LOL video games have been in a bad state for a very long time. You were just stupid back then and didn't notice. A lot of console games ran at sub-30 framerates at abysmal resolutions. UE3 games had texture streaming pop-in like crazy, and specular shading that gave them all the same "unreal look". People act like when Unity and later UE5 came around is when shit got bad but it had been bad only difference is you actually needed money to release one unlike today when you can just shit anything onto every storefront for a few hundred using an billion dollar engine practically for free.
