Dwarf Fortress. Tarn and Zack never really made classic ASCII fully usable in the Steam edition (some actions are impossible to read) but I still think it's one of the best games ever made.

>>107110689I've been trying to force myself to play various simulators lately, particularly enjoyed car mechanic simulator, it gave me the confidence to successfully attempt some moderately difficult repairs IRL. Wouldn't hesitate to do most repairs on my vehicles now. Got a couple of sailing simulators I'm trying to force myself through now, I want to learn how to operate a yacht. >>107110910I managed to push through around 60 hours but I really struggle with the surface layers. Hills and trees and shit on the surface are abstract cancer. I'd prefer if they just made the surface one flat layer more like rimworld.

It's not easy fun, but its definitely rewarding fun. The thinking man's fun. I've never seen another game that does it better or even comes close to those ones! Sadly. Too bad he retired. :(
