>recognise Taiwan
>half your country's bus fleet is now inoperable
Yeah... Maybe I should get those winter tyres for my bike
>>
>>107111250
They should build their own buses in Europe. It makes no sense to buy them from China.
>>
>>107111263
Trump has been doing that in the US with tariffs and lefties are losing their mind because when you pay first worlders to build products, they cost more
>>
>>107111250
>Electric
>Public Transport
Sounds like a problem exclusively affecting faggots and niggers, I approve
>>
>>107111263
costs more. china already has the industry for it. china also has all the necessary suppliers for it. and don't forget it's cheaper.
>>
>>107111250
deserve it for supporting the green scam
>>
>>107111263
>They should build their own buses in Europe.
there are a bunch of companies building them, idk if any of them have electrical variants
>>
>>107111263
I'm sure China can provide you with batteries for your 'European' buses... for the right price of course.
>>
>>107111250
>recognise Taiwan
as a part of china? I don't see any reason to do otherwise
>>
>>107111263
>>107111360
They do, and those don't have kill switches
>Ruter took two electric bus models inside a Faraday cage room
>buses from the Chinese company Yutong could be disabled via remote control capabilities found in the bus software, diagnostics module, and battery and power control systems
>Similar backdoor control capabilities, usually at least officially frowned upon in Western tech companies, weren’t found in buses bought from Dutch company VDL.
>Ruter disabled web connectivity on the buses by removing SIM cards from the onboard modems
https://cybernews.com/security/norway-china-electric-buses-remote-control/
>>
since you can do a lot of damage with a bus it's kinda cool to just be able to disable it remotely
>>
>>107111250
>electric buses
why??? trolleybuses with batteries make sense to go between parts of the city that don't have the infrastructure, but regular buses? come the fuck on.

we've got those in my city and when the driver needs to reach an area without the wires he just switches to the normal gas engine and retracts the horns things so I guess you can call it an hybrid? I think hybrids make more sense than full electric because the current tech sucks
>>
>>107111275
A lot more. Turns out all the logistics for materials is built in China.
>>
>>107111431
>trolleybuses with batteries make sense to go between parts of the city that don't have the infrastructure, but regular buses?
reduces visual noise and if it's actually necessary cities usually have trams (or metros). I don't think i've ever seen a trolleybus outside of ex soviet countries
>>
>>107111466
I think a trolleybus with batteries makes more sense than a hybrid because not having two different types of engines reduces overall complexity, increasing overall reliability and simplifying maintenance.
>>
>>107111512
there are a few in germany. in like bigger cities. both in the south and north.
>>
>>107111263
We used to do that, then our kike mayor sold out. And some greedy idiots thought it a good idea to put DRM in trains.
>>
>>107111597
>there are a few in germany. in like bigger cities
only 3 cities are left with them but in the past there were more, which i didn't know
>>
>>107111263
they have to think of the poor investors and shareholders
>>
>>107111578
that means relying on china again though. isn't china the main battery producer? I think countries should steer away from over reliance on big commercial partners and diversify things
>>
>>107111250
the only real worry is hackers
>>
>>107111619
maastricht also has some.
>>
>>107111642
And the onboard software. The surveillance systems sold to consumers in my country are mainly chink products rebranded with western name and they really really try their best to make you sign up and log in into their account system in order to manage your security system remotely.

I.e., an ex-soviet country
>>
>>107111649
sure, just doesn't change my point that at some point it becomes better to have trams for more frequented routes and regular buses for the less frequented ones
>>
>>107111639
I was merely talking about the tech, not the politics of it. I do agree that having other battery suppliers would be preferable.
>>
>>107111275
But nobody produces in the US. They just pay the tarrifs because it's still cheaper.

Hi, Pinoy.

Norway refuses to buy Swedish buses or anything Swedish because they think Sweden is trying to annex Norway.

Scandinavian countries are dooming themselves.
>>
>>107111760
You could just learn from history why that doesn't work, but sure. Make that mistake. Let it be a surprise.
>>
>>107111263
You run into a balancing issue with doing it properly, which is that you need it to be just complicated enough for corrupt politicians to skim off the top, but not so complicated that corrupt politicians and the mob skimming off the top kills the project.
This unfortunately makes proper infra like trolley buses untenable if their infrastructure has already been torn down.
>>107111512
>Reduces visual noise
It'd be better to eliminate on-street and aboveground parking first, right after removing escooter and ebike rentals.
>>107111321
Battery electric buses are shit, but public transport keeps more people off the roads, which improves the car driving experience immeasurably.
>>
>>107111379
>The investigation comes after transport authorities in Norway, where the Yutong buses are also in service, found that the Chinese supplier had remote access for software updates and diagnostics to the vehicles’ control systems – which could be exploited to affect buses while in transit.

Yutong said it “strictly complies with the applicable laws, regulations, and industry standards of the locations where its vehicles operate” and that Yutong vehicle terminal data in the EU were stored at an Amazon Web Services (AWS) datacentre in Frankfurt.

not a problem then

china does this business better atm. though ideally it's way better for the west to produce these things totally domestically.

you should anyway, winter biking is good Type II fun

it's miserable in the moment but you stay warm throughout your ride from the exercise and you can flex on all the fatties that can't do it.

>>107111360
yuro land definitely has electric buses but i can say for a fat that Nova Bus operates in canada and yurop and makes both electrics and hybrids
>>
>>107111263
My town bought a whole flotilla years ago from a spanish firm. At great cost and replacing a tram project that was almost out of planning phase. Tramways are superior in every way to BRT btw and are much less disruptive to others forms of transit they share the town with. They weren't built to handle the cold at all (apparently Spanish winter is basically summer in the rest of Europe) and every winter they shit the bed. They have been in a legal battle ever since. Buying "local" is no guarantee of quality or even sovereignty when you consider where the parts/stock/materials come from.

TPBP.

Tibet, meanwhile, at least has a claim to be a country.
>>
>>107111379
Why the fuck do buses have on-board modems? There is no need for internet connectivity on a fucking bus.

>Yeah, but what if it breaks down?
We have this wonderful invention called (the) "cell phone(s)" that the driver uses to contact the fleet head.
>>
>>107115259
At least to confirm whether digital tickets/passes are valid and report their location. I can check the location of any bus in my city at any point
>>
>>107115788
That's an entirely ancillary system installed by the transit authority and completely unrelated to this nonsense of giving the botnet low level access to the entire drivetrain and body control modules.
