjust the volume on a tiling WM you'd use keybinds for everything that need to be setup otherwise its pavucontrolYou also have to manually set keyboard rates and mouse speed manually with commands.Or one time I had a problem where xmonad was not fullscreening games correctly when I launched them so I had to do all this work to get full screening to work correctly and even then a lot of games had bugs where when it was fullscreen it was buggy and clicking wouldnt work properly.I never had any of these problems on XFCE and everything just werks.I mean you can set up tiling WM down to a keybind for EVERYTHING but at the end of the day IDK. Using XFCE feels more natural to me with moving files, editing and such
>>107107745use case for linux?
>>107107745>>tablets failed>>gnome still wont accept itGNOME shell was not designed for a tablet interface. The hot-corner activities behavior makes no sense for a tablet. It wasn't even possible to shut down 3.0 from the desktop without holding the shift key to change the session menu contents. GNOME Mobile still isn't a major concern and regularly breaks on new GNOME releases.
>>107107745Looks like macOS and for whatever reason people think that's a good thing.
>>107110106>i look at cumpooter i see foodretard
>>107110221usecase for shutting down? on an iPad (what GNOME wanted to copy) you have to go deep into the Settings app to find a way to shut it down. otherwise you can just turn the screen off

>>107107745Windows sucks. The solution the freetards have is to make Desktop Linux look like Windows.
>>107110248some of us want macOSWe want an improvement over a Windows-like UI.
>>107107745Yeah, GNOME really chased a dead end trend.
>>107110221>It wasn't even possible to shut down 3.0You're supposed to hold down the button on the side of the tablet.
>>107112610>lol mousebabbies can't into poweruser mindsetBy "poweruser mindset" you mean "doing the same thing in a slower more complicated way."But rote memorisation is the midwit's favourite way to make himself feel smart. So I can see why keyboard driven UIs are so popular.

I honestly can't understand where all this "let's all shit on GNOME" comes from, to be honest. As a Linux user who's tried almost every DE and standalone WM and who's currently using GNOME on his main desktop PC I kinda regret not having tried it earlier: it feels snappy, coherent and very comfortable as a daily workstation. The only thing which comes close to GNOME in my experience is Cinnamon but it's uglier and lack of Wayland support is kinda bad right now.
>>107107745You're not supposed to use the app grid to launch frequently used apps when using a keyboard, it's there for touch and mouse only users. Use the dash by clicking/tapping or by using its keyboard shortcuts or press the Super/Windows key and type the app's name, GNOME isn't and shouldn't be designed for baby ducks that refuse to move on from Win9x.
