isnt it interesting how even all of the multi-trillion dollar companies are NOT ALLOWED to skip the cloudflare step in the connection chain in case cloudflare doesnt work? you HAVE to be locked into the system and can't just have any information being exchanged without them in the middle to do so for you.
Any site without it gets gaped by crawlers and bots.

sometime in 2025 i started getting obliterated by scrapers. hundreds of thousands of requests per hour. tens of millions per month. the only way to survive on my budget is to use some edge mitigation like cloudflare or fastly. ai has made it nearly impossible to run a website with a large number of pages without it.

>>107248335The cloudfags slow connections down to modem speed. Check the box to prove you're a faggot. Then when a server crashes 25 percent of the net crashes. I don't see why people use their shit. It's very shoddy at best.
>>107251147Back in modem days, I didn't need to come back to a website loading being interrupted by a checkmark asking me to press it again after like a minute of senseless waiting.
Cloudflare is extremely overkill if you aren't serving international clients. The vast majority of sites are only really serving North America and Europe 99% of the time, they can make do without Cloudflare or even a caching solution in general. Furthermore if you are providing services internationally (i.e. Twitter) you can probably afford to roll out your own caching solution. Cloudflare only exists because developers are fucking lazy and/or cheap, plus the somewhat plausible conspiracy theory that Cloudflare themselves DDOS non-Cloudflare sites to force them into their model out of desperation.
>>107251147Cloudflare increases connection speeds because they are serving clients from local caches isntead of a single server that might be located on another continent.
>>107248732I noticed this too. My conclusion is everyone wants data for their LLMs to reference and cite as a source.robots.txt is not enough. Most bots don't respect itThen there's bots who enumerate every PHP and word press endpoint need to be stopped too. I'm surprised Clpudflare doesn't have a simple BLOCK PHP FAGS switch. I resorted to blocking any request with "php" in the url. Ditto for "wp-". I also have a huge list of other firewall rules just to reduce the number of requests to my server. I figure it blocks 1k requests per day.The ssh bots I've observed check usernames like Zhang, ubuntu, etc.I'm curious, for those that use fail2ban, how huge is your iptables f2b chain?
>>107248676You could just abandon them and go back to your normal nameservers any time you want if they're legit useless and shit... Now they use Rust it's shit. If this happens again, due to Rust of course, I'll be doing that myself.
>>107251427The only thing robots.txt does is direct the good search engines to your content and your sitemap or whatever. it helps them not waste their time. obviously scrapers just ignore it
>>107251427for SSH you can try listening on a different port. better yet block all public ssh and use wireguard as it doesn't respond to bogus requests
>>107252053>obviously scrapers just ignore itThat's why you jeets are so fucking mindnumbingly tiresome to me.All you have to do is add a dummy URL to your pages, scrapers can get blocked in few requests.
>>107252106yea? what happens when you block a legitimate crawler or an ai that's browsing correctly? asking a real question because my apartment smells like poop
>>107252004good luck retard
>>107252129Browsing correctly would include reading robots.txt and not touching the bait.I literally couldn't care less if you scrape what's listed in robots.txt, so it's your own fault, troglodyte.
>>107252140What do you mean "good luck". Do you run a website? It's the most trivial thing of all time, it's close to being a checkbox level of trivial... If Rust keeps causing Cloudflare to go down I'll be losing more customers than it's worth by far.
>>107252160ive noticed googlebot touching lots of things not in the robots.txt. i don't know if it evaluates the robots before or after the requests are made. ive observed what looks like the googlebot having different versions of the robots.txt. mostly I'm looking at this because I've been having search indexing problems
>>107252198I missed the part where that's my problem.
>>107248350And then i blocked Cloudflare's ASNs and 90% of the bots and DDoS attempts disappeared. You only need to purchase protection from them if you're too dumb to see the racket.
>>107252233you block cloudflare and your bot scrapers stop hitting you? shukriya yaar, appreciate it
>>107252191achha thanks yaar, bohot meherbani
>>107252083I should do that... maybe not when I'm away from home visiting no man's land and I need redundancy. But when I'm around my server, good idea>>107252106neat idea... I imagine some creepy shit happening with that though. Say there is a forum that employs that. User A posts an obfuscated link to /autobanned_for_visiting. Now User B clicks on it, and a iptable rule is created, blocking them. Not a nice ux.
>>107252191what firewall/ddos/cdn/balancer/server stack would you use without cloudflare and rust?
judenflare
>>107248732You can just self-host Anubis. Codeberg manages with it and said it excluded the vast majority of scrapers giving them trouble. Huawei networks didn't but they rewrote their config and managed to exclude them.
I loaded a "bad IPs" table into my OpenBSD server's firewall (pf) and it said it couldn't allocate memory.>>107252233For real? My main issues with the bots; I'm too much of a nobody for my site to be worth DDoS-ing so I'm avoiding Cloudflare as long as I can.
>>107252327I'm not a jeet, so if I was running a forum, trying to post such urls would result in autobanning of the user instead.
>>107252352None. It will just be on default nameservers. Literally nothing happens... I retired from my web businesses that have been up for a decade on ClickBank... I use CloudFlare for CACHING i.e. load speed only, because low load time increases sales.Chinese hackers easily send attacks anyway, if there's a vulnerability in a high profile site they are going to get in with or without CloudFlare. I had to sign up to SiteGuarding for actual protection from attacks because WITH CloudFlare, Chinamen were changing checkout links to their PayPal link and stealing hundreds of dollars per day.CloudFlare is worthless.
>>107251327Buy an ad here. I know bettter.
>>107252492>changing checkout links to their PayPal linkhow did they achieve this on your website?
>>107252726I don't know at all, I don't care, I'm never going to find out the specific thing being exploited (Sucuri couldn't find it either), but I suspect various points: the Indian-made membership app (DigitalAccessPass, one of the most widely used membership programs with features I needed and pricing plans not antithetical to my needs. I was always wary of them due to being Indians), which I replaced for a non-Indian solution... The creator Veena yelled at me many times EXACTLY like Kitboga videos because I said her program was causing the repeated breaches, which some of the web host team speculated... And aside from that, Invision forum software.Or even something in WordPress, the theme I used, nobody knows or ever found out. Probably numerous points of attack that the security firms I hired and my web host etc. couldn't find.CloudFlare does NOTHING. I didn't even realize people thought of it as a real security solution. Real threats are Ching Chong Chinamen professional hackers who can bypass CloudFlare in nanoseconds. SiteGuarding stopped all attacks completely, not one single breach in maybe 4 years since I subscribed for their service. They don't know how or why it was happening but their firewalls and whatever shit, stopped the attacks.
>>107252970that's a lot of "I don't know, but I hate Indians". It's hard to take you seriously. Nobody talented at my work or in the public domain says or acts like this, and I'd be surprised if they dide
>>107253467Racist prejudice worked though. I retired with two houses no mortgage. If I was hiring someone to work for me the order of preference was like white Euro/Italian/nordic > Israeli/Japanese > Middle Eastern > Korean > Indian > Chinese.I'm missing a lot from the list like Brazilians, etc, I can't do an exhaustive list, but Indian and Chinese are least trusted. Only thing worse would be literal African like someone in Nigeria.
>>107253696Why don't you trust a Chinese person with tech? Assuming they were born in America or Canada. And assuming they were born in China and moved here. Is there a difference?I have opinions on this, but I'd like to hear yours before sharing
>>107248335not really they want control of the bottle neck so sites they don't like can be ddos'd to death
>>107253995source: 4channel.org/g
>>107253803Yes a big difference, if they don't have an accent. The thing is, if you look at DigitalAccessPass tutorials, the woman speaks and she sounds like someone at a call center. My web host had a guy tell me he has investigated and thinks her membership plugin has terrible security and has seen issues with it before. So I opened a support ticket with her, sending her my web host's findings, and she went full "Indian": Deny responsibility, gaslight, delusional sense of competency.I moved off of it to another membership plugin, signed up to that other service I mentioned (SiteGuarding) and there have now been zero breaches. So who knows ultimately, because it could be that the security company is just amazing and their firewalls etc are just elite (way better than Sucuri for sure) and that is really why.It could be that the plugin really was vulnerable but only ONE of various vulnerabilities. I'll never really know. Sucuri wouldn't bother, they're a useless company and nobody should ever use them: They do "fixes" and NOT "diagnostics", so they just patch a hole up then the attacker instantly smashes back through it at will. Sucuri is basically a scam, if anyone ever needs this sort of information. I was a ClickBank platinum vendor on the first two pages, so exposed to a LOT of high level hackers.
>>107248380He disabled registration due to thousands of bot registrations
