How long can we expect AM5 to last? AM4>2017 - Zen 1>2019 - Zen 2>2020 - Zen 3AM5>2022 - Zen 4>2024 - Zen 5>2026 - Zen 6
wasn't zen 7 confirmed to be on am5?
AMD is the Mozilla of chip design DEI ceo being the cherry on top
>>107253798I don't know but I just wish they released 1 that's suitable for my needs. Phoenix would be close but it has gimped PCIE slots and the heat spreader is not soldered. So I either have to use a CPU that's gimped at expansions and heat dissipation, or I have to use a CPU that has a shit memory controller and is gimped on idle power (7000 and 9000 CPUs have twice the idle power drain because of the chiplets).Strix/Kraken point will have the same issues as well. If they at least solder the heatspreader on, so it won't jump to 60C whenever I move the cursor, I'll consider it.
>>107253798Here I am, still using a phenom ii x6 1090t on an AM3 socket.
>>107253798Past performance doesn't necessarily guarantee future trends, but AMD tends to switch sockets when going to a new DRAM generation.
My 5950x died this year
I have no interest in building a machine that has anything less than DDR6 so hopefully we can get that out instead of a new arbitrary cpu generation
>>107254037Asians aren't DEI hires tho. They get discriminated against harder than whites.
>>107254454And I thought I was behind, still being on am4 with my 5800x. Whats wrong with you?
>>107253798im still running 5800x3d on am4 and have zero complaints
>>107257629I don't play games very much and the ones I do are what the kids would call unc game like 'Golf with Friends'. My GPU is a bit newer (RX 570) but overall the system does everything I need it to do so why spend money on an unnecessary upgrade. As a bonus, it doesn't have a couple of the instructions required for Windows 11 so there's no risk of Microsoft "accidentally" updating my system one day.Maybe if I were doing a lot of virtualization and needed it to support more ram, it would be worth updating but most of what I do is data analysis for real estate (stuff like predicting which neighborhoods are going to get "diversity" soon). If a large dataset takes ten minutes to process instead of six minutes, that's not a big deal because these aren't analyses that I do constantly all day. Getting the data, determining how to process it, and what clients want out of it is 95% of the effort. Running the code is the last 5%.
>>107253798AM4 (Zen 1,2,3, X3D)>2016 - 2022, still competitive in 2026AM5 (Zen 4, 5, 6, 7, Dual X3D)> 2022 - 2028, still competitive in 2032
I'm staying within the boundaries of Zen 1 through 3 because I don't want TPM up my ass.
>>107259660>My GPU is a bit newer (RX 570)
The only issue with older hardware is Microsoft has been on a warpath to basically make windows non-installable on anything before zen 2.So you're either running linux or a highly exploitable version of windows.
>>107253798Will Zen 6 have the same fucking abysmal IMC?
>>107257542nshitia shitel ayymd all chink CEOs the rest are jeets or jews nowhere do you see whites at management despite all those firms being in whiteman's land
>>107253798I'm still on Zen 2...
>>107253939no, only zen 6.unless, amd does yet another AM2+ style socket
>>107253798i can't wait for that medusa halo with high ram bandwidth
90xx series cpus being so minor upgrade over 70xx doesnt bode well for am5 longevitysure they had tsmc figure out how to put the x3d under the ccd which helped clocks, but games arent that cpu bound usually that it would even matter. You need to do 1080p benches to see average fps change vs 7800x3d and 9800x3d, then people play at 4k and would literally never experience a difference between the cpus.9950 is about 5% better than 7950 in productivity workloadThat would suggest amd needs to do a socket change that enables them to stuff in more power, more lanes or whatever.
>>107253939Since DDR6 will be lining up with around the time that Zen7 happens, that will be the death of AM5
>>107257319what's DDR6 gonna do?it's like a 5% performance increase
>>107261452On really high bandwidth requirement tasks, the jump from DDR4 to 5 was huge. This is basically AI work done on the CPU, and supporting an integrated GPU. For most tasks though, it will be modest gains.
>>107254454Based. I upgraded my R5 1600 earlier this year.Still using my r9 fury, though. Runs dota fine.
>>107253798I don't know and I don't care. I will treasure my Ryzen 5 1600 until the end of time.
>>107255677cpus don't diewhat the fuck did you mean by this
AM4 was launched in 2016 with Excavator.
>>107253798AM4 = the GOAT.
AM5 is a disaster, AMD needs to beat up all of their motherboard vendors>X670EBIOS issues>X870EBoards literally killing CPUsWhen Intel was at their peak, none of this shit happened and board manufacturers were scared of themNow that AMD is in charge, board manufacturers don't even test their boards anymore and just keep shitting out useless features
>>107260705Newer than the Phenom II.
>>107265022Nobody ever mentions this the boards are a total mess no matter how good the CPUs may be at gaming.
>>107253798Why would you want to stay on the same platform for multiple generations instead of getting access to the latest innovation?I'm rich.>>107265022Running your CPU at stock motherboard settings is for retards. When people say their shit is dying I call them a retard instead of blaming AMD or Intel. Skill issue, etc.
>>107254037>DEI ceoSu is a chink and chinks are a damn competent bunch.>>107260935>>107261407I wonder how long until the signal integrity ceiling is hit on DIMMs and I seem to gather DDR5 is not far from it? AM5 might last longer if DDR6 doesn't come around soon.>>107262291>>107262308My 1600 fucking died after 5 years. It began slowly dying after 4.5. I think it's the IMC. I blamed everything else cause "CPUs don't die" till it did died. Mobo gave memory error.>>107264954Huh, you're not wrong on that. But only OEMs got it, it hit retail at the same time as the first Zen chips.
>>107253798Bought an AM4 setup on release, have no reason to upgrade só far, I seriously can't even imagine what kind of end user workload would realistically require a 9800x3d or superior CPU. I think AM4 can still be relevant for another 5 years, AM5 probably 10 to 15 years.
>>107253798mommy don't eat that!!
>>107253798there's no reason to go beyond am4 yet
