There's all this talk about 1:1 and 2:1 or 1:2 on higher speeds, but FCLK 2000 and UCLK at 3000 is a 2:3 ratio in the middle of all that. If something in the chain is already not running in sync, what does it matter if something else isn't synced?
Just running your UCLK at a weird ratio is fine? Is it that simple? Or is this just what people put up with and have settled on until we get 8000MT/s memory?

MCLK is also 3000mhz at 6000mt/s so 1:1 refers to when the UCLK and MCLK are running at a matched speed. 2:1 refers to when the UCLK is running at half speed e.g. like 2000mhz while the MCLK is at 4000mhz (8000mt/s)

FCLK is permanently desynced from UCLK and MCLK unless you're in 2:1 mode where FCLK and UCLK can be synced to 2000mhz. When FCLK is at certain whole number ratios to UCLK, there is a slight performance boost. Like having FCLK at 2000mhz while UCLK is at 3000mhz (ratio of 2 to 3) will give slightly more performance than if you had the FCLK at non whole number ratios like at 2033mhz or 2066mhz

Studio drivers =/= Gaming drivers. I use the Mesa open source AMD drivers on my gaming PC/htpc (using bazzite, which makes all of that stuff braindead simple) and have literally never had issues.

However, the AMD "pro drivers" don't have the same reputation for stability, but do have slightly better performance in some games. It's a tradeoff of optimization for stability.

Nobody who is using CUDA in their professional software stack is running gaming drivers. Also, people shit on Nvidia driver support all the time in professional applications that rely on cuda, because a huge number of them use Linux only/primarily Linux software tools which can get absolutely fucked by bad nvidia driver support.

It's easy to say AMD is better than Nvidia because of open source drivers, but Nvidia also has a open source kernel, probably less open source than AMD (usermode drivers are closed source), but AMD uses mesa which is some open source reference for vulkan that existed without AMD (I think?), and intel uses it as well.
AMD ported the driver they used on windows to linux (the pro driver), but they just gave up, nobody uses it (I think blender was a reason, but not anymore).
So now the frontend for linux and windows are disconnected (they don't use mesa on windows).
I dunno how much that matters (linux and windows are a very different OS, just because nvidia does not diverge into 2 frontends does not mean linux has the same features as windows, and that's JUST the frontend, most of the features that users want the most such as Adrenalin or Nvidia Control Panel settings, probably originate from the binary blob used for the firmware that neither AMD or Nvidia make open source, and they don't share the code used on windows to even start porting it even if the open source code made it possible).
Overall, AMD and Nvidia are a toss up on linux. There is always some niche shit like HDR or whatever that won't apply to me (HDR on linux is a joke from what I have seen, mostly due to wayland / x11 I think?). I just want feature parity with windows but neither are doing anything (such as, I want to customize per game settings through the Nvidia Control panel on linux, or DLDSR or whatever new shit comes out).

Is it a good idea to flash other GPU's BIOS on your own card?
I want to try and see if I can make the default 30% 1200RPM limit any lower, and the least invasive option is to use the BIOS of another GPU that has the minimum RPM set to a lower level (I'm guessing an MSI or ASUS models). How safe is this method?
Other ways to get the fans quieter would be either a low RPM adapter on the fan connector (similar to the ones Noctua makes, if they exist for GPUs) or a deshroud + Noctua fan mod (pic related) which would honestly be the best option, BUT it would be the last option since I don't wanna physically tinker with a card I paid 1000€ for.
The last time I did this, it went well. I replaced the thermal pads on my 3080 FE because Nvidia's factory pads were causing the memory to run at a constant 110C. Swapping pads to something less retarded significantly dropped VRAM temps and the card is still going strong 4+ years later, so I don't mind making some modifications on a card I plan on using for 2-3 years.

I'm gonna try flashing the silent BIOS for the RTX 5080 Astral OC onto my RTX 5080 Zotac Solid.
The ROG Astral's silent BIOS is significantly quieter than the Zotac since ASUS' fans spin at a much lower RPM (pic related). Cooler size seems to be the same (3.5 slots with huge heatsink and fans) and I plan on undervolting the GPU as well so the switch from 360 to 450W should be a non issue. I can always flash it back.

I mean i did this like a year ago and the system has been stable, i probably could squeeze some more of the cpu & gpu with a more tailored approach but its probably not worth the squeeze if i have to come here and ask
Am i being a retard leaving a lot of performance on the table or are the gains not that much over what im already getting with those conservative setups.

I have to get this asus x870 board from a combo deal with a 9800x3d
It is what it is
Im also getting a gen5 nvme

So about lane splitting or bandwidth sharing or whatever.
I put my gen 5 nvme in the first slot under the cpu, as that one is gen 5 and DOES NOT share bandwidth with anything.
I skip the 2nd nvme slot (gen 5) cause that one shares lanes with the GPU
I install my other 2 older nvme in the last 2 slots as those are gen4 and only share funcionality with the remaining pcie which i wont use (i understand that slot gets deactivated).

Also unrelated but i should uninstall Armoury crate from the bios, thats just some random tidbit i found in these threads that always gets mentioned in these boards.

Any help would be welcome.

VRM temp is an overblown issue. Nobody in the real world has ever cared about PCIe bandwidth. 4 m.2 slots is plenty. 4x DIMM is more than you need on AM5 unless you're productivitying, which on a home PC is gay, and a work PC will be paid in full by your employer so you just pick the most expensive parts available and don't care.

I've been trying to do direct die cooling on AM5 + 8600G (uses solder paste under the lid, so delidding is easy and gives you huge advantages). Have a Noctua and 3D printed the direct die spacer for their cooler.
Problem is, when pressing power on, the board powers up for only a split second. Then it turns off. Nothing else happens. If I put the lid back on and install everything normally, the machine still works, so the CPU is not damaged, in fact I'm posting from that PC right now.

What could cause the board to instantly power off? Is it just the spacer being too small and not putting enough downforce on the chip, resulting in not all socket pins connecting? Or is there some other detection in the socket frame like it closes a circuit or something?

It's probably overkill though, just by putting mx-6 under the lid, the heatsink alone keeps the cpu under 80C so I could even run it passive...

The 4.0 NVME drives will all be connected through the chipset which alone connects via a single x4 bus, and the 5.0 NVMEs will have one straight to cpu, the other MAY or MAY NOT share lanes with the GPU, forcing the GPU to run at x8 if you use the two 5.0 NVME slots.
You'll have to check the manual which one is the case.

More importantly, even a 5090 will see less than 1% performance loss if you run it at 8x, and you'd only see the bottleneck if you were running both 5.0 and both 4.0 NVMEs at 100% read speeds which is a nonsense situation on a desktop consumer board (I should know, I run 3x NVMEs).

So you are concerned over nothing.

The lane set up is pretty specific to each motherboard.
But if that's what the board says are dedicated lanes, then that's what they should be.

Realistically, yes you could run your GPU and SSD on the same lane and not really see any difference, however. So actually testing if it's set up correctly isn't the easiest task.

Got Phantom Spirit 120 SE. It's really nice. I feel like I smeared the thermal paste shittily this time as well, especially because it was hard to screw the heat sink down with everything in the way, but it is what it is. Miles better than previous cooler attaching mechanism as well.

Did that already. It's better, but only at absolute max load, which I never run the chip at. Currently using MX-6, which is not as good as gallium but already 10C better than the factory toothpaste under the lid. Getting 30C idle temps with it just like with gallium. If I run the CPU at 5GHz and the iGPU at 3GHz maxed out, then liquid metal is measurably better, but I run the chip with turbo clocks off so that will never happen.

I want to avoid liquid metal because it's a bitch to set up and clean, and I'm worried that if I'll ever sell the chip it'll cause problems (spill under the lid when in transit and cause a short on the caps on the PCB). And I already have the base necessities for direct die cooling, so I want to give it a try. I basically ran all my GPUs since the 2000s with custom coolers so I'm not new to direct die cooling, just never used it with a CPU before.

Turbo clocks are on by default on all modern CPUs. It is set to retarded settings too, especially on Ryzens which overvolt themselves to 1.5V so they can maintain maximum boost clocks. Additionally, the 5000x3d and 7000x3d chips have the memory stacked on top of the chiplets, insulating them, making their thermals worse, it's why they are hard capped for 1.35V or something (9000x3d fixed this by putting the 3d memory under the chiplets).

Disable turbo clocks on ryzens, and they'll run at 10-15% lower clocks, but they'll barely hit 1.1V if that. They'll run 20-30C cooler.
You can do it in Windows Control Panel, under the power plans -> advanced -> maximum CPU usage set to 99% instead of 100%, then save. That way you can turn it on/off at will.
Alternatively you can disable core performance boost in the BIOS but that needs rebooting to undo.

You generally want the fastest possible DDR4/DDR5 kit that those Intel CPUs can support (with tight timings).
OP recommends 6400MT/s for Intel CPUs because it was the noob friendly stopping point for both non-K and & K CPUs.
Non-K CPUs have stricter System Agent voltage limits that can prevent the chip from running faster speeds.
