What speakers do you have? I’m using Logitech X-530 for movies and vidya and two Apple HomePods for music
speakers?
I've had them for about a decade, they are pretty good.Movies, vidya and music. Have you tried pureaudio music rips?
>>107210840Creative A250. Great 2.1 system for the price. I have a TV behind me when I'm at the computer so I want to set up a 5.1 system that I can invert when watching TV, just a second center channel at the TV and I'm set hardware wise (not currently but comparatively to a normal 5.1 setup)
>>107210935Based anon. I've had the exact set for just as long.
Jamo DS5, bought them on sale on day and been rocking them since. They are kinda obscure, not a lot of reviews on them.
I like to use real speakers. Or at least decently sized powered ones.>>107210840>Logitech X-530 I installed those as 2.1 to grandma's tv. Ceapo tv with decent panel became tolerable.
>>107210840I had an X-230 set and it was absolute trash, especially the sub.I now use Kali Audio IN-5 studio monitors and they're great.
>>107210840Jbl stage a130 and svs sb-1000 pro.
>>107210840>X-530it was a good system everything after that in the series was kinda shit
>>107210935 X-530 is miles better, buy sh X-530
>>107210840>Logitech X-530Sub rattles like a tin can after 6 months. Grab JBL 305Ps or Kali LP-6s if you want monitors that aren't ass, or vintage passives + class D amp for the price of one HomePod. Stop buying chinkshit PC speakers.
>>107210840some old fuckin wooden speakers on the floor and a tape/tuner/phono amplifier, the PC is phono, lets me make mixtapes pretty easily from the tape deck and all
>>107212798No wait the PC is hooked up to the tuner input actually because phono is for devices that need preamplification

It's a compromise ... decent bass and fits in the spot under my monitor on my desk. I guess I could wall mount some speakers above my desk but I like the sound to be head level so... not many good options.
Kali lp-6 v2
>>107210840i use a pair of bookshelf speakers that are no longer in production that produce the best sound i have ever heard come from my computer connected to an amplifier that is connected to a volt 2 audio interface.
>>1072108407.1 home theatre system and 2 mid range satellites + cheap tube amp for music
Still using a x 530. Only issue I ever had was I had to send in the subwoofer for a replacement very early on.
Microlab X4, from very early 2000's. It's some kind of nicer Bose fake/clone. Sound relatively good when you EQ them so despite planning to replace them for a long time I never bothered in the end.
don't remember who recommended these but i've had them since 2021 and no complaints maybe they were a bit pricey
>>107210840Monitor Audio Bronze BX2 speakers with a BK Electronics Gemini II sub and NAD C326 BEE amp. I bought them all like over a decade ago now, still super happy with everything.
>>107217149I just have speaker stands on the sides of my desk. This doesn't result in optimal positioning for stereo imaging (the listening position and speakers need to be an equilateral triangle IIRC) but it's still quite good, plus I get to use real speakers and not some tiny under-monitor sound bad.
>>107210840Edifier MR4s. They aren’t great but at least they are a cut above usb slop. Will upgrade to kalis LP-UNF eventually.>>107212412>jbl stage A130I wish I had gotten these but they were out of stock and the new line apparently isn’t as good.
I need something for my new build. What are the go-to budget speakers? I am no audiophile. I just want something decent that doesn't take much space
>>107217149> I guess I could wall mount some speakers above my desk but I like the sound to be head level so...Head level is ideal, but it’s better for sound to come from above than below. If the speaker is slanted upwards (like your soundbar apparently is) it mitigates some of this issue, but you can probably get some considerably better treble just by crouching next to it to make it head level. As for wall mounts, they aren’t great because you throw the bass straight into a wall. You want the speakers to be at least 30cm away from a wall, more if there is a corner. Speaker positioning is hard, takes a ton of space but makes one hell of a difference.
>>107217633Define “budget”. A lot of people think anything under $1000 is a budget speaker. If you want under $100, edifier is the best bet. Probably the MR3s.
>>107217686>you throw the bass straight into a wallAssuming there's a bass port on the back, or what? How would a speaker throw the bass into the wall behind it otherwise?
>>107210840i got the logitech z906.my neighbors love it when i play hardstyle
>>107217710yeah below $100 is acceptable. I can only find MR4 on pcpartpicker. Is it an upgrade of sort or should I manually look for MR3 elsewhere?
>>107217713>Assuming there's a bass port on the back, or what? That’s where 99% of speakers have their bass port. Some have them both in the front and the back.
>>107217782The MR3 vs MR4 comparison is a bit controversial. The MR3 is newer, cheaper and measures better out of the box but the MR4 takes EQ better because of the different format in one of the fr peaks. But the difference won’t be huge, they are just okay, after all. Just get whichever you can. Theres also the R1280s, which are priced similarly, measure worse but seem to subjectively please a lot of people. Also easier to run if you are a complete audio normie as it has USB and bluetooth connection (the MRs only have RCA and TRS).
So many people with tiny winey pc 5.1 speakers. I though those died out like 15 years ago.>>107217633>I just want something decent that doesn't take much spaceIt's really depends on a budget and what you consider small. If you need smallest speakers possible the only go with illouds. Other semi-deccent options are some consumer stuff like presonus e3.5 or similar mackie or edifier. If you're okay with 5.25 inch or bigger woofers there's a lot more options. Best cheap new powers speakers probably gonna be jbl 305. Also you can look at something second hand. Some people sell their old bookshelf speakers extremely cheap. You'd just need to buy an amp on amazon.>>107217518It's the best small speakers on the market.>>107217713Most of my speakers have front ports, but on my center it's in the back. I just stuffed a sock into it.
>>107217713almost all speakers are omnidirectional in bass due to the wavelengths involved, irrespective of where the driver or port is placedhe's still wrong though, putting speakers very close to the wall gives you extra headroom in bass and helps against SBIR, assuming you have access to eq to pull down excess bass, see https://www.genelec.com/monitor-placement
>>107210840Focal CMS40's and a Sub Air subwoofer
>>107217832>>107217846thanks for the recs but I just realzied that there is not enough space horizontally with two monitors on my desk. I will probably have to look for a soundbar
>>107218280Just stick with headphones at that point
>>107218322I feel more comfortable without headphones due to tinnitus issues
>>107210840> What speakers do you have?I have some older than me fisher speakers but just this evening, when I put “four way street” on my aging record player one of them cut out right in the middle of southern man. >>107218347try open backs
>>107218280you don't have any space at all? You might put speakers behind the monitors as long the twitter is visible. Also there are some narrow stuff like Creative T40 or you can look into buying or building 2.1 system
>>107218468>What’s the most sensible way to get a moderate hifi system? You want surround or just stereo? i'd look into local used deals. Some old powered monitors like yamaha hs or krk rockit. Or passive bookshelfs and add class d amp like Fosi Audio.Alternativly if you want new there are deccent cheap stuff like Elac Debut, Polk ES15 or Sony SSCS5. After that you can add a some sub.

>>107218468>What’s the most sensible way to get a moderate hifi system?Look for sales and buy whatever has a deep discount. IMO once you're in the mid-price range of speakers everything is basically the same in objective quality and the minor differences are subjective snake oil. Powered systems (speakers + amp combined in one unit) are attractive and are cheaper up front but always fail faster than passive speakers + a decent amp.
