Welcome to the inaugural edition of /sugma/. This is the startup general for the likeminded folks who love a good grind and doing the needful.
Ambitions are high; we aim to build an MVP with the lofty goal of onboarding at least 1 user.
As a first step, we are going to brainstorm ideas and pick the most promising one best suited to our unique skillset.

/twg/ and /utwg/ refugees are welcome as well as logo designers. Let the ideas flow.

Heres an idea ive had for years: a limbless "green screen" sex doll you can overlay any character you want to in a VR game, so it would world like any character customization and just get displayed on top of the doll with specific detection points. They could then add facial expressions and simulated limbs via software.
>>
nah there won't be any valuable ideas because low hanging fruits are all done, and that's why tech is stagnating now

probably too big of a project for the first edition, we want to build momentum

>>107111841
we are not looking for hockey stick growth and buyouts, in fact, not even looking to monetize. We want to go full grassroots, just building an mvp (better) serving users.

As someone who's currently working on a tech project on my own and living with my parents, at what point can I go "yeah I'm an entrepreneur, I'm building a start-up" or whatever they tend to say?

1 paying customer desu. still a really easy and small target to hit ie feasible. all depends on your pricing, targeting.
but anyway just getting 1 user is dead easy
>>
>>107112146
it is a mindset. You don't ask for permission. Merely posting in this thread and huffing your own bs qualifies you as a Founder(tm)
That said, if you want to throw your idea in, feel free to do so and let your co-founder peers take it up a notch.
>>
>>107112189
maybe, but consider the boundary condition we are crowdsourcing on 4chan, building in the public. We are not just building a product, we are building a world class team. 1 user is just the very first step.

wait you actually want us all working on one project? thats not very entrepreneurial we're becoming like a beuracracy when u talk about co-founders and peers >>107112200
i get the humor of it but idk how serious you are being. i want to give business advice, sincerely. but i probably wont want to work in public with you guys no offense.

communication ~= beuracracy
indeed, the idea is to build something on 4chan. Make it useful, make it fun. See how far it can go. Maybe we won't even agree on the direction to take. Maybe we will clear the logo designed level.

That already exists, its called VR Chat

Cute girl operating system. As in, the OS itself is a cute girl, with built-in speech synthesizer that vocalizes system messages in a cute way (i.e. "You do not have permission to access that folder" is instead vocalized as "M-Master, please don't touch that folder, it's private!"). In the corner of the screen, you can also see a small window showing a visual representation of your OS's "mood" via cute facial expressions (dictated by general system performance, any direct interaction with the OS using the chat box in this window, and a dash of total randomness).
I call it NekoOS since I initially envisioned this to have the personality of a catgirl, but anything works.

I got like 50 paid users. Need to double this shit to pay the bills but I've stagnated for like a year. I think it's because I've saturated my organic social media. But SEO just doesn't seem to work for me so idk. Maybe I'll just go back to shilling to individual people

Since you're here, I'm planning on starting a startup with a couple of folks IRL. Without going into specifics of the project, what are some general advice you can share?
>>
Should I even bother starting up an IT consultancy? I told myself I would if I didn't find a job by the time my unemployment runs out but I feel like even here in the Midwest there are enough people doing the same thing that I'll just end up spinning my wheels with no hope of actually succeeding.

you just need to reshift your priorities
"IT Consultancy" in the middle of nowhere, thats kinda larp/cringe territory especially when youre just starting, and have nothing to show for it (a website doesnt count)
BUT, you can definitely still provide a lot of value. you just have to reposition yourself from "smart technical computer nerd" to "nerd that can tap on the keyboard and make things happen in my shop"
they most likely don't care, have been burned before, etc. so you'll probably want to start off with a 'free chat'
bring them materials, talk to them like youre interested (you genuinely should be, faggot)
show them youre legit, teach them some basic principles shit, like you notice small fixes around the shop they can do. you talk to them and uncover some mistakes.
no they wont be able to pay you a lot.
no they wont be impressed because u spend 12 hrs a day online.
yes there is still value there in you helping them. if nothing comes of it, atleast you got a lot of confidence and improved your social skills.

>nerd that can tap on the keyboard and make things happen in my shop
That's kind of where I hoped to position myself. If these companies think of me as a magic computer man, so much the better.
>you'll probably want to start off with a 'free chat'
I did actually think about this, too. I've seen loads of freelancers, start-ups and bigger companies alike try and get clients with cold emails, but 9 times out of 10 those go straight to the fucking spam filter or the trash. I figure it'd be fairly easy to differentiate myself just by going in and presenting my case in person, having a conversation without sounding like a fucking door-to-door salesman asshole. Let them know I'm a person, not a product.

when i was starting out i tried to focus on one thing, sure i'll have a discussion about whatever they want to talk about. facebook ads. email. but when i went in there, i had only one thing to sell in mind.
this goes against the 'adaptive consultant' who should ideally be able to solve any problem, and its true they can, but that involves a lot of them hiring other professionals to fix the things in those fields. so youre not at that point yet, and i wasnt yet.
so you pick one thing, one thing no one else wants to do because its work. you talk to them, and you try to sell them this one service that you have a lot of faith in.
my first starting sales thing was flyers. i will design and deliver X amount of flyers for your business to the neighborhood. WHAT!? THATS WORK!!! THATS CRAZY EFFORT! yeah it is a lot of work, but you're your own boss so the labor feels differently. and, thats pretty much the best thing you could ever do for a potential client because it shows you legitimately sweat for them, you talk the talk.

Speak of the devil, I had just launched mine today.
