holy sovl, windows needs so much more color in it to look kino, windows 7 and 8.1 were based asf, w10 doesnt look too bad if you enable transparency get a nice vivid wallpaper and also enable both settings for coloring in tabs and color outlines around active windows but it could look so much more sovl

Back when I got over it and W10 was already there screwing up everyone's lives, I figured out that the only 3 things 8.1 did to make it really all that worse than W7 were:
1. The start menu
2. One of the settings being available only through the fullscreen settings menu
3. The ribbon UI (which I'm going to be honest, I didn't dislike that much and it made accessing certain settings a little quicker)
That was practically nothing compared to what W10 replaced with something worse.
The day I was unable to install newer drivers and my newer hardware just required a newer version of Windows I felt fucking mortified. It's been a whole fucking decade and W10 didn't win me over because it sucks mongolian cock.

Yup, loved the early metro ui/design. The start menu and full screen UWP apps sacked tho, other than that it was a pretty goated OS

There was even a program to disable the ribbon UI to have explorer play nicely with windows 7 custom visual themes. Nowadays you can use the ribbon/win7 style on W11 with startallback or some other programs

Windows 7 explorer didn't have ribbon yet but that was when they started introducing it to a heap of the default programs. Including to most of Office 2007.
Also by the time 8 was released Office 2010 was fully ribbon.
