Will he btfo windows?
>>
>>107236553
He already has.
>>
Half Life 3
Development Period: 2021-2025
Release Date: 18th November 2025
Platforms: Arch Linux (exclusive)
>>
>>107236553
>Will he btfo windows?
Absolutely not, valve & Linux fanboys will say otherwise, but just like the year of the Linux, it will never happen.
>>
>>107236553
he might fuck up their console market
>>
>>107236553
He actually has a fair chance to do so, given Microsoft's continued fuck ups. If he plays his cards right, he could be the reason Linux becomes the standard.
>>
>>107238398
At best, linux will become the "standard" for gaming pc's and console appliances, which is still an enthusiast market. You will have to drag people kicking and screaming into a new OS when they never chose their OS to begin with. These are people who don't want to learn anything that they don't have to, and want the exact same familiar experience, regardless of any problems it has, because anything new requires them to learn.
>>
I want him to blow me out

>>107238398
Normies won't buy this unless it's cheaper than consoles. We'll see.
>>
>>107236553
He won't
I am a Linux user, but he won't

it's 3 times faster than consoles, unlikely to be cheaper
>>
>>107238378
Microsoft already fucked it up themselves
>>
>>107238842
>unlikely to be cheaper
Why? Because valve couldn't give these away for a symbolic Dollar if they wanted to? Because consoles have never been subsidized by the manufacturer before? If they want to this is simply put the fucking end for Xbox and Sony's hardware division with no way out for them. The steam market and CS gambling could keep them giving these away for free for longer than Nintendo has existed.
>>
>>107238882
It's a boutique gaming pc not a mass market product
>>
>>107238898
>has already been shown on steams frontpage
>will only continue to get shown even more on steams frontpage as release nears
>not a mass market product
Are you delusional or retarded? We are talking about the front page of the single biggest games store on earth.
>>
>>107236553
exact same threads as when the deck was announced
>"yes anon, it will totally btfo windows, its the year of the linux desktop!"
>linux desktop is well hidden
>some youtubers made linux videos
>linux got a 0.1 bump
>nothing else happened
>>
>>107236553
The easiest way to btfo Windows: release HL3, but only on Linux. Check mate.
>>
>>107236553
No. However, he'll BTFO Playstation.
>>
>>107236553
i don't believe his linux-based OS will give me better performance in certain games that cause my windows machine to chug.
that said, their progress is a good sign, and I'm optimistic about their future accomplishments.
>>
>>107236553
Nah, Windows is entrenched like Facebook. He will never be bigger than Microsoft.

microsoft has dominated the personal computer operating system landscape since 1985. That includes MS-DOS and Windows gaming. Nobody else ever has a chance.
>>
Microsoft already forced him to invest money into free shit
he already lost
>>
>>107239187
he just bought a $500 million dollar yacht I don't think he minds giving a couple hundred k or a million to some nerds to defeat microsoft
>>
>>107236553
Microsoft is doing it themselves.

>>107239209
he's only doing that because MS threatens his gravy train
and they still have leverage over the spyware valve peddles on their store
>>
>>107239310
That is bullshit. It wouldn't take much to not update games for people on Windows 10, so they can continue to play without fear of the update making the game unplayable.
>>
>>107239132
But he doesn't need to become bigger than Microsoft, he just needs to make Linux-based hardware more viable for gaming. Easy does it. No need to bite off more than you can chew.
>>
the moment this man starts making enterprise products in any capacity, whether it be devices or an OS or even just software, microsoft is gonna have a run for it's money. which feels very poetic, since i'm pretty sure he was working on early windows as a microsoft dev back in the day. the sheer success story of this man has single-handedly caused my impostor syndrome. what a chad
>>
>>107239339
He doesn't need to btfo Windows either.
>Linux based hardware
Handhelds for children, what a revolution.
>>
>>107239337
>That is bullshit
did you forget what happened when Win7 was getting forcibly phased out?
even the entire steam client is beholden to MS, because they're short-sighted retards
>>
>>107239390
What does it matter, does it sell? Do customers find value in it?
And if it works on linux then so much better, as it asserts its viability as a consumer OS
>>
>>107239406
chrome stopped working on win 7, nothing to do with microsoft
>>
>>107236553
What I don't get is the obsession with SteamOS when theres plenty of distros out there that do the same thing, or offer better desktop experiences.

Unless people just want that rubber stamp linux bistro from a company they trust and the lie of being well supported. Valve have done a lot of good work behind the scenes for Linux but unfortunately even they can't snap their fingers and make obscure hardware combinations, nvidia drivers just werk on linux. Let alone software support.
>>
>>107239414
sure, nothing to do with MS
this time it'll just be "Denuvo drops Win10" support, right?

>>107236553
What's the point of using linux if you're going to install software that doesn't respect your freedom?
>>
>>107239457
i think chrome devs were just lazy and didn't want to support an unsecure EOL os
>>
>>107236553
No, not fully. But I think the exodus from Windows for gamers specifically is a slow going process at this point, and unlikely to reverse.
Even Microsoft sees it and is trying to release that game mode shit or whatever they're talking about.
