A thread dedicated to Windows XP.>Why?Its very lightweight operating system that can be run just fine on potato hardware, including the one from late 90s/early 2000s. Its also Windows, so you have a decent software compatibility and offlline setup that can be re-created very easily. Its also one of the last unkiked Windows versions that does not force you into any ecosystem and is still better than linux in many ways.>Will I get hacked? No, you will not. Hackers cannot reach your computer through NAT unless you allow them to do so. This is a lie, often repeated by linux trannies and baby duck schizo. You can safely ignore their mumbling.>What about software compatibility?A fair share of software thats actually worth your time works natively. Many programs have been back-ported to XP and projects like one core api allow you to run new programs on it.Links and resources below (WIP):Easy to install modern web browser compatible with XP (requires SSE2)https://supermium.neocities.org/skipster1337 software listhttps://skipster1337.github.io/posts/windows-software.htmlone core apihttps://github.com/shorthorn-project/One-Core-API-Binariessoftware for computers without SSE2https://matejhorvat.si/en/unfiled/nosse2.htmsome XP compatible back ports of common programshttps://eclipse.cx/projects
>>107132471I used this until 2019. Good stuff.
XP bloats up incredibly fast and your installation becomes unusable pretty quick if you aren't careful, this is the case with all windows versions but it was BAD in xp and only made better in 7XP is worse than 7 in all respects
>>107132471You should list Newmoon and Kmeleon in the Op for non-SSE2 processors. Also, here's a fork of yt-dlp for XP https://github.com/nicolaasjan/yt-dlp
>>107132654XP's start menu is better.
>>107132698There's also an extension called Vorapis, which is useful for making Youtube's desktop site tolerable on older processors that can't handle its normal amount of javascript.
Is the old windows shilling genuine or just chinks/russians trying to get as many people as possible onto vulnerable OSes?
>>107132761I like using old windows versions because I just like old tech, but I think op might be a schizo. They tend to have obsessions like that and try to do stuff like forcing a general for a topic only three or four people on a board care about.
>>107132654I really appreciate 7, but it was that windows version when they gradually started introducing various anti-features, like the requirement for driver signing. It was also slightly heavier, and its activation algorithm was not cracked yet. Not saying that 7 is bad obviously, but I prefer XP, thats why I made a thread for it.>>107132698thanks, will try doing so in the next thread.>>107132761>>107132817Again, you will not get hacked by the mere fact of using old windows. You would have to directly expose it to the internet or purposefully download malware. Neither will happen as long as you are not retarded. The whole chinese/russian botnet is mostly linux tranny fear mongering tactic to bully people into (((transitioning))) to troonix. Old Windows are pretty much the best of both world. You have freedom, you have convenient software and you don't have to chop your dick off.
>>107132909>you will not get hacked by the mere fact of using old windowsI know. I use old Windows versions every day. I'm saying you're acting like a schizo by making daily threads and trying to force a general for a topic that never reaches bump limit.
>>107132471which version should I use and where should I download the ISO from? I don't really need anything other than a browser, 7zip, a bittorrent client and vidya emulators
>>107132471t.
>>107132988Use XP Pro SP3 and the cracked phone activator (called XPactivate32), you can either slipstream all the updates into the iso, or use Legacy Update to install all the security updates. Best place to get ISOs (and most software) is archive.org.
>>107132707You can get that in any Windows version with OpenShell.
>>107133069The shitty start menu is still there under it, and ti consumes extra resources
>>107132992shut up loonix troonies>>107132471good stuff
>>107132945Thats literally the first thread about XP I made. I am not responsible for other anons actions.>>107132988Avoid 64bit release, as its really unstable. Go for SP3 Pro and you will be fine. There is also OpenXP project if you like tinkering which I forgot to mention.https://theopenxp.org/The anon >>107133023 pretty much nailed it if you want a hassle-free setup.>>107133069Those nuwindows releases decorated as old ones are kinda like trannies. They try really hard to be something that they will never be, but they will always trigger your uncanny valley since something will obviously be off.
>>107133778Don't respond to him. He wants you to do so, so this thread gets derailed.
