Do you still use tiling window manager after age 30?Use case?
I forgot, what % of transgender people make it to 30?
I use gnome with a tiling extension. It's good enough
>>107131535damn thats some good rice for 2012
>>107131535The level of stupidity of an average /g/ poster is simply astonishing
>>107131707Tiling managers are for autists who get filtered by having to manage windowsThere are actual use cases like if your job requires you monitor several streams of data but the no-use cases outnumber the use cases 20:1
>>107131810>Tiling managers are for autists who get filtered by having to manage windowsi manage windows, lots of them, and faster than you. cope lil girl with ur fancy buttons
>>107131816_You_ don't manage anything, what's why it's called a tiling window manager.
>>107131829i am the tiler king
>>107131829Agreed anon, I don’t use tiling OR stacking window managers. Whenever I want to open a window, I always manually tell x11 the size and coordinates of the window I want opened. When I want to switch to a different window, I tell x11 to bring change the order of the windows so that one can be brought to the front. That’s what you do right? You manage your windows yourself and don’t use a stacking window MANAGER like a pleb do you, anon?
>>107131893The difference is the same as between drawing something yourself and asking the AI to do it for you.
>>107131922>The difference is the same as between drawing something yourself and asking the AI to do it for you. What?
>>107131959If you are dumb enough to need tiling window managers you probably won't get it anyway if I tried to explain
>>107132024>if I tried to explainjust get AI to help
Window management has been solved around 2002 by Dana Jansens. Everything else, from Gnome to Ratpoison, is just hobby projects

>>107131816A terminal viewport is not a "window". The purpose of windows is to float and overlap and graphical user interfaces exist for a reason (as do terminal emulators). If you say that one is "superior" to the other, you haven't understood a thing yet. Well, you do have to cross mount stupid and the valley of despair before you can start climbing the slope of enlightenment.
>>107131535Yes, it's just a better setup to work.
>>107132370You know you can have two floating windows next to each other right?
>>107131535used a non tiling system for 30 years, changed to tiling recently, feels good not wasting time moving windows. when booting i need to open about 16 'windows', with a script this is all automated and sized exactly how i want across monitors and workspaces.not sure what the usecase would be for a non tiling system, unless you enjoy using your pointer input device to drag windows across.
>>107131535>Use case? For having fun and enjoying the aesthetic.
>>107132434Why didn't you just script the window management while still using the non tiling system?
>>107131535>get new computer, install KDE>have to hunt down all the settings I want changed in various menus>get annoying popups for stuff like kwallet>get annoying popups for weird keyboard issuesI'm just tired of it. I use DWL because it doesn't have annoying features and the entire configuration can be tracked with git. The fact that window management is way more convenient is secondary.
>>107131535YesProgrammingOne workspace running a fullscreen editor, one with terminals for building/running the code, one with a browser for docs. I can send any workspace to any monitor with a couple of keypresses (and it does something sensible even if the monitors are different sizes). For example, I can put the docs on the big screen to read something complicated, then send it to the smaller laptop screen to use as an occasional reference and pull up the editor on the big screen.
