>work experience
Congratulations! If you're in a situation that requires you to be here, you're probably best off working at McDonald's, Starbucks, or the local Indian or Chinese restaurant. Beats actual unemployment, as humbling as it is.

Definitely revise your resume so it's tailored more toward customer service, however.

>there's nothing in my metropolitan area!
Well now might be the chance to move to, idk, Mississippi or South Dakota. No tech jobs there, but plenty of retail and service I guess. Or health if you take the nursing pill.

The anxiety has almost become crippling. I am barely eating anymore. It never stops, no matter what I do. Yesterday I studied for 6 hours straight, fell asleep on my desk, woke up this morning at 2 am, studied for 4 more hours, and I still felt too anxious to relax and play some video games on a sunday.
I miss being a neet. At least then the anxiety only popped up before I went to sleep. Now it's constant, unending, follows me everywhere, and haunts me no matter what I do. Even when I'm studying or applying for jobs it follows me, telling me I'll never be enough. My mind is a prison.

In Germany if you're an engineer you are made fun of if you don't have a skilled trade degree and a little experience.
A university degree is taken after you've already done some trade work. That's why they never get unemployed because they can always fall back to installing plugs and wires if they aren't allowed to code.

I guess godhood is realizing that you will never outcompete them because they are willing to work 10 hours a day under indentured servitude (and the threat of deportation) for 70% of your wage because they are happier living on the streets of america than being in jeetland

it's easy to say "just outcompete them bro" in a high paying field like tech, but apply the same principal to lower paying jobs. Are you seriously going to tell white people to pick strawberries for $4 an hour and outcompete the haitians that are willing to work for $5, as long as it's in america? If they don't work for those wages they'll be forced back to haiti where barbecue the warlord is going to eat them alive. same principal applies to tech.

How the fuck is this shit legal? There isn't a single white or even Asian who gets rejected and decides to sue them for blatant discrimination?

>>107230726

This is all bullshit, Hindu culture actually looks down on hard work and makes it impossible for them to be anything but lazy, entitled parasites who try to leach off the work of others. Even in India, all of the actual hard work is done by Muslims, Sikhs, and non-Hindus. The "higher caste" you are in Hinduism the less work you do and the more work you make others do. So what happens in India is they just sit around leaching on gibs their government gives them so they don't chimp out. In the west, they all try to be managers and CEOs, and failing that, sit in a comfy white collar job and get some sucker to do their work.

Next time you pass by a construction crew or a soup kitchen, tell me which kinds of people you see there. You'll see whites, blacks, a few Asians, Muslims, Sikhs, Christians....but you will never see an Indian Hindu invader anywhere there is hard work to be done.

We have an actual table of H-1B wages vs the amount paid to Americans, it's no where near as low as you think. For a $120K American job, the H-1B would get 100K. For a 150K American, they get paid 120K. When you see how small the difference is, it makes your blood boil that they flooded their nations with the worst parasites in human history over what amounts to a rounding error for big tech companies.

If you're an American who is out of work, there is absolutely no way you would refuse the jeet pay to instead go work a shit job at McDonalds. I'm willing to bet Americans would even accept as low as 70K provided it's remote work. You just have to pay slightly more than the shittest retail jobs and you will always find willing out of work tech bros, there is no excuse to ever hire Indians.

I know this is a stupid question with 50k layoffs the past couple years, but is there any hope of entering the games industry for a person who has had a few programming jobs and written a number of mods for games? It used to be feasible to "work your way up from the bottom" by just testing for games companies for a low salary and eventually getting promoted to something like tools programming. Do they even do in-house testing anymore, or is that all outsourced now?

QA is outsourced most of the time, and they are dropping more and more juniors now because why would you need a junior when a senior could do the same/be faster with a prompt?
You would have higher chances if you took a year or two to develop a game yourself on UE5 or Unity and show them you can be useful from the get-go. That's what gaming school and some old big shot at a games company will tell you at least.

An uncomfortable truth that big tech is going to have to reconcile with. Can't cocksuck "AI everywhere" and then forbid it for the most AI-able thing: snippets of leetcode.

Top engineers now aren't the guys that can spit out puzzle solutions on command, it's the guys that understand the big picture, high level, concepts, and can wire pieces together.

Yeah that's a tough ask
I'm in a similar situation. I have a week for my first interview and I haven't touched leetcode in months, although I'm very familiar with my language.

First off, confirm 100% the interview is going to be leetcode (search up similar interviews for your position on google / reddit)
Then, if it is going to be leetcode, watch this video from start to finish (and follow along, coding your own implementations of their solutions)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z_c4byLrNBU
Then start going through the leetcode 150 and solve all the easy problems (each should take you 5-20 minutes)
https://leetcode.com/studyplan/top-interview-150/
Optionally, get leetcode premium (if the company is big enough) and look at the problems they've asked in the last 3 months, go through all of the easy questions
https://leetcode.com/company/facebook/
If you get stuck on a problem don't spend 2 hours on it, just look at the solutions, COPY THE SOLUTION MANUALLY LINE BY LINE, understand it, and then move on.

If you're applying to a junior / mid position there's a good chance you're only going to get easies on the first round. Maybe a medium. If you practice 10 hours a day for the next 5 days you can get good enough to solve 80-90% of easies consistently.
Assuming you pass the first interview, that gives you maybe another week at most to keep practicing and have a chance of solving mediums before the second round interview (which is the real challenge)

Good luck

one of my closest friends from middle and high school was a massive pothead. He used to be just like me, interested in the same games, forums, etc. in middle school. Then he picked up weed in 8th grade. Started having a bunch of problems with his parents, I stopped being allowed to hang out at his house because his mom didn't want anyone to visit him anymore, he kept getting in fights with his dad too, and failing at school. Eventually he went into a remedial program and graduated a year early, just to stop going to high school.

Of course he was incredibly smart and made a shit load of money selling drugs himself and moved out. Then he got arrested over an aggravated assault charge (because he had an issue with one of his neighbors and they called the cops on him, while he had a gun without a concealed carry permit). They let him off with anger management classes, and then he tried to run away from a speeding ticket and crashed his car, getting him another charge. That gave him a fine and 2 years of probation. He had to wear an ankle bracelet for 6 months. I got into fights with him because he asked me to sell a bunch of his monero (which he earned from selling drugs of course) to pay for a lawyer, and his parents wouldn't help him.

I stopped talking to him after that. This was about 3 years ago. I just found out that he got arrested again last month for a strongarm robbery charge (trying to rob someone, but without a weapon).
All of the boomer shit they say about "weed being addictive and a gateway drug" is 1000% correct. Don't smoke pot, or drink. Just play video games and get addicted to caffeine like everyone else.

>you can only hurt yourself by saying your number

I have an interview with fagman this week, the job listing said $100-199k. It doesn't matter what I say, so I just lowballed and asked 100k when the recruiter asked what salary I want. After how many months of unemployment should a person consider warehousing?
>>
>>107236918
Did this for past 3 years at a shitty remote "analyst" job before getting laid off finally. No future for me. At least I can go out knowing I spent the last year of my life just driving around the country and experiencing what most people wait their whole careers to do. It's kinda weird. Felt like I was reliving a childhood I never had, but also like it was my life coming full circle and I had this deep feeling that the end was approaching

Great country. The only upshot is I know the system will collapse sooner or later so it wouldn't even matter if I'd managed to get a job. I'd unironically have had better chances of getting a job if I'd done my dissertation in Gender Studies or whatever.

I've already spent over a decade in higher education working my guts out for zero results. I'm tired man, if I knew it'd bear fruit I'd consider it but frankly it feels utterly hopeless. I can already see it, I get the MBA and all that happens is I get a piece of paper reading "Master of Business Administration" to hang next to the equally useless piece of paper reading "Doctor of Philosophy" and still can't get a job. I'm of the opinion now that universities should be straight-up abolished, they're a clear drain on society.

I guarantee anyone with 10+ years at a company can easily land a job at any other place with bare minimum effort, you've got the resume experience to back it up. Employers love seeing long work histories because they know they can get some real value out of you and you're stable. Don't even try to lump someone with that kind of background in the same pool as NEETs who either never worked or only ever did 6-12 month stints.
>>
>>107241975
hard to get a blue collar job when your resume already has a B.S. and years of internships and xp in white collar work.
Last time I worked a job like that was in 2022 for like 3 months while I waited for my start date at my actual job.
Removing all the other shit and only leaving the wagie jobs would be a red flag too because of the gap.
No manager is going to hire someone with office job xp just for them to jump ship as soon as an opportunity opens up. They'd rather hire an ex-con or single mom who has no other choice.

That's only partially true. If you're like me and only worked for three years before getting cut, it's a bit harder. I'm at least getting interviews and recruiters contacting me, but I usually can't get past a few rounds of interviews before it becomes obvious that I didn't do jack shit. Especially if it's in the same industry. Literally all I did at my job was occasionally log in to the database to translate some business reqs to super basic SQL. Shit was so dry and I never bothered to learn the reasoning behind the reqs other than what was strictly necessary to write the code. And my imperative programming abilities have atrophied so much since then so I get filtered by technicals anways.
Had an on-site at least that went pretty well tho. Waiting to hear back. Pretty much only asked basic questions about comfort level with various technologies and languages, but it's a small team of people who have been there for decades modernizing the company's old mainframe system. It sounds like a comfy job and they all seem quite happy with it, but I kinda fear that I'd just be dead weight and thus a net-negative to morale if they actually brought me on.

Sure, sour grapes in his case, but family life is not really the best thing for everyone. My brother is married with 2 kids and its done him wonders because he was aimless and is kind of a needy person. I love my nephews to death, but I couldn't imagine my life with a wife and kids. He doesn't have time for shit and has to deal with his wife's mood swings (every woman is like this btw) and his kids require constant monitoring and education (kids are egotistical assholes most of the time, specially boys).
If you're an independent person with a lot of hobbies a family can unironically destroy your life. That's why a lot of men abandon their families, get fat, turn to alcoholism, etc.

The biggest meme in tech is "graduating" in cybersecurity with zero real world experience working in any of the base IT fields such as networking, sysadmin, programming, or DBM. You have no idea what these jobs entail, you don't know the ins and outs and black magic voodoo necessary to keep shit up and running, how could you possibly serve any any point of reference as a security expert to someone who has been working in a field for tens of thousands of hours when you don't know the first thing about their actual job? Congratulations, your college taught you how to install and run vulnerability scanners, what does that translate to?
>>
>>107249195

In an interview transitioning from sysadmin to cybersecurity, I got asked if I knew about certificates. "Like PKI...?" You should really look into those

Guess what? Guess what everything is? Everything is fucking PKI

It's go at your own pace, no waiting for classes to be held and wgu accepts credits earned from accredited institutions such as sophia and study.com. After this class I'll have knocked out 20 classes leaving only 17 left at wgu. Studying full time 40 hours a week has translated to me knocking out about a class a week (not including math classes) so I got 6 months to finish up 17 classes. All in all it will have taken me a year. Benefit of not only being able to attend 2-3 classes a week. And it's stuff I've been doing in my free time my whole life already.
