I visited an alumni party of a consulting company I have worked for a couple years ago, recently.

My former colleagues, who started working 10-15 years before me were totally unimpressed by AI. Or told me outright, it is the losers that cannot find a job - the good programmers will always be needed.

I also thought, easy to say, when you have a payed off house worth a million and additional assets already. I have a family with two children and no plan B for when my current contract ends (soon).
>>
>>107331995
temporary of course. I don't give a fuck how they treat me as long as they pay me the same as I get now, which would be around 110 dollars per hour.

Companies don't need good programmers. They need slaves and yes-men to respond quickly to whatever nonsense the sector comes up with to make the fake number go up .
>>
>>107333300
Cold hard truth. Nobody gives a shit about clean or good or even performant code outside of FAGMAN edge cases where they need to optimize down to nanoseconds. Most of your job is basically dealing with bullshit and the only way to become irreplaceable is to make so write as much bad and convoluted code as possible so that the management needs you to clean it all up.

Good programmers are only needed when it's your own product and you write it yourself.

Is this middle school between the ages of 16-18? Odd use of the term but i get it. 2 years of IT experience in a bootcamp environment should set you up pretty well for the workforce. If any IT certs are respected in your country like Comptia or Cisco then i would work on getting what the job market deems are relevant by looking at the job postings. Other than that IT works off of the back of computer networks so Comptia Net+ and Cisco CCNA is what you should be studying even if you don't complete the certs.

Also what did they teach you at your IT school?

i am seriously fucking losing it bros. my only professional goal is to return to working in an office so my days can be filled with the sight of middlingly-attractive female coworkers walking around with visible panty lines. i literally don't care how much i get paid or if my boss is an asshole or anything like that. i need to see panty lines, ranging in intensity from "underwear seam discernible only in bright office lighting" to "ass cheeks so grotesquely indented by ill-fitting panties that there are five separate bitchy teams chats dedicated to mocking this woman's severe errors of fashion"

i'm pathetic. i know it. but i need panty lines. GIVE ME OFFICE MILF PANTY LINES NOW

>>107333393
I wish there was more of a culture of quality with actual standards instead of half assing everything quick. I've encountered too many programmers who either refuse to imrove, refuse to take any steps to guarantee long term quality, or in some cases are even proud that their works is a barely functioning dumpster fire. It makes us look like incompetent amateurs to anyone outside of the field.
>>
>>107333393
Your definition of a good programmer is pants on head retarded. A good programmer gets shit done, he doesn't max out DRY and Clean scores. A good programmer is one that helps the business profit. HR loves shit like Leetcode scores even though they have nothing to do with being a good programmer.
Companies need good programmers that are able to help the company produce profitable products and services. That's what the current hiring pipeline is unable to do. If you change the definition of good programmer to be some Gang of Four nonsense, then of course companies "don't need good programmers" but it's yet another nonsense statement.

I'm waiting for the AI bubble to crash at the moment. The market's not healthy. Even if you're of the opinion that AI is the future of coding, you can't trust any of the current players to be the future. They're spending so much money for little return, and I have my doubts about many of them surviving. The Internet was the future too, but you're not buying your dog food from pets.com no matter how people invested in it in the dot-com bubble era.

If you have the knack for programming then consider going into college for computer science, electrical engineering, computer engineering, or software engineering. Whatever they have available. Programming makes more money so the IT recommendation is really only if you want to work with server side applications in which case yes networking is the next step even if you don't do IT.

and yes i did, this a cubicle PC it does nothing but excel
it's taking 10 minutes to even boot. and yes i also checked the startup
the response times sometimes spikes to 100 ms
the RAM and CPU are doing relatively ok, only the HD is being the bottleneck
i could spend a whole fucking hours to reinstall the OS, but i'm 100% sure it would just get slightly faster. i tried multiple times in these old machines i usually work, it's the same pattern
and more importantly, they hire me to make the machine faster not to save whatever is stored. they don't get satisfied if they machine gets slightly faster. most times they simply discard the old HDD
i just want to talking with boomers

Nobody buys from pet.com but everybody buys from amazon.

What will crash is the 1 billion AI startups.

Most barbers work without a license then get it so they can get a pay bump. there's nothing man
you were supposed to have a family or a partner
you were never meant to get older on that consoom shit
>>
>>107349089
The worst part is pretending to like it.
>>
>>107349035
>I meant frontend-only roles are a dead end
For you
>>
>>107349089
i swear people are pretending to like modern games just to have something to talk about. gaming just isnt fun anymore. everything is about the same god damn thing ive been playing since i was a kid except somehow worse.

oh sweet dude a new battlefield with 5 tick servers, retarded spitball projectiles, and unstable fps on expensive hw? only 80 dollars? wow count me in bros.
>>
>>107349147
Yeah no shit that's why I switched to fullstack.
>>
>>107349147
what would happen if i gave you a backend ticket?
>>
>>107349181
Are you inviting anon to gay sex?
>>
>>107349192
it would be extremely delayed
>>
Every single full stack dev I've know had junior level when it comes to frontend and 99% of the times they're terrible at CSS.
>>
>>107349219
Everyone sucks at CSS unless your only job as a dev is to build small SPAs from scratch by yourself in which case your life sucks regardless.
>>
>>107349269
>Everyone sucks at CSS
Not me.
>>
>>107349269
>Everyone sucks at CSS
its a step up from coloring books
>>
>>107349219
>99% of the times they're terrible at CSS.
Point proven >>107349269
>>
how can you be terrible in frontend? just claude it

>"Hey man have you heard of" [dumb political theatre news]
>"I really like" [retarded politician]
>"God i really hate" [retarded politician]
>"Wow" [retarded political take on something]
>"Hecking climate change" [please just let us all live in pod and eat ze bugs]
>"Guess what dumb shit i am buying" [garbage product that contradicts any political or climate stance that they have]

All fucking day i have to hear doomerism and the only solution these people have is open borders, anti-natalism, suicide cult bullshit, consumerism and muh racism, fascism, sexism, nazism ect all fucking day. Please just release the calderas and hit us with a moon size meteor already. I will take a pole shift and nuclear war also.

my favorite thing to hear is political takes in the form of sarcastic reddit quips.

>oh but we cant let the poors have healthcare like civilized countries do!

people will say stuff like this over and over and if anyone attempts to discuss or dispute it, the person will go completely rabid. i havent seen this at work but ive sen it irl a couple times.
>>
>>107349760
I have tried to counter with a handful of things in regards to housing, work and medical care but apparently being anti immigration is against the reddit math. I do find it funny they talk about unions but unions hate the work visa program, legal immigration and illegal immigration that tends to shut them up for a bit but then they counter that those blue collar unions(most are you retarded redditor) are redneck hicks and deserve to lose there jobs to illegals who work harder than them.

Same goes with minimum wage needs to be increased. I say why bother if i was a business owner i would just pay 20 burritos to work under the table for 5$ an hour but ofc that isn't slave labor. Pure mental gymnastics for the updoots.
>>
>mfw I have my coworker on steam and he's playing five hearts under one house during work hours
do I call him out on it just to rib on him? he knows im playing during work time too.
>>
>>107349089
>try to get a conversation about books going
>absolute silence
Last time I went to the office I just blasted black metal to make sure that at least I wasn't the only one not enjoying being there.
>>
>>107349810
My coworkers are mostly left-wing/greens but everyone knows better than to discuss political topics.
>>
>>107349825
>>have my coworker on steam
>letting coworkers into your private life
retard
>>
>>107349869
eh he's cool. a little weird though. idk man if you're going to be this secretive against everyone you're gonna end up with no friends :(

God i wish. The climate change shit gets me the most none of these people have principles. None of these people donate food to charity drives that we have at work (we have 3 every year and i donate 200$ worth of food every time making up 2/3rd the content).

These people just want to virtue signal and larp as communists.
>>
>>107349876
never had friends to begin with
last time a coworker floated the idea of "sharing our steams" i'm pretty sure he was gonna try to dig on my online presence that sneaky evil backstabbing fucker, never gonna let that happen

One of my favorite greentexts about this.
Anon's office starts small talk about the number of sexual partners the coworkers have.
Autistic anon had 6 hot exes (sexually failed upwards).
Some retarded Karen says "Paying for it doesn't count, anon"
> Cousins don't count either, Sharon
Anon gets sent to the HR office, Karen gets traumatized

Fuck, 4chan sucks, but every now and then, there are glimmers of hope.

>talking about sex or politics in the office
One way ticket to get yourself fired lmao. This is only fine if you work in some dead end job nobody cares about
>>
>>107349988
Fine for medical or government jobs. Regular civilian jobs are way to stuffy.
>>
>>107348411
I'm in the same situation with changing roles from backend to Data or ML/AI. The latter ones have more future, but I for sure can't afford lowering my wage due to lack of experience.
>>
i got nothing to do
nothing to look forward to
just work -> stare at screen while listening to music -> go to bed
are drugs the answer?

Yes, as I said dead end jobs nobody cares about

Probably have to move somewhere else to get a bump. To advance your career you generally become more specialized like cloud security, AI security, infrastructure, etc.
