You go into sleep debt t.alcholic. You eventually knock out for 12-14 hours once a week. I would knock out and wake up 4 hours later on alcohol feeling refreshed(i manage my electrolytes).

What is true is that some people sleep more or less depending upon age, weight and genetics. I used to sleep 9 hours up until the age of 16 then it dropped to 8 hours and now its 7 hours but barely more than that.

I meet with my manager's boss every once in a while. Next time, should I voice how I feel totally outgrown from my manager? I eclipse him in programming and soft skills. He is vibe coding in the worst way possible.

Just saying in case you don't realize: judging from your post, you sound like you want him to fire your manager and be promoted to replace him, and that's the message he will get, probably
If that's not what you want, make it very clear, because things might go wrong for you lmao

>>
>>107238000
It depends on your relationship with him but think about it from his point of view: a manager is only as good as his reports, and ultimately he has to answer for the progress of his projects. How do you have the motivation?
I did 3 years of college during COVID REMOTE and then I always had hybrid or remote work arrangement. Now they want full RTO and I just can't fucking do it. I have not shown up in 5 months and I think I will get fired.
It just feels so clearly stupid that we have the capability for me to work remote yet I can't for some arbitrary reason.
>>
>>107238612
I go to office 2-3x a week and think it's fine. Any more than that any my precious free time would be too short for me to mentally recover.

>>
>>107238612

>>
>>107238634
We went from 1 day a week in office (which I thought was fine) to they want 5 days now. Every day in office.
They declared this 5 months ago and I just never went back. Now my coworkers are starting to complain about me because I just kept working remote while they are going in. Everything is so fucking stupid.
>>
>>107238477
AI presumably builds test coverage according to the requirements.
Test automation is some of the easiest code to generate too especially if it's done in that gerkin format.
>>
>>107238690
You are very likely fucked. I'd start leetcodemaxxing and systemdesignmaxxing now.
>>
>>107238689
I would do that too if it was an option.
They made my life worse in every way. I was living an hour away from the office so I had to move to an apartment to be closer. I was living with my elderly mom and helping her bills. Now she is basically starving because I can't live at home to help with bills. It's so fucking stupid. I actually hate these people because of RTO. They are ruining my life. I also miss my cat.
>>
What can you get away with in office anyways? The funny shit is I think that RTO is insanely more strict now compared to back before. I'd be watching movies during my coding. Other people would be bringing their continuing education stuff and just self study. Others would fuck around and do arm wrestling tournaments.

Now you can't get away with that shit at all. Even self study if it's not for the company purposes is a no-go.
>>
>>107238756
The funny thing is everyone is much more productive working remote. Every time I have been in the office my coworkers stand around chatting about marvelslop and sportsball for like 90 minute sessions at a time. And I can't focus on anything either because all I hear is people on their teams calls everywhere. Fuck RTO. Fuck every exec that did this shit.
>>
My workers are hard at work as always! I must say, I do pay them a bit too much. :)

That was a JOKE, people. All X employees are well compensated. Seriously, it's like everyone on the internet has forgotten what a joke is.
>>
>>107238756
IME, companies that RTO also have hella metrics tracking so the ol' office space style time wasting isn't tolerated for very long.
I remember back in 2015 when I'd stream Dota 2 International on my second monitor. I highly doubt that would fly in any office now lmao.
>>
>>107238756
Here they are relatively relaxed as long as long as we have some deliverables every sprint. Remote some days of the week, free coffee and socializing in the office.
But to be fair our company is still making a good profit compared to many other companies and our dev team is like 1/5 of the entire IT department only.
>>
>>107238756
Back when I was an officecuck (back in ~2016) I used to book meeting rooms by myself so I could just fuck around on my phone, watch tv shows, play vidya, etc. Just because they forced me into the office, doesn't mean I was any more productive.
>>
>>107238789
I work at a giant soulless Fortune 500 company. One time I clicked on a news article that Windows shows you in the bottom left corner. I got an offer for a .NET developer role with a department in the State government. Half of my friends are saying this is a good role and I should take it. The other half say companies will trash my resume if I stay in a state job for any length of time.
I want to take the role, will it really be that bad for my resume? I'm 3YOE right now.

I'm ashamed to say this but... McDonald's has become my favorite place to visit aside from the gym. It's a nice, short trip that gets me out of the house frequently to get coffee or a muffin. Coffee is amazing, and cheap (I don't eat their food). The walk is about 30 minutes. No where else to go. Don't care that it's $400 a year I spend on this either. It's a continual happiness and satisfaction. Way better than a $400 tablet or 6-10 meals at a restaurant.

It's also nice they're always open since I'm a night owl.

My life is quiet... I focus on my gym reps, my hobby programs, and language learning. Maybe exciting stuff will happen when I motorcycle across Vietnam, maybe not. I'll return here to the same routine. And repeat.

work is doing rto in the new year, why? because boomers who went to the office everyday want to go back, and hr has their own space/desks.

rest of us, hotel-ling cubes or bench style.
I swear if there is not a bookable cube, I'm gonna take over one of the fake living rooms they have, and raid a server room for a rolling monitor stand.

worst part is there is an office 5 minutes away, but I can not use it as its only for one team. I have to drive 45 minutes, because that is my assigned office, and they of course before rto gave up the building downtown next to the rail station, and put it on the side of a highway, because rest of folks didn't want to pay $25/day for parking, walk 1-2km from free parking, or just take the train/bus.

FDC coffee tastes better than most of black rifle coffees branded stuff and generally is cheaper.

horse is good but very lean and a little tougher than beef or pork. you cant just cook it in its own juices for 5 seconds and expect shit to be alright like you can with a steak or tenderloin or w/e. with horse meat you will have to actually season your food, maybe even use a heat setting lower than max

I'm going fucking insane.

I don't know if anyone at this company does any actual work. Everyone's just generating shit with AI. The lead developer writes Jira tickets with AI and then has AI implement them. And if I ask questions about a ticket that was made a week ago, he doesn't know what the ticket says or how the suggested solution in the ticket works.

The fucking requirements documentation is also written by an AI. These are supposed to be things that we are obligated to deliver to the client and all of the details in them have been made up by AI. If there's a client requirement to integrate the software with third-party software XYZ, the requirements documentation has made-up API endpoints for XYZ.

How the fuck am I supposed to work like this? Am I the crazy one?

What's worse is that I was the one who started it 5 years ago, when I didn't know about maintainable project architecture and such, but everyone took my ideas as gospel and never challenged me.
It's still like that and they still believe that whatever I'm doing is automatically correct.

The majority of the time in grad school is spent doing research rather than coursework. I only had 2 classes a semester for 2 years before I transitioned to doing research full-time. Overall, there is a lot more work than in undergrad, especially if you're not great at technical writing like I am.

Its usually the team leads / managers and directors that aren't jeets. Although I did work for a British company recently that have a small office in the US and their sec director and CISO were both jeets, so seems it isn't just a US thing.

There really is no escaping the jeet menace.

>i used all my sickdays
what kind of dystopian dictactorship are you from, north korea ?
>>
I don't like taking sick days because it feels like my coworkers will become resentful I'm not there to help, and with my luck, I'll be sick on the one day anything actually happens and my help is genuinely appreciated (even if not strictly needed)
>>
Man a vendor is coming at me for something I sent my boss but I'm respectful and just forwarded to him while telling the vendor to wait but my boss has been not really taking the lead on this and I'm getting fucking annoyed as fuck with playing office politics and going "uhh do I just tell the vendor hold again? Do I just redirect to my boss directly? at this point do I just ghost and just let whoever else is on the chain deal with it and direct upwards?"

I really don't give a shit about this but it's my boss sign off and he hasn't given any direction on it.

>>107252719
Then think of it like this: Your co-workers will resent you more for coming in and spreading disease like an acolyte of nurgle.
>>
>caring about your coworkers
>caring about your actual job
actual cucks in here lmfao
>>
>>107252682
based. I hate when leadership comes in while their sick because it subtly dictates you gotta come in while sick. Even worse when they do a half day and I'm like "lmfao why the fuck did you even come in then"
>>
What % of salary raise would you take over friendly non-backstabbing coworkers and management? Of course the new role doesn't have to be shit, in fact it can be better, Its just that you wouldn't know.
>>
>>107253203
I don't know why but I'm having difficulties parsing what the fuck you're asking

He took the time to study management at university so he's never gonna get fired and will always be a leader paid more than you.

>security department in a big regional corpo
>upper management fires a bunch of competent people from multiple areas
>replaces them during the next year with absolutely retarded newbies that make everyone else less productive
Why is management such scum?
These.very same people ask

I had a data structures and algorithms class, but it was heavier on the structures than the algorithms... so I learned how to implement linked lists and other stuff, but not so much when to use them in problems. My curriculum was mostly just how to do Java. This was 15+ years ago though. We did have one COBOL class, but it should have been called "Advanced Looping". Most of it was actually just trying to login to the mainframe.

I don't care about having a big house.
I do care about having a garage though where I can hang up a giant Confederate flag and drink beer and listen to AC/DC all Saturday while tinkering on a lawnmower engine.

I have an honest question guys. I dont want it to be true but I really cannot help but notice that ever since our companies CTO became Indian I am literally only seeing Indians being hired for management positions. The reason I doubt that is intentional is because he does not seem to be someone who has ethnic loyalties. He is always praising non-Indians in all-hands meetings and I've had good experiences with him. But come up literally all 6 of the hires in management are Indian? That cant be just a coincidence.
