Now that Microsoft is slowly but surely locking down their platform with forced online account, an update (((accidentally))) resetting bitlocker key if not saved to the cloud, that weird ssd trashing in japan after an update, telemetry not removable anymore,
NTFS always writing to my precious SSD, and terrible memory footprint, like what the actual fuck ?...

Been using linux for servers for over 14 years now professionally
8 years as daily driver using debian + KDE which resulted in a better desktop experience than windows or macos from the functionality standpoint.

... but ...

My picrel is the reason I switched back to windows a year ago, but holy fuck is the UI sluggish compared to the kde desktop I was used to for years, even if debloated, it is unbarable.

It's not like the free and open source is the solution for all our problems. FOSS definitely has a gigantic management problem making man in the middle attacks a walk in the park without a streamlined DevOps pipeline.

We definitely need desktop level security for Linux. As in on-demand file system access control on-demand firewall services with notifications and interactive validators.
Stuff like this was implemented in Windows since version 7 (best windows btw)
Linux still lacks this very basic functionality resulting in many, many machines potentially compromised by the very nature of the bazaar development model propagated throughout the FOSS community.

Foss has a problem with Mitm attacks certainly.
Microsoft's pipeline is far more resistant to MITM obviously but their pipeline is also full of shit

Is there even an example of a truly successful desktop Linux hack?
The recent crypto extractor snuck into NPM only netted the guy like $50.

This + some android-like package system where packages aren't all glued together, causing one update to fuck the rest of the installed programs, plus they can be installed offline, with backward/forward comaptibility

Windows 11 Pro is brilliant. I'm v experienced with Linux I didn't even dual boot or stupid shit, I just used Linux. I wanted to try Windows though. I'm finding it really good... My last experience with it sucked (was that 10? Not sure).

What I see is that Home edition is ad supported so maybe that is part of why. I had home on the last Windows I tried.

assume everything is backdoor-ed. and then use it anyway.
