The AI was legitimately really good for it's time. This lasted about a week before the devs looked at DungeonAI crashing and burning itself into irrelevance over people using it for NSFW material and decided that was the exact route they wanted to take.
So they lobotomized the site by having a second AI running a filter on the first one. This absolutely fucked the AI's response speed, which they tried to pretend wasn't the cause, but then the filter AI broke for a day and the speed was suddenly way better. And then magically when the filter AI was back up it slowed to a crawl.
Then one day this post came up on c.ai's forums and they promised to get back to everyone with a proper response. About a week later the response they gave was essentially "lmao you guys are schizos, we're doing nothing wrong, we don't have to tell you anything"

Unironically though, their paranoia over the NSFW stuff is what made it explode on their site. Most bots were SFW and they were actually pretty amusing.
