living with mom and dad into your 30s edition

>work experience
Congratulations! If you're in a situation that requires you to be here, you're probably best off working at McDonald's, Starbucks, or the local Indian or Chinese restaurant. Beats actual unemployment, as humbling as it is.

Definitely revise your resume so it's tailored more toward customer service, however.

>there's nothing in my metropolitan area!
Well now might be the chance to move to, idk, Mississippi or South Dakota. No tech jobs there, but plenty of retail and service I guess. Or health if you take the nursing pill.

>resources
Y'all know the drill. Leetcode neetcode etc.

TL;DR
>companies already have a set range for your pay
>don't say a number and lowball yourself
>for the largest companies (fagman) it doesn't matter what you say, they set your salary based on tiers and you can go fuck yourself if you don't like it (you will, don't bother negotiating)
>interviewers 99% of the time wont walk away because you refuse to say a salary
>you can only hurt yourself by saying your number

>emigration
Consider moving to China, Taiwan, or SE Asia if you're ethnically Chinese

>pivoting
Maybe consider this too. Idk the details.

Shut the fuck up. Nobody here is unemployed because they can't find a job, they actively choose to be unemployed because their standards (salary, job title, seniority) far surpass their real world experience, performance, and productivity. Shut the fuck up. Take the 50k position instead of crying about how you didn't get to take Google's dick in your ass for 300k. Shut the fuck up

Being a new grad should be a positive for employment, not a negative. Zoomers (You) are retarded and think they deserve 300k with no experience or practical skills. Swallow your ill-gotten pride and take the 50k grunt position and work towards that 300k in 10 years. SHUT THE FUCK UP.

There are a few yt channels that teach the basics but they go really fast and don't explain how they're navigating the ui. Mainframe programmers are in a totally different league and a dying breed. For someone born after 2000, it's a completely alien computing model. I wouldn't even know where to begin. I think you can get open source emulators to toy with and I suppose read IBM docs.

I applied for a management job with a company I actually genuinely give a shit about (I used to work there and had an extremely good experience, even made work friends and was on really good standing with the CEO), and it's been rough. The worst thing about going after a job you really care about is the emotional rollercoaster that comes with it, constantly wondering if they already made the choice and just ghosted you like a bitchy ex-girlfriend or if you're just being impatient and that circumstances are making it take longer than you probably think it should. I mean, I put in my application a month and a half ago, but I also know it's the end of the year and the company is also hiring for a new CFO, so shit is probably pretty slow goings. It's just hard to keep the stress down, is all.

>Step 1: Find a company you want to work at and find out who the CEO is.
>Step 2: Without getting caught, spend a few days stalking the CEO, finding out where they live and who their kids/grandkids are.
>Step 3: Once you have identified what children are related to them (the younger the better), find your local homeless community and find one willing to work for you (you can try your local Craigslist as well).
>Step 4: Using the data you collected, have said homeless person abduct the CEO's children/grandchildren, then allow the situation to turn into a stressful crisis for the CEO (1-2 days ought to do it). Don't worry about the homeless person, this act will get them landed in jail, which means consistent food and shelter.
>Step 5: "Apprehend" the homeless person and "save" the kid(s) by calling the police and making a big show of how you noticed the kids were struggling and needed help, make up a convincing story.
>Step 6: The CEO will learn of your involvement, and will be immensely grateful - make sure they know your name. If you have a business card, now is the time to give it to them.
>Step 7: Go back to the company website and apply for whatever job you want - make sure you mention you saved the CEO's family in the application (if the app only allows a resume and cover letter, make sure you mention it in the cover letter).
Works every time.

I wouldn't volunteer this information anymore. Having young children means time off work. I think the cultural sympathy for the family man is fading with every passing year as birth rate dips further below replacement.

I was laid off a year after my first kid was born because my performance was "slipping". It was, because I was getting up at fucking 3am with a crying teething baby. Working for my company with loyalty and enthusiasm for 7 years meant nothing in the face of metrics. Canned

I tried to take off two weeks from a year contract when my second was born, and they canned me my first day out.

I think companies used to think of hiring someone with a family as a net positive because he's got a lot to lose, but H1Bs and silicon valley larpers are actually way easier to push into indentured servitude with less cost

Can someone explain why LEETCODE is something you're supposed to spend 8 hours a day practicing when AI exists?
>>
>>107277879
leetcode is about efficient problem solving, understanding complex algorithms, and effective usage of data structures.
The reason AI is good at leetcode is because the solutions are already on the internet and it can scan the solutions. Not because it's fundamentally good at programming or understands memory allocation and low level development.

Interviewers are looking to see how well you understand data structures, algorithms, how you solve problems, how efficient you are at implementing code, and how deeply you understand what you're coding. They want to see that you can not only solve an abstract problem, but that you can explain what every single line in your code does.

It's easy to say that leetcode is retarded and that AI can do it, but what exactly is supposed to replace it? It's a perfect medium for judging a candidate's technical competency (assuming they aren't cheating).
If you can sort N linked lists and find the Kth element in O(nlogn) time, you can make a wordpress website.
>>
>>107277964
>Not because it's fundamentally good at programming or understands memory allocation and low level development.
and just to add to that, the fact that AI continuously fucks up in real world vibe coding scenarios (telling it to design a UI or fix bugs in your code) but gets leetcode problems right with 100% accuracy further backs up my statement.

Just yesterday I asked chatGPT why I couldn't import a package into my workspace despite having the dependency downloaded, registered in the IDE, and shown in the project folder. It told me "just remove the import line, you haven't used the package anyways!"
But I can ask it to solve leetcode 39 (sudoku solver) and it shits out a perfect solution with optimal time complexity.
>>
>>107277964
I'd argue it doesn't judge useful competency post deepseek. In fact a leetcoder is worse than someone who draws arkitektur and generates the boilerplate leetcode.
>>
>>107278036
We need to replace leetcode with software architect problems. We should go back to pen and paper like the mathematicians. Calculating really fast used to be cool back during newtons time and then calculators made that field of maths redundant.
Installing a package correctly is a overall Structural problem rather than some tiny order or data structure problem.
>>
The worst part of this economy is I'd like to help others by mentioning companies that are still hiring/have applied for zero/very low amount of work visas but until I get hired somewhere it's not in my best interest to let people know.
