I am not going to end up using that DSLR, I just know it. I have to shoot a lot of photos, but half the time it is spontaneous: I will have only my phone. Not to mention that with a more specialized camera I will also end up spending more time editing; something I really wish to avoid.

What carrier has better compatibility in the USA overall? I have a CAN-US plan with a Canadian carrier that allows roaming on the big 3 in the USA. I also have postpaid AT&T but I know they do whitelisting natively, but if you roam onto their network, you aren't subjected to such restrictions. My Canadian carrier doesn't do any IMEI or EID checking to get an eSIM, they just send me a universal QR code. In theory I should be able to use whatever I please.

There's plenty of international visitors that use the various companies to roam. As long as the bands are there, they will typically ignore whatever you have - they want your home carriers money (or to honor their agreements). You may have some weird issues with stuff like voicemail and wifi calling, but the basic functionality should be there.

I've had non-listed phones on ATT postpaid before, but functionality fluctuated a bit. American telcos seem to use weird bands for the most part.
>>
>>107157781
Yea and ATT doesn't like to provision anything for Wi-Fi Calling that isn't sold by them. Kind of obnoxious. It seems like the best way to use a USA carrier these days is to roam on them since they're so strict otherwise. A few years back I bought a blacklisted/stolen Galaxy Note off Facebook for 50 bucks and used it on the Big 3 through travel eSIM providers.

I'm missing the UMTS/HSPA days when just about anything worked since Voice was natively supported on the network without any proprietary tech.

Honestly, TMobile isn't too bad about it, assuming that the phone has the right frequency bands. Most of the pro models from China support pretty every band that would be needed, apart from some of the mm wave bands.

Please help me with a little data recovery. Gonna crosspost this on /sqt/ and /cyb/
I have a Galaxy Note10+ phone with a "half-working" screen. It got busted during a climbing accident. I need to recover the data on it. Particularly, I need the images and the text messages. Also optionally the data from a couple of applications.

>what does "half working" screen mean
When the phone is connected to a power source, I can see the top half of the screen, but the bottom half is black. The entire screen can be touched, so the phone can still be controlled by touch.

>just connect it to my PC via USB and recover the data
This doesn't work, it just freezes. I tried it on Windows and Linux. Neither ADB nor MTP works, at least not over USB. Gonna have to do it wirelessly.

>bluetooth/wifi tethering
If I can remote into the phone somehow, I could probably transfer my data out using 802.11 by using some kind of SMB share or something

>connect to an external screen somehow
This could work, but the question is what hardware would be required. Is there a way to do this with just a USB cable and a laptop? Like, control the screen of my Android with just a USB passthrough? I feel like this method works, but I'd need a USB--HDMI cable as well as some kind of USB splitter so I can also attach a mouse or something, unless I could attach a mouse via Bluetooth. Anyway, I don't think I'll need this old-school method if I just figure out how to wirelessly remote into the device from my PC.

>Samsung device backup
Never used this, how viable is it?

>extreme methods
I know if nothing else works, other techies have replaced the screen, or even desoldered the memory chip and took the data out that way. I don't think I'll need to resort to such extreme methods in this scenario.

You guys got any other ideas?

The new snapdragon 8 elite gen 5 suffers from high levels of thermal throttling.

>During the first couple of passes, the phone managed to hold good peak performance, but as temperatures climbed, things quickly went downhill. By the end of the test, performance dropped by more than 50%. Under sustained load, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 actually performed slower than last year’s chip.

The more I look at things, the more I don't understand the Pixel 10 Pro (XL).
Why is the CPU so shit, when it doesn't even get you good battery life?
Why are the bevels so fucking huge? It goes beyond that, just look at pic rel, and how much screen is wasted!
Why is the telephoto shit, or not even usable, at distances people actually want, i.e., closeups?
I guess it has a couple of decent touches, and Google will sell it to you with year's worth of Gemini subscription, so if you're a Gemini user it's a nobrainer actually. But I like Claude.
I guess I do need to get one of the Chinese phones, or wait for the S26...

Dongles are universally annoying. And swappable batteries are amazing, EU will make things much better but it doesn't force the phonemakers to make their batteries swappable, just removable without specialist tools so I'd imagine no-glue easy to get to tight fit batteries with a ribbon cable and a pull up tab will be the norm. Still I expect the swappable

Looking to get a seemingly near-mint galaxy s3 for dirt cheap. Thought I could replace the battery and install LineageOS on it and use it as a basic phone for calling/texting and flac playback. Is this a good idea or am I delusional and should just buy an S24/Zflip 5 for 300bucksaroos??

There are more than 6. It's just that a phone has to specifically advertise itself as having a removable battery to count. Plenty of rugged phones have a battery that's equally easy to replace as it is on Fairphone 6, yet they're all flagged as having a non-removable battery for some retarded reason.
So, look ingo 5-5.5 inch rugged phones.

I've been getting shit speeds using 5G so I contacted my carrier to ask wtf is going on.
Long story short they want me to switch to an eSIM and get rid of my physical one.
Will this change anything or are they bullshitting me?
Is there a downside to using an eSIM, like is this a marketing psyop where they tell you it's all good but really it's to trap you on their network or something?
>>
>>107172969
they can see when you transfer, from and to what phone and have to allow it. classic botnet behavior
>>
>>107172969
>Will this change anything or are they bullshitting me?
They're bullshitting you. This is the same shit as saying "if your internet is slow try cleaning your SIM card, maybe it's a bit damaged". A SIM is just a unique ID used to register your network adapter to a cell tower. It's either your phone that's shit or your network is being throttled by your carrier. Check your speed on https://fast.com/ .
Your only problem is that almost all 4G/5G carriers have it in their contracts that your maximum speed isn't guaranteed, only a minimum speed of 1-8 MBps is usually guaranteed.
>Is there a downside to using an eSIM
eSIM is significantly less convenient when changing providers or phone numbers.
>>
>>107173058

>>
>>107173058
>>107173114
I see, thanks frens.
They've kinda got me by the balls then because they'll just blame the speeds on the physical SIM and won't help me further unless I make the change.
As far as the speed test I've already done a few and they were all garbage. The one I did just before speaking to them gave me 1.7Mbps download and 0.17Mbps upload. Quite literally over a hundred times slower than even the median speed they advertise which itself is half their theoretical maximum.
I wouldn't even care but it's struggling to load images and half the time I can't watch videos.

>thats totally incorrect. People have lost millions in many first world nations.
sim swapping doesn't matter if you are using a physical or a digital sim
>>
>>107174425
once again, you have no idea what you are talking about. when you switch an eSIM it has to send you a code via text message or it has to send you a QR code via email. The only person that should have access to the phone number or email should be the person swapping the esim. rules change based on carriers, but some carriers will let you request an eSIM directly through apps some make you call but at the end of the day, there is no two factor authentication with the physical sim and thats why millions have been lost through them. they literally have documentaries on National Geographic where Sim swap scammers are letting you know they've made millions off of draining peoples bank accounts just by swapping their SIM and people who work for carriers such as AT&T ended up getting arrested because they were working with these scammers and helping them swap. im not saying physical SIM suck because honestly, I have nothing against them. The only reason I dont like them is because scammers are able to exploit them but at the end of the day you can thank the boomers for falling for such an easy scam too, and not properly securing funds.
>>
>>107174425

What "SIM swapping" really means is that scammers have contacted your mobile phone carrier and have tricked them into activating a SIM card that the fraudsters have. Your own SIM card then no longer works. From what I've read, this can happen with both physical SIM cards and eSIMs.
