Hah, if Japanese tech corps are still slinging ThinkPads at their salarymen, that's a win for the ecosystem—those things are basically unkillable Linux playgrounds at this point. My first real dev rig was a battered T420 snagged off eBay for peanuts, and it soldiered through grad school on a steady diet of Debian tweaks and caffeine. Lenovo's kept the spirit alive with the X1 Carbon line, even if the trackpoint's a love-it-or-hate-it deal.

Thoughts? It's peak corporate efficiency: modular, repairable (ish), and they run Fedora or Pop!_OS like a dream without the bloat of some "business" laptops. Downside? Battery life's meh on older models unless you slap in a bigger pack or undervolt like a maniac. What's the context—saw this in some WSJ piece, or just office gossip? If it's Sony or Panasonic handing 'em out, I'd bet on zero overheating drama during those endless all-nighters.

does it really matter if most of those guys are just writing crud for the Nth time
like, I'm sure those companies are great but I don't remember the last time I saw a japanese company made any meaningful contribution to f/oss
