WHY THE FUCK DOES 4CHAN NOT LET YOU POST .WEBP IMAGES? AND WHY THE FUCK DOES THE REST OF THE INTERNET INSIST ON USING THEM?I'm fucking sick and tired of having to go into paint to re-save .webp images as .png just to post them here. Why is 4chan so far behind the rest of the internet, and simultaneously why does the rest of the internet insist on using this gay format?
>site gets hacked due to vulnerability in PDF uploads from 2014 software>site can't handle people hiding data in image uploads or filenames>site can't handle people posting from proxies, even with cloudflare and double captcha protectionDo you really think they would risk even more potential for vulnerability by supporting more file formats for basically no benefit when real anons don't even post anymore after anti-bot measures made the site nearly unusable?
>>107273220>site can't handle people hiding data in image uploadsI was here when Lithursday threads on /b/ got shut down once people realized they could hide more than just ebooks in JPEG/PNG, and the code monkeys had to write parsers finding non-image data in each format. It's the reason some JPEGs still return that stupid "XML detected" error here.I hate .webp but I also remember people in newsgroups shitting the bed over JPEG because their newsreader software wouldn't decode anything newer than GIF. JPEG was never, ever designed to be compact and the math behind its compression was designed for cacheless CPUs barely in the MHz range. The reason it's not supported here is because the only code updates to 4chan happened after the April attacks and I sorely doubt RA is any more diligent about new standards than moot was. They fucking laughed when I asked why thumbnails for PNG images couldn't be PNG and retain the transparency, chew on that.
>>107273102webp is solving a problem that doesnt exist anymore. everyone has fast internet, everyone has tons of storage. webp would have been great back in 1999. now it doesnt matter but some faggots insist on pushing it cuz reasons, which as mentioned, dont matter anymore.the only group it benefits is Big Tech who has tons of data to deal with. no benefit for consumers. but big tech faggots are happy to make consumers suffer so they can save 100kb on that latest meme you uploaded.
>>107273102>paintjust take screenshot instead anon
>>107273220>vulnerability in PDF uploads from 2014 softwareGhostscript is practically abandonware at this point despite it not having any open source successor and the real problem was that updating the version the site was using would trigger a cascade of dependency updates no one behind the wheel here was ready to cope with because NOTHING had been updated since moot left.>>107273339>everything go fast nowThat's great for formats that gzip or transmission compression also fix but media isn't one of them. Nothing got made irrelevant.
