Normies be like: >wtf is this???Me:>This is my own Netflix. Actually, I'm kidding, it's much better than Netflix. It has everything I will ever want and more. Nothing will ever get removed from it. This is what you'll never have.Anyway, Jellyfin Thread.
>>107130931Why are you so antisemitic?
>>107130931SMB server can do literally same thing but without bullshit
I never understood making media serversI always just carry the mp4s and mkvs local on pendrive or SD card
>>107131022Actually this. What is the usecase for Jellyfin if you have no mobile devices? And why SMB? Kodi/linux can sshfs, anything else can nfs?
>>107131250Three things make that impractical:- having family members and/or partners who want to watch something else at the same time or at a time when you're not available- having a collection that's larger than a couple of TB- wanting to watch on end devices that don't have a USB port, like a FireTV stickAnyway, do what works for you, but don't complain when your collection goes bust because you don't have backups or redundancy
>>107131291I forgot to mention that I have three 4TB drives which are exact copies of each other and on USB or SD I only copy what I currently am seeking to watch. The drives stay shelved most of the time and I connect them through USB whenever needed.
>>107130931>I'm a trans coder so I absolutely have to transcode my media.
>>107131308I did say "impractical", not "impossible" though.Even when you're ok with having to manage data redundancy yourself, this still leaves point #3, wanting to watch on devices without a USB port (but with network streaming). But if you live alone and only watch on devices that have a port, you're good, I guess
If I want to stream videos from linux to a tv that already has a firetv stick but no attached pc, then is there any alternative to jellyfin? I can install the jellyfin app on firetv and it works, but I don't see how simpler options like filesystem access (smb, sshfs, nfs) can be realised on a firetv. Is jellyfin in this case the best option or are there other ways?picrel is OP btw>we don't you have jellyfin, like I do in GERMANY?
If you run jellyfin on a setup with a dedicated GPU and/or sound card, do you get better quality streaming? i stream from a shitty laptop and i get white noise over the music when i'm streaming
>>107131365Kodi.You do need to set up your media library correctly for this to work well, tho.
>>107131261If this was a Plex thread I would agree with you, but I mean it's just a tiny database that runs in a docker container for your non techy friends to use when they come over. What do you lose by having one running?
>>107131018All decent people are
>>107130931wth is this? You can watch any movie online from your TV in 4K HDR for free.
>>107131367you shouldnt use an audio card, just passthrough your audio to avr with no changes.
I used to use "Smart" subtitles but ever since 10.11 half of the default sub tracks show up as Undefined language, so I switched to "Default" and have to keep toggling them off at the beginning of anything EN. Anyone know a fix?
>>107131994watch everything with subtitles, why would you not
i just use stremio and real debrid
>>107131261Kodi supports nfs, however I am a filthy secondary and couldn't get it to work so I stuck with smb
>>107130931Based, same.>>107131018I've seen one before
