Jesus christ this project manager I'm working with has really thin skin. He scheduled a meeting for noon because one of our guys is in another time zone. I told that that while I understand the circumstances, in the future we should do our best to avoid meetings during lunch, and he's taking this like as like a personal attack or something. I say>Me: I think we should avoid 12pm meetings generallyThis led the conversation to>Him: I just feel if you want to carve that boundary out in your life put the calendar block, so I'm not getting chewed out for booking it.>Me: You're not being chewed out Tyler, I'm sorry if that's how it came across>Him: Okay, that is sort of how it came across [...] Personally, I'm a little frustrated I have to be people's secretary or coordinator and it felt like I'm getting attacked for just coordinating calendarsThis guy is off his meds or something

>>107116226True, I will admit it was more of let's get this working and then think of governance later. "oh we got it working" and our boss went like alright just throw it into prod if it works. Bit of a con being technical workers working under the business department. Nobody seems to know exactly how tech works here which sucks since we're just doing silo'd work and I'm just learning there's now proper procedures for these things.
>>107116320i make more money now than when i was in my early 20s, i make the average of 65k. Car maintenance has fucked me over. A job called me which pays 80k, I think that would work best, but I have no hoped. I got a splunk cert, and going for AWS, but not sure. Life has been too depressing. Since my balance has only gone down, I can expect to soon reach $0 and not go above 10k anymore
>>107116389not him but quiet luxury. when everything is sucking and you don't have long term goals anymore, a splurge once in a while feels nice. btw im not in this guy's position. I'm slowly saving up but I have a cousin who makes 1.5x my income at like 120k and STILL lives paycheck to paycheck because he keeps falling for "get rich scheme of the week"
>>107116411>who makes 1.5x my income at like 120k and STILL lives paycheck to paycheckI can't believe I need to listen to Americans call us Europeans poor when their bank accounts are fucking empty.
>>107116424i hate both americans and europeans. we're all retarded for different reasons. >t. leafland
>>107116424Euros are poor cause they get taxed 70% of their income. Americans are poor because they spend 80k on stupid shit that they lose.
>>107113491I have a perpetual 12-1 meeting on teams with myself. So anyone who tries to schedule a meeting at lunchtime with me, will see I am unavailable.
>>107116424Americans have become incredibly skilled at extracting money from other americans
>>107116280I have unlimited PTO but I've been taking a lot this quarter already so I feel bad taking more. Also there's a time sensitive issue with code that I own and I felt bad watching my coworkers scramble to understand it while I do nothing. But also I'm not being very helpful anyways today so maybe more rest would have been the move
>>107116142i dont like stockpiling because it just gives me an excuse to drink more than i normally do
>>107116451>I have unlimited PTONo you don't
>>107112774Previously I managed to get 1/2/3/4. But that was before I found a steady relationship. Gains goblins are real. Now I can barely .5/1/1.5/2. But I'm bigger and stronger than before. Sex is greatest workout and I won't hear otherwise.
>>107116534NTA, I was at a company that did, but the pay was not competitive. I left in less than a year because the director manager fella was not going to give me a raise. Just a hunch based on how he danced around it every time
>>107116411>>107116424a lot of people living paycheck to paycheck seem to be in that situation because they have bought a bunch of shit on debt>"i'm living paycheck to paycheck. what am i doing wrong? btw i spend 1k a month on my car loan"yeah dumbfuck it means you couldn't actually afford the car you bought 2 years ago but you bought it anyway. how did americans get psyopped into paying $80k+ on a car anyway.
>>107116451have you always had mental issues or is this new? you are not doing yourself or your boss a favor by doing things this way.IMO you need to talk to a psychiatrist. in my country I could get a medical leave with that. but considering that american workers are slaves, I guess you are totally fucked...
>>107116451Define a lot
>>107112872>>107113115I remember when everyone used to laugh at Bachelors for being tryhardsNow every cunt has one and most jobs want a Masters10+ years experience but not even a degree? In the bin you go
>>107116562>I was at a company that didUnlimited PTO is just a ploy to get people to use less PTO. If you give them 30 days, they feel obliged to use all 30. If you give them unlimited, you get them to use less.
>>107116233kek good ladhopefully you still get out to be around people? the gym and grocery shopping are my only outlets to " interacts "
>>107116650me IRL
>>107116643Another thing is in some places if you leave a job and haven't used all your pro-rata leave they have to pay you it.Unlimited they don't, or its a lot less
>>107116650me but countries. I've worked in 4 by now
>>107116562>NTA, I was at a company that didNo you weren't lmao. Try taking 50 or even 60 days off at a company that has "unlimited PTO", see how they react kek.
>>107116777I believe /utwg/ is that way, you unemployable Neetger
>>107116806>waaaah I can't handle the truthFuck off, projecting retard. I have 30 days PTO and if I don't take them, management actually becomes concerned kek. Much more comfy than any "unlimited" PTO scams.
>>107116648>hopefully you still get out to be around people?Lol nope WFH and I can go months without talking to another person if I dont make a active effort. Theoretically its probably bad for my mental health but I dont feel it.
>>107116823>>waaahStopped reading there but thanks for confirming you are a worthless NEET
pto doesnt exist. wfh doesnt exist. you dont get free lunch. its all a conspiracy and the entirety of twg is in on it
>>107114723>weak spineless nerds become weak spineless engineering managerswho would have guessed
>>107116411>a splurge once in a while feels nice. The issue is that it's not once in a while, it's multiple things, every day.
>>107117016>you dont get free lunchThis is correct for sure, PTO is priced in your salary, I have seen more positions with high salary without PTO than with.
I wish I could be a piece of shit, not care about anything, and delegate my problems to others in blissful ignorance.

>>107117016WFH is a mutually beneficial arrangement. Company saves money and the workers get improved quality of life.
when does it end
How did you do at your first job/internship? I went to a good uni but I'm worried I'm gonna be out of my depth for a long time and might not have a lot of job security
>>107117330mood
>>107117073yeah....

Today for lunch at the Microsoft cafeteria I decided to try the "chicken katsu burger". It was... fine. Not quite what I expected though. I won't be getting it again.
>>107116399you're still not explaining why youre losing money, just moping like a hippy.I make 75k in leafland where taxes are 25% and have achieved 150k and I'm not even 30 yet. That is living alone from age 21 too.Poor people aren't even trying, are they?

>>107117501>Poor people aren't even trying, are they? They have really bad parents, that's all. It's the only reason why they are poor, no one can disprove this.
my company is doing a holiday partyi probably won't go, but it's nice of them i guess
>>1071166505 Cities later and it makes no difference. I hear it's not different from the country hoppers.
>>107117643Mine's doing one too but I work the graveyard shift so LOL
>>107117358>First internshipI got handheld all the way to my full time offer>First jobNo one handheld me and everything was remote so I just sat there and tried my best. Later on, I learned just giving up my pride and asking questions was how this job operates best
>week 3 at meta>teammates have dropped the fake friendliness>actively backstabbing me by telling me the task is easy and straightforward then commenting the diff with enormous refactor requests
>work on project that my boss says is the executive's "baby" and will easily generate him the most money>im the only one working on the backend, have 3 others doing frontend and the occasional quick backend bug fix>boss praises everyone else, says how thankful he is for people staying late>they normally leave at 5:30>ive been working til 7:30 for the last 2 months>doesnt ever come up to me out of the blue to say thanksI mean, he did say that we "need to do reviews soon so we can get you a raise and get you married to your girl" but like, I want praise too. >>107118835bench shooting
>>107118835>I need to feel something.Try hot chili peppers.
>>107118835Funny you say that, my new vice as of a couple weeks ago is spending hundreds in gachas for no reason on top of alcohol and weed, because that isn't cutting it for me
>>107118740>Hopefully I can negotiate something nice in a monthNo, do it now.
>finally got a job>it's in office (highly secure standalone networking, please understand)>everyone roasts me for working in office>even the unemployedwhy are you'll like this
>>107118929It's a cucked situation, you're leaving the comfort of your home to sit at a desk in an office do a job that clearly could have been done without all that hassle. It certainly beats being unemployed but that's about it.
>>107119001>highly secure standalone networking, please understand
>>107119004I like how Tailscale massive popularity is making that "argument" severly outdated, but fucking boomers are still grasping at straws even though covid proved that remote worker is completely viable. The only ones losing with remote work are the boomers with their real estate especulation.
>>107119050>Tailscale OwO !!
>>107119050it's literally a classified network mate
>>107118924The project I’m working on launches in a little less than a month so I think I’ll ask then. My boss has been really busy with hiring and I’ve been very communicative about the status of the project but ik if I talk about a raise and use my work on this project as leverage, there won’t be a whole lot to show for it yet
goodnight /twg/
>>107113856>hr roasties only let retarded jeets through the screening>engineering managers whine about a competency crisisliterally go to any CS department at a uni and offer the job to the class you'll get dozens of qualified candidates who can't get a job. let them work for 3 years and you'll have your seniorsthis used to be blindingly obvious but corporations have forgotten how to hire people ffs

>>107119547My helpdesk gets these people but they can't get a job as a programmer despite having good internships(free labour) and projects. Their flight risk doesn't matter since they get value of them in 3 months time.
How do I cope with losing my job?
>>107119576alcohol
>>107119596I dont like drugs & alcohol. What else is there?
>>107119606window shopping at hardware stores for tools you only barely know how to use so you can fantasize about being a DIY chad
>>107119621Oddly specific. But it sounds like fun, thanks!
>>107119621I do DIY for my car and house. Anon tool shopping is fun until you got to buy hardware/parts then it sucks.
>>107119630princessauto.ca is unironically one of my favorite sites on the internethttps://www.princessauto.com/en/surplus/category/200-000-000-000ive never actually bought anything but who doesnt want a big box of random weird chinky tools? a man has to have dreams
>>107119707honestly every time i check im like "yeah i could use 7000 zip ties and a 60ft threaded rod for 5 bux total (79.99 S&H)" but the thought of paying a whole twelve dollars for a drill makes me nauseous
>>107119724>12$ for a drillAnon i buy the cheap Harbor Freight Bauer drill $40 and that is more expensive than whatever crap you were going to buy. Drill bits are equally as worse since those burn out. But the batteries is the real pain in the ass for these tools.
>>107116226>Your boss signed off on it, the liability is on him.So what? Anon will still be the one fixing up the fuckup and having to go "above and beyond" to meet whatever deadline has been set by management. It's literally not the boss's problem.

>>107117489Should have gotten the pork bao, it was quite swell
>>107119768i was being hyperbolic and further joking by >implying the "drill" was one of these dumb electric screwdriver shits (which I did once impulse buy for like 4$ at a thrift shop and have never used once because it didnt come with a power supply and ended up needing some weird voltage i did not care to nigger rig)mostly when i do my window shopping it's either consumables or stuff i genuinely dont need or have space for or both like bench vises and press brakes and shit. though when you said "hardware/parts" i thought oyu meant like big boxes of screws or trying to get replacement non-consumable parts from manufacturers
>>107119775die mothafucka dieORAORAORAORAORAORAORA
>>107119857Yes i meant consumables for parts/hardware. Buying shit like spark plugs, screws, oil/filter, door hinges, paint ect. That is what really sucks about tool shopping since you are buying it for a reason.
