>older than microsoft>older than apple>still the trademark of every skilled developer>replaces the entire OS with better tools>can be extended and customized to its very core>doesn't even need a GUII'm not even aware of any other software with a track record like this. How does EMACS do it?
>>107123092EMAC
>>107123092at least it makes google seethe
>doesn't even need a GUIEnjoy your shitty software dying out because you are desperate to gatekeep it from normal people. I don't mind using a terminal when it's faster like that but it's objectively inferior for programs. Just phase it out.
>>107123092> replaces the entire OS with better toolsIt’s practically the modern embodiment of a lisp machine. One day we will get lisp accelerator cards from tom knight that will surpass GPU and AI capabilities.Lisp was an early language used when AI was real, which is now called symbolic AI.
>>107123092lol, it does the same for VIM
>>107123092>>older than microsoft> Founded in 1975>The first operational EMACS system existed in late 1976
>>107123812Microsoft is dropping vbscript.Since the company was founded on their release of basic on the Altair, vbscript going defunct is symbolic of a company that is “microsoft” in name only. He’s dead, jim.
>>107123767emacs has GUI, it also works in terminal
>>107123767Most people who use Emacs use it with the GTK GUI, I doubt that's the reason why Emacs will die out.
>>107123092it just werks
I just set up Emacs. I moved from NeoVim to Emacs.
>>107123092Emacs is fucking shit. I've been using it to do some stuff in common lisp and it's hands down the worst editor I've used. If you turn on an lsp and sytax highlighting it takes 2-3 seconds for auto-complete to work and if you scroll up in your source code it can take 10s+ for the theme to be applied to the new section of the code. Emacs is old, shit and a relic of the past. Neovim and even fucking vscode are miles better in every single conceivable way, unless you're playing the game of what's the worst editor which emacs is the king of hands down.
>>107124222>themeLike text color? You're not using a background, are you?
>>107124260Yes like text color.
>>107124222>lsp is slow as shitswitch to eglot
>>107124294I've had vim tweak a bit when left running for several days with like 4 splits open, but never experienced anything like that. Are you running on a potato? I actually am, and I've never had those issues. Maybe I made the right choice.
>>107124460Not a great system but a 10600k, 16gb ram, 1tb nvme, rtx 3070 - linux mint.
>>107124222>if you scroll up in your source code it can take 10s+ for the theme to be applied to the new section of the codeWhat mode is this happening in?
>>107124510Yeah, I'm running a celeron with 2gb of ram, 64Gig ssd in a 12 year old dell, and vim is smooth as silk with a bloat lsp and full syntax highlighting.I doubt vsc would even be useless on my toaster. Youtube barely even loads. Vim was definitely the right choice.
>>107123092That logo on the right looks terrible holy shit
>>107123767emacs does have a GUI though, it can do both
