Studios stopped asset re-use. Every prop has it's own unique textures.
You can blame Epic as they first popularized this workflow in UE. It saves development time at the cost of storage, memory and performance so AAA studios follow the lead.

Most likely most of it is uncompressed 32bit float 96khz WAV audio in a dozen languages.
>>
>>107133562
this
same way you install a 5MB package on Linux, and you get 80MB of localization garbage in 70 different languages.
>>
For the installed size, I'm guessing its massive textures for everything intended to be played at 4K etc, multilanguage audio redundancies etc...set in what is supposed to be the largest and densest city/region to date. Now it could also be some amount of online creator/modding tools; I'm to understand there was a lot of GTAO modding there for PC and maybe they're bundling some of the tools this time?

However none of that matters really. They can go right to hell if it doesn't release on day 1 now with PC support. If they're taking the time to at least do it properly okay but between the shitfuck death of the Xbox and the PS5 being meh they have to know that waiting another two fucking years post launch to get the platform that is the most popular and has the most interested and long lasting player base isn't going to help. Then again they were stupid enough to shoot RDR2's Red Dead Online in the dick and not offer it the kind of new content it should have gotten, all because it didn';t make them GTAO infinity+1 money thanks to shark cards on day fucking one, so their greed and stupidity can make for any kind of idiocy. Guess we'll see

That may have been the case in the era of vastly specialized and much more limited hardware, but considering that the past 2.5 generations or so and definitely all current ones use COTS PC hardware just crammed into proprietary platforms, so that's not really an issue anymore. Not to mention that Rockstar is a huge dev with an even larger publisher backing them so its not like they can't handle it. At absolute minimum they could shit out something with equivalent performance to a PS5 or PS5 Pro setting and the vast majority of gaming PCs would be able to run it. Going a bit farther to have native rendering and tech that's only on PCs etc...would be worth it and isn't particularly difficult anymore. I don't mind them taking a bit longer to provide a PC version with all the comprehensive options one expects and quality/features above and beyond console limitations, but its not like GTAVI hasn't been taking its sweet fucking time and is now delayed yet another year. If that was to launch on PC concurrently, I'd say that's fine.

Console exclusivity can die in a fucking fire and there's no excuse for it anymore except for corporate greed hoping people will double dip and that deserves to die in the aforementioned fire as well as not being realistic given only a tiny percentage of people will do so rather than just wait. Waiting also means less likelihood to pick the game up anywhere near full price - not that GTA needs it, they sell consistent online grinding shark card shit - since they already waited and aren't making decisions based on hype. Consoles platforms should be outmoded and left behind entirely, but until then given the overlap in hardware, the least that can be done is concurrent PC releases.
>>
>>107132907
because improving graphics is the lowest hanging fruit. improving gameplay however...

gta hasn't changed since gta3.

>>
>>107132907
I just checked pcpartpicker and a 2TB m.2 ssd is about $110 now, so you can easily get 4TB of fast storage for about $220. That game would take up 10% of your total storage space though so now that i think of it that is kind of a big deal.

Older GTA games' appeal, at least in my circle of friends, has always been "explore an MMO like sandbox without actually paying for an MMO or having an internet connection". After MMOs became free to play and sandbox games became more popular, I genuinely expected it to fail. I still don't understand how GTA V was such a success.

Back in GTA III, Vice City and San Andreas days, sandbox games were in low supply but in high demand. Also it was expensive as fuck to make a good sandbox game. Compared to an MMO it was also harder, cause you actually had to have story and characters to make up for the lack of other real people. MMOs had it on easy mode somewhat cause they only had to provide the sandbox whilst the entertainment came from the players interactions.

GTA's whole selling point was: pay the equivalent of a 3 month subscription but have fun for months or years. The only reason I can think that GTA is still appealing is that modern MMOs are shit.
>>
>>107134297
>I still don't understand how GTA V was such a success.
because gta online is basically an mmo of its own breed and there isn't anything else like it
>>
>>107133562
Don't forget the several hours of 4K 10bit HDR cutscenes with Dolby Atmos audio.
>>
>>107134223
Okay so that's $100 for the game, $110 for a m.2 SSD to install it on, and $800 for a new motherboard/CPU/RAM because my current one doesn't have any free m.2 slots.

Oh wait, RAM prices are going insane, make that $1200.

>Console exclusivity can die in a fucking fire and there's no excuse for it anymore except
It's funny because every single time Microsoft decides the line between Xbox and PC is truly arbitrary, they get clowned on.

when you tech retards (not necessarily you) make these calculations, do you ever stop and ask: "what else can I buy with this amount of money?"
I'm genuinely curios, cause $1200 will literally buy you a set of high quality power tools that will serve you a lifetime and will probably help you save tens of thousands of dollars down the line by not paying other MEN to come into your home and emasculate you by doing the things that you were supposed to do as a man.

Do you all live in apartments in the city and your survival is dependent on the government infrastructure, so you just wait to perish like dogs if the water supply goes down for 3 days? Is that why you don't invest in your own survival and independence?

I don't want to be a disingenuous faggot and say I don't spend money on tech, but tech for the purpose of entertainment is literally on the bottom of the list for me.
>>
>>107134456
The money I saved from not paying some retard to do house and car work has more than paid for the PC.

When MS does smart things, like creating XInput and offering wide PC and cross platform support/drivers for the Xbox360 gamepad, they do well. People bought X360 controllers and headsets who never owned an Xbox. The problem is MS does stupid things and follows old trends too late, like the
>Everything gonna be mobile! Windows phone!
era, and a lot of their other shit like now with Copilot / AI . For gaming, they first launched their exclusives ONLY on Xbox and the Windows Store/Xbox App and they bombed; once they brought them to Steam (Halo MCC, Sea of Thieves etc) they thrived. However they keep fucking things up. Gamepass COULD have synced with Steam but no, they pushed Xbox app only and demanding that people buy DLC for games that they don't own on a platform they don't want to play them on. Its constant like this

If MS truly makes the next Xbox a prefab PC you can install anything on, even if its Windows instead of superior Linux based SteamOS alternatives, it would still be a step in the right direction. However I am anticipating them to fuck it up by say... not letting you play any of the Xbox stuff online if you installed stuff manually, for fear of piracy or cheaters or whatever the fuck (as opposed to how your SteamDeck can install launchers from other stores if you want or emulators and it doesn't inhibit your ability to use the BigPicture UI main Steam client etc). Likewise, they supposedly open sourced the next gen GameInput for gamepads (or at least opened the API specs?) and yet they haven't come up with a new generation of Xbox pads, especially an Elite S3, that has DualSense Edge like features including haptics, touchpad, and especially gyro/motion (which Xbox is the only one that doesn't so cross platform titles don't support it!). MS can't help bnut make mistakes needlessly.

Sony and Nintendo are just hopelessly old fashioned and love lockdown, but even Sony releases games on Steam - though it takes too long

For me at least it is because gaming is just a hobby & not really important that I sweat spending money on it, and am super careful getting maximum bang for my buck. Stuff you need to be a functional adult, like basic tools for ordinary household repairs I don't worry too much about spending money on, since those are a need and not a want. Plus, as you said, good tools usually only need to be purchased once, while hobbies often need on going purchases.

False. This is over-explaining without saying anything.
GTA combines shooting and driving.
Gran Turismo was amongst the best sellers on PS1/PS2.
MMOs are associated with socially isolated people like Second Life.
