Why not just download kindle in a normal phone. Are you really paying almost 100 dollars for just a slightly bigger screen?
its easier on the eyes
>>107134276They used to be easier on the eyes. Seems like the new ones are just tablets though, so I'm not upgrading.
it's nice to have a standalone device that just does one thing. Also the e-ink screen is way better
because they wanna be seen as a super smart person doing a smart person thing with a dedicated smart person device
i think a big screen is one of the main features you want on something to read books
>>107134276insane battery life, i had my old kindle stashed away for 6 months, still had 70% battery life, that said, if you're not the type of person who reads as much as he watches movies, it's mostly just gonna be sitting somewhere collecting dust, but since these things never break when you do want to actually start a book its nice to have one
>>107134276I don't read books on my phone because it's a lot less pleasant to read a phone than a kindle.Hell I'd rather have e-ink on my phone. Why do we need a literal screen on a phone?
>>107134276>be ignorant about something>perhaps I should:>ask googlenah>ask chatgpt or any LLM chatbotnah>make 4chan threadmmm maybe>make BAIT 4chan threadfuck yes
>>107134305Nice projection but my kindle never leaves the house, because I never leave the house
the size is better and i like the e-ink more than my phone screen.
>>107134276Why would someone make a thread about a cheap device that has obvious advantages over other devices that can do the same?
>>107134663Phones are PCs, not newspapers.
I need the big screen to read my mango.
>>107134276I have a really old kindle, is there now some better OS or something to jailbreak?
>>107135824I feel like they've done fuck all to improve the OS. or the e-ink. There's always such a long delay in changing pages.
>>107135824jailbreak and install koreader
>>107134276E-readers are fantastic on the eyes, extremely light on battery (one charge of my kobo can last weeks with daily usage) and overall just stylish and nice to use. You can make the fonts bigger if you have bad eyes too.It really does feel like reading a book but you're actually holding hundreds/thousands of books at once.Your explicit question about KINDLE e-readers is valid though, I don't know why anyone at all buys amazons locked down slop reader that can remove your books at any time when every other one lets you install custom firmware with great features and fully offline usage.>There are kindles that they sell cheap because they force you to watch ADVERTS while you read a fucking BOOKActual nightmare dystopia shit
>>107136791Kindles are cheaper and they don't force you to watch ads while reading books, the fuck? The ads only show when the device is in idle mode. Also there are many books that are only published on amazon so...I think a jailbroken kindle paperwhite with Koreader is the best e-reader you can have for least amount of money.
>>107134276Literally the one differentiating factor is the reason: e-ink
>>107137100An e-reader with koreader is the correct choice, but if I'm going to jailbreak it why buy an Amazon product when I can just buy a kobo e-reader that just lets me install the things without a jailbreak? Also putting any adverts into a literature device that you are expected to pay for is dystopian, they sell the hardware and the books no one should have adverts slapped on top.
>>107137385For me it's mainly because of kindle exclusive books. You can't buy from the amazon store on Kobo for example.Of course you can pirate many of them but many books are obscure and cannot be found anywhere else.Again the ads are non-intrusive, I literally never see them because the moment I turn on my kindle to use it they go away because they only show when it's idle in the lock screen.I understand not wanting to support the big evil corporation and not liking their practices but if you don't care about that they are just fine.
>>107134276No, you're paying for the eink screen.
>>107134289>>107134295It is definitely not easier on the eyes. Background is gray and the ink is dark-gray rather than a true black. Results in much worse contrast compared to physical books. The additional screen layers also reduce textual clarity.Overall, I find the experience to be poor. I find physical books far kinder on the eyes. I find reading on an e-reader analogous to using low-resolution screens. That being said, my eyesight isn't the greatest, even with glasses, so perhaps you find these issues more forgivable.Though maybe some anon could inspire some hope. The two e-readers I've used are the Paperwhite 3 and the Scribe. If you could spare me from commuting to the library, it would be appreciated.
>>107134276eink mogs oled for reading
>>107138036I don't like reading on my computer, but wouldn't the true blacks be more comfortable?
>>107138107I think with oled you have to deal with font rendering oddness and rgb vs b/w
>>107138107this is how your post looks like on an oled (samsung super AMOLED 1080 x 2340 pixels, 19.5:9 ratio (~403 ppi density) 6.4 inches, 100.5 cm2 of an A50)
>>107138107>>107138330this is how an actual book looks like
>>107138330>>107138337>>107138107and this is a kobo libra colorfeels much better to read on this and i can also use it as a notebook with the e-pen that comes with it
just go to the fucking library> but there are homelessthen you shouldnt be worrying about a kindle and move to a white neighborhood.
So what's a good ebook reader to get if not a kindle? A Kobo?
why read when you can just watch a review with your favorite booktube?
>>107138433omg is she back??????
I will buy this on my next pay if /g/ approves

>>107134276>Why not just download kindle in a normal phonewhy would you even do that? don't tell me you're actually paying for digital books?
>>107134304>it's nice to have a standalone device that just does one thingno, that's awful and it's just you consooouming
>>107134276>Are you really paying almost 100 dollars for just a slightly bigger screen?Don't have a kindle but i do have a kindle fire which is less than 100 bucks
phones are too small and you constantly get distracted by your friends/gf/mistress/business/crypto and other notifications.
>>107139224Swap intel with AMD
>>107138433who'mst've
>>107138007The old kindles were easier on the eyes than the kindle app on a phone.I definitely prefer physical books.
>>107134276My phone's screen is only 3". Kindle is/has/can:>Lighter than hardcovers (and most books in general w/o a case on)>Larger reading area than avg paperback>Tap+hold on words for instant dictionary>E-ink screenReally the only e-book specific advantages compared to using a phone/tablet. I was using a tablet then tried a Kindle and loved it. Got my ass to read consistently again (I try to read for 30 minutes in the morning before work)
>>107141427>Larger reading area than avg paperbackAre you talking about Kindle Scribe?
>>107136791>I don't know why anyone at all buys amazons locked down slop readerThe average normieshit likely doesn't know what a Kobo or Boox is. A Kindle is synonymous with digital reading to them at this point.
Because I previously bought a Kobo that stopped charging and died
>>107139224get an amd cpu/gpu instead
>>107142625I had the opposite experience. Kindle just randomly died, so then I bought a Kobo (mostly because it was super cheap). Still doing the needful like 10 years later.
>>107134276man if a hundred bucks is too much for you then you have bigger problems to worry about
>>107134276I love the look and feel of basic ass green kindle but it’s fucking Amazon and I’ve been boycotting them for years and I will not relent
>>107138107>>107138127I read on my samsung note (amoled) and rendering (light text on black bancground) is beautiful, much better than my Kindle paperwhite, however the eink is definitely easier on the eyes long term (especially with warm color temp which unfortunately my old pw does not have).>>107141901That's how I got into ebooks and ereaders
>>107138007it's like reading a regular bookso it is easier on the eyes especially before going to sleep
I can imagine a number of readers doing the same, but I got a b-stock Kobo Sage about a year ago and I love the shit out of it for reading comics that ususally fit arounf 7-8"
