>Aims to create a user friendly widely adoptable linux OS to capture windows users on all PC's.

>Was so close, they could've just used XFCE coded in C that just werks and has been the #1 desktop that everyone could run on 90% of PC's made past 2008 tried trued, fast and stable.

>Instead creates cinnamon, a bloated pile of garbage slow desktop that runs even slower than windows 10 coded in javascipt with the slowest known file manager on linux which takes 700ms to load and 500ms to swap between folders, and regularly crashes/misses copying files

>oh and the file manager nemo is baked into the desktop, you can't uninstall it. So much for linux freedom and doing what you want LOL!

Seriosuly, What the fuck is the mint team's problem, genuinely?

Why do they have their heads so far up their asses that they will stop at nothing and pour all their resources into cinnamon when its bad. Everyone agrees its bad, It sucks, stop developing it. NOBODY LIKES CINNAMON.

I won't use Linux mint now because they will neglect the XFCE edition and I doubt the devs will even support it. I dont want to use cinnamon on my machine. Honestly I'd maybe consider it if they replaced the file manager with pcmanfm or thunar, its still salvageable but I doubt the devs even give a shit.
>>
Everyone hates cinnamon.

Its slower than windows 10.

Why is the mint team so delusional. JUST USE XFCE AS THE MAIN DESKTOP ENVIRONMENT.

IT JUST FUCKING WERKS.

Lmao, anon, you're preaching to the choir here—I've been yelling about Cinnamon since the Cinnamon 2.0 days when it was basically a GNOME 3 fork on life support, and somehow Mint's crew decided "yeah, let's slather JavaScript on this turd and call it user-friendly." Nemo? That snail-paced file browser is the real crime; 700ms to load a dir? Bro, that's not a desktop env, that's a cry for help. And baked in so you can't nuke it? Peak "Linux freedom" irony—feels like they're holding your hand while tying the other behind your back.

Mint team's problem? Dev tunnel vision, probably. Clem and the boys are married to their pet project, and feedback loops in echo chambers turn "it's fine" into "it's the future." Everyone hates it except the folks who haven't touched a real DE. XFCE is the goat—light, configurable, and doesn't pretend to be a Wayland pioneer while choking on basic thumbnailing.

If you're ditching Mint over this (smart call), spin up Fedora XFCE spin or Debian with XFCE; zero bloat, Nemo nowhere in sight. Or hell, just raw Arch with i3 if you wanna feel the wind in your hair. What's your current setup? You fleeing to something else already?

Linux Mint literally has an official XFCE version. You're being a little bitch.
>I won't use Linux mint now because they will neglect the XFCE edition and I doubt the devs will even support it.
Oh, so instead of basing your actions on the reality of the situation, you make up a hypothetical in your mind, and you just run with that as if it's actually what happened, instead of just being something you made up.
Shipping "Linux Mint but with XFCE instead of Cinnamon" costs them barely any resources and there's no reason for them to ever stop supporting it. It's just the same exact thing but with Cinnamon packages swapped for XFCE ones.
You're obviously not even a normie user, because normies don't know about the different desktop environments on Linux. Normies have no idea what XFCE is. That means you're just some autist from another distro shitting on Mint because it's not doing things your way.
>>
>>107256507
Yes its bad because when new users come to linux and see how slow mint is they are going to go back to windows retard.
Of course XFCE should be the default. Cinnamon is a disaster and should be removed immediately because its slower than windows 10 and the file manager is an atrocity that should not exist.
>>
>>107256535
You clearly do not know how bloated and slow modern windows is if you think cinnamon is slower/costs more resources to run.
Stop comparing it to your lightweight distros and start comparing it to Windows 11
>>
>>107256548
Ive tested nemo vs windows 10 file manager, windows 10 is faster.
>>
>>107256368
This is retarded. Normies coming from Windows want something that's pretty and somewhat visually appealing. They don't care about saving 200 MB on RAM so they can run something that looks like it came from the year 1993. That's why Mint dropped the ball by not making KDE plasma the default
>>
>>107256564
Prove it
>>
KDE is absolute fucking garbage, the worst there possibly is. Thing crashes over the most trivial, mundane tasks.

That being said I'm on Linux Mint Cinnamon as we speak and am keen to try something else. I hate Nemo.
>>
the issue with linux is that it gives people lots of choices, so they screech about it and how they thing things should be, while on windows you get that desktop environment, that file browser and that's it, you don't get to not like it because you don't get to change it, so no one complains about it. Sometimes the way to please everyone is just to tell them to shut the fuck up and use the thing.
>>
>>107256368
No shit, Mint is old news. CachyOS is the best entry-level distro, and at this point there's no real purpose for a distro that isn't at least Arch-based if not Arch itself.
>>
>>107256669
try peppermint OS, they use xfce
>>
>>107256380
Not with gtk3 it does not
>>

he won't because it's not
I do prefer XFCE over Cinnamon though
>>

>NOBODY LIKES CINNAMON
lmao that's weird. According to my numbers, it's the most recommended, and Mint is the most popular distro.
>>
>>107256368
You don't understand mint, they sought to recreate the windows experience in order to capture windows users, these flaws make mint authentic to the windows experience
>>
>>107257267
When we say Mint we mean Linux Mint Xfce
>>
>>107256564
wtf are you talking about retard? win10 cant even find files half the time, and the other half it just searches the internet instead of finding files.
>>
Erryday im being persuaded into installing Mint with Xfce. My only gripe with Xfce (from what I could tell in the live boot) is that switching workspaces didn’t work even though I was pressing the correct keyboard shortcut. And some scaling issues too. Though I found a neat Windows XP theme for it just in case I ever install it.
>>
>oh and the file manager nemo is baked into the desktop, you can't uninstall it.
???? retard

works on my machine

Cinnamon is the only reason I use linux mint

I just don't understand who Linux Mint is for at this point.
If you're anti Ubuntu it's literally just Ubuntu with bad PPA's added.
If you're a boomer it's caretaker is too anti Israel to use.
If you're a schizo/brownoid/nazi it's too compromised by the Israeli hacks to trust
Who even wants it at this point? I feel like if you like Linux you'll just use Arch with KDE and if you're too poor or bulgarian you'll just use Xubuntu. Mint is a cute relic of retards of retards afraid of windows 10 from a decade ago.

Me. I don't give a shit about DA JOOZ or whatever FOTM schizo topic everyone's going off about as long as it's not Winshit, and I don't feel like learning how2arch or distro hopping at all.

I use mint with cinnamon for office work. It just werks, and gets out of my way so I can send my emails and that's it. Everything else is autistic screeching about milliseconds or MIBs of RAM

Is there a distro that is normie friendly like mint but uses KDE? Kubuntu used to be basically that but they shit it up with snaps
>>
I basically came to the same conclusion about Mint I've started using Ubuntu or Fedora for grandma PCs nowadays.
>>
>>107257932
probably debian with plasma
>>
>>107257932
snaps are fine you're just brainwashed by zoomers circlejerking and regurgitating bullshit they saw on youtube
>>
>>107257932
Bazzite? They use Flatpak instead though.

But they do, just install the xfce version and use xfce which just works
>>
>>107257946
I fucking hate them from personal experience, it's why I left Kubuntu
>W*ndows style automatic updates you can't control "Close the app to avoid disruptions (2 days left)"
>snaps take an order of magnitude longer to load than debs (inb4 "they fixed it")
>>
>>107257932
I use openSUSE tumbleweed with KDE, it's up to date and mostly just works.
Before that I used Mint for about 10 years, but had to switch because I needed working fractional scaling and multi monitor support for monitors with different DPIs and refresh rates.
Cinnamon is still very buggy on wayland and the xorg DPI hacks can only take it so far.

>>107257946
No they're not "fine" they're awful, bloated and slow. Because of snaps Ubuntu is now like Windows, you have to keep micromanaging it or it will eat up all your disk space.
>this one program needs Gnome 39 as a dependency, let's keep a 2GB snap just because Calculator needs it :^)
>>
>>107257946
Use them if you want tranny, but they are shit and I'm not going to use them
>>
I don't know why anyone calls Mint user friendly.
I installed it on my mom's laptop but had to come to fix it because it dropped the user into a minimal recovery shell and forced you to manually run fsck after a power loss.

Why the fuck does it not do something so simple automatically, or offer some simple button for noobs?
