My VR broke in 2023 or 2024; I don't quite remember. I haven't been very active in the VR community since then, but it seems like VR is dying. I wouldn't say it's fully dead but it's not how it used to be.At first it was all cool and amazing, but now it's kind of boring and stale. Even before my VR broke, I could feel it nearing that point of “Wow, this is pretty ass.” Maybe it's the games? Perhaps it's the VR headset itself? I'm not sure. Does anybody know what caused some decline in the VR space?
>>107122034Zuckerberg.
It's too much hassle. I just got my first headset. There are some great games, and I'm enjoying the novelty of it. However, it's more effort to set up and after 30 minutes I need a break. In a couple months I'll probably be done with it and sell the thing or box it up in a closet.
>>107122034No free trial like on Steam. You have to gamble $100 on whether the game's going to be ass or not which is kind of insane if you sit down and think about it.Ive bought quest games but im kind of retarded.
>>107122034never played it but I will guess the circlejerks ruined it
>>107122034>what caused some decline in the VR space?literally no company can afford to lose money in this economy on VR experiments, we only have flat to VR mods to play
>>107122034Zuck bet the farm on Horizon being the next Facebook, killing Oculus in the process. The hardware is great, passthrough was good enough to make a laughing stock out of the AVP and stuff like hand tracking and IOBT is excellent. But it's all stuck behind garbage software that doesn't want you to leave the Horizon ecosystem.HTC lost their partnership with Valve, and now HTC make wholly mediocre headsets while Valve are dragging their heels releasing a follow up to the excellent but dated Index.Games were ticking along fine at one point, but again Zuck fucked it all up. He bought every VR dev, told them to cancel their projects, and proceeded to fuck all with them.
Imagine a world without the Zuck

>>107124741>killing Oculus in the processI still often use my Quest3 and everytime I'm thinking how much potential they're squandering with that dogshit software.Literally 3 snapped windows with a fucking macOS style dock, are you fucking serious? This is the future of computing?Experiment holy fucking shit, there are 3 daily active users you'll anger with constant changes at most, who gives a shit.
I just use it for watching porn on bigscreen. Someone needs to make an open source competitor to bigscreen.
>>107122034It's never dying, it's so much worse than that
>>107124741Zuck took the ball and fumbled it. But I think its weird his reputation is so much worse than valve's despite the fact that he actually funded games, even if they were made exclusive and trapped in shit mobile phone specs in the process. Valve didn't make anything after alyx and gabe said they were working on 3 games. They didn't outsource or pay for the development of any PCVR games either.
The novelty wore off quick for a lot of owners and games can feel like a chore to play. I use mine for JAV and TD games but nothing else outside that.
>>107125333D'aww isn't he precious
>>107122034When using a headset is better than looking at a 4k monitor, VR will skyrocket.
>>107122034The set up is a pain, the FoV is always ass, the standalones are just too weak to be worth using standalone, and the controls are basically just wagglan 2.0 and not actually that exciting.Faggot shit in VRChat and racing/flight sims might just be the only real use cases for it (entertainment-wise), otherwise it's not necessarily more fun than flatscreen games and just takes more effort. Well maybe Beat Saber is cool if your only alternative is standard peripheral rhythm games with no access to bemani and the like.
>>107122034VR never took off. It has always been a fringe thing. I got a PSVR2 last year and think it’s nice for the $349 or so I paid for it when it works on PC like it is supposed to. It’s not a paradigm shift though.>>107122625This. It’s a pita to setup and SteamVR shits the bed sometimes.>>107125976I demoed Apple Vision Pro and one of the biggest Apple shills on this board. It didn’t move the needle and neither will 4K. VR has a massive software problem.>>107126390There’s something about bouncing on massive mammories in Uncle Koopa’s map that makes VR feel a little alive.
>>107122034>boringHonestly, retardation can't be cured, but we tried.
>>107122034HURRY UP WITH THE FUCKING DECKARD
>>107122034The only good AAA story game released for VR is HL Alyx, everything else are just sims, normie slop or social games.Vr chat had potential and i lowk enjoyed it until the fags, furrys and kids started playing it. So much miss potential man, maybe ill get some PCVR headset in the future but i dont see much reason to do so for now.
