Should I write a Wayland compositor? Maybe I can add missing features like global positioning and onmove hooks, and position queries.

Are you also going to rewrite every single piece of software to use these new features? This is the issue, you can add whatever features you like, if no software uses those features then whats the point.

Dude, a lot of software depends or need that features. Now frameworks like Qt behave differently under Wayland becase calling .move() on a top level windows does nothing and when you try to get the window position you get (0, 0).
