Pulse and Prime are fine options.
The Pulse's stock fan curve is set too low; that's why the memory chips run hot.
The memory chip temps are fine if you set a custom fan curve for the Pulse.
If you don't like the Prime's higher fan speed, you can switch to the quiet BIOS mode.

Raster barely matters anymore and it has barely matter since 2022 when DIrect X12 ultimate ready titles released, but amdrones are not ready for that conversation yet. motion vectors, bilinear filtering and velocity buffer all have been king from the 2022 when the first games using them came out but retards in youtube are way too addicted to barcharts rather than actually discussing image quality and rendering.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qDnXe6N8h_c

GamerNexus goes a little bit around it but doesn't touch the fact that benching games that hit production years ago is dumb and most of the new tech is build around the new Direct X12 bullshit comes out in a few months and is supposed to support "neural rendering" which is a buzzword to shill AI using all these advancements in the rendering pipeline with the focus on moving away further from raster and shaders units per parallel proccesing,

I need some sanity checking help. I've got a Z690-A Pro DDR4 motherboard and a 13600K. According to the specs at us.msi.com/Motherboard/PRO-Z690-A-DDR4/Specification it can hold up to 128gb of RAM. Currently it has 32gb of RAM in it (2x16) in 2 slots. I was going to try and grab 32gb more (another 2x16) to bring the total up to 64. However, according to the memory specs at /us.msi.com/Motherboard/PRO-Z690-A-DDR4/support#mem (pic related), it looks like I can only use 2 dimm slots?

Am I reading this correctly? That if I use this particular model of RAM I can only use 2 slots instead of 4? The motherboard has 4 slots, and 2 are presently empty. Any clarification would be appreciated.
>>
Holy ram prices when is it going to stop
>>
>>107124704
Only if you overclock it.
Rule of thumb, maximum of two RAM sticks to overclock. Any more than that and you need to run at base speed to make it work.
If you want more memory but also want the speed you need 2x32GB RAM sticks to overclock 64GB of RAM.

Thanks for the answers, anons. I'll check if I can snag a 5060 Ti during the incoming holiday sales.
>try to look for one with good memory temperatures though, some models cheapen out and do not have thermalds pad on the back
How could I check that? Look up images/videos of the different brand models? Are the pads usually visible, or should I look for images of the disassembled card? Or is there something I can check on the box or on the product page of the store?
>look into the 5070 TI super with 24gb vram
I wouldn't mind it, but I think that's going a bit too hard for my current level of fucking around with AI. The 5070 Ti is already ~1000€ (picrel, and even the used ones aren't that much cheaper), so I assume that the Super will be even more expensive. Maybe if I get lucky enough to make some extra money on the side with this, I'll look into higher end stuff kek

>>
>>107124704
4x16 will work at high speeds on that board
MSI has good DDR4 support on Z690/Z790
but it depends if your kits are single rank or dual rank, 4 dual rank sticks would be a quad rank setup and that's questionable

do you know if your sticks are version 3.31 (like in the screenshot) or are you just looking at the model number?

>>
>>107124890
>How could I check that?
Review sites and videos, good reviews usually have a section in which they show the disassembled card both metal blackplates and thermal pads in the back are usually fatures to look out but dont over pay too much for it unless you live in an hot or humid place
and cant afford AC, i would avoid zotac lower end models unless they are significantly cheaper than everyone else on your country
>>
>>107125004
The sticks I currently have in my machine say ver 3.34 on the sticks. Their model is CMK32GX4M2D3600C 18. The RAM I was scoping out is the exact same model, but I don't know what version it says on the sticks. This model is dual sided. For my application, speed is actually not as important as raw RAM capacity and stability. But you're saying having 4 dual-sided sticks of RAM is a bad idea?
>>

9800X3D on some solid but cheap mobo with the bare necessities. Air cool it with one of them chinese coolers.
>>
>>107124890
>How could I check that?
GamersNexus does temperature measurements for cards they review, and they sometimes include cards of the same type but different manufacturers. But if you just google "5060 Ti thermal comparisons" you should land on some sites with charts that go compare the different versions to show you what the coolest one is, and what the quietest one is.
>>
>>107125165
>The RAM I was scoping out is the exact same model, but I don't know what version it says on the sticks
no way to predict that, corsair will give you anything as long as it meets their minimum requirements
the official model numbers don't mean anything with RAM
>But you're saying having 4 dual-sided sticks of RAM is a bad idea?
yes, and ver 3.34 seems to be 8gbit micron rev E, so you already have 2 dual-sided sticks
of course it will still work if you go down to base speed, but that's really bad for a 13600K
might still be fine for your applications though

I'm mostly getting it for some Houdini work. According to various sources I've looked at, RAM speed doesn't seem to impact simulation calculation times as much as RAM "capacity" does. And stability, obviously. So I don't mind the slower clock speed as long as it doesn't crash in the middle of a 10-hour simulation.

any configuration you throw together will work if you stick to low speeds
get a new kit and put it in slots A1/A2, put the old kit in slots B1/B2
this makes the memory controller train them separately, so you can mix and match as much as needed
>According to various sources I've looked at, RAM speed doesn't seem to impact simulation calculation times as much as RAM "capacity" does
you're probably right, but keep in mind that raptor lake is the last desktop architecture with DDR4 support
the cores are substantially more powerful than earlier intel architectures
meaning they need more bytes/sec from RAM to sustain high IPC
meaning they're affected more by RAM speed than some old quad core
