Budget: 200 eur and below (ignoring shipping)
Location: Ireland
Preferred switch type: linear or tactile, no preference beyond that
Layout: ISO UK QWERTY
Form factor: 100% and it doesn't need to be compressed
Backlight: so long as each key is "lit" so I can type in low light environments, I don't really care.

wanted to buy a V6, but they're only in ES or DE layouts from Keychron, the rest are sold out in Europe

yeah right, INA823 or similar, they are integrated instrumentation amplifiers, they fit the job. not sure how to use them with the MUX, as you want as few as possible.
what do you want to achieve tho, do you want lowest possible power? or don't care about power and how many extra parts, you just want to use TMR sensors and that's that? what is your goal?

>Backlight: not a priority but a nice to have

Thought about getting a Keychron. Went to MicroCenter to try the keycaps but they were to smooth - can't imagine anyone using them, they are too slippery. Want something more matte, textured. Even K120's keycaps are more ergonomic and it's a $7 kb. inb4: You can change the keycaps. Ok.
Other than that, Keychron seems great. Maybe even a cheap K series would be fine.

I fell for the keychron meme, and here I am 4 months later waking up with my board not working as intended.

Keychron Keychron V6 Max on linux, I've plugged it into every usb port I could, my older GMMK1 is working flawlessly still... but the keychron even after doing the fn+j+z (or whatever combination to reset it) it's still not working. It lights up, but what happens is if I press any key there's a green blinking light under the 4 instead of the input being sent. I am always 100% of the time wired fwiw.

Was working perfectly fine last night. What's up with this thing? Anyone experience this before?

MX tho, it is beautiful that you can make this work without even needing a microcontroller, and that the pcb design is so simple a 12 year old can make it.

TMR feels like you are emulating a keyboard through firmware, while HE and MX are actual engineering.

oh my god man its beautiful, how do you make these things so fast, sorry I didn't see this sooner the thread saged. Give me some time to wrap my head around your design, but trust me its pinned to my wall with the description as a sort of ideal to shoot for.

I'm beginning the first phases of a basic TMUX + 3 tmr2083s keyboard, this will have a teensy 4.1 connected to two TMUXs that each have 3 TMR2083s connected to them. They don't have an op-amp so the resolution is awful, only like 40 steps, but it will be a good way to test until I have the amp figured out. TMUX is actually insanely small, its not really a problem for me since I have a 10x camera, but still lol, look how tiny those pins are, my 34 awg magnetic wire is barely small enough

listen anon, that Wheatstone bridge is not designed to be fed into ADC directly. you need to at least buffer it, if not amplify it.
you shouldn't even connect anything to it, that's not the point at this moment. the only thing you should have done is measure with DMM between V+/V- when switch is depressed and fully pressed, that's it. take those two data points.
ideally, power the sensor with 5V, not 3.3. measure with switch in rest position between GND and V+ (one half of the bridge), between GND and V-, and between V+ and V-. takes these three data points for switch unpressed and fully pressed.
based on the obtained data you design the PCB. connecting the micro to the TMR core makes no sense.
and yeah, HE is simpler to use, as they are fully integrated, they have the amplifier on die, but they are not as versatile in implementation

here's using INA integrated instrumentation amplifiers. I skipped the analog switches, those were for swapping polarity of the magnet in case you need it. I think that complicates things too much.
so for just the TMR core you'd need the amplifier and a way to scan the matrix. since you'd need one amplifier for each ADC you're better off scanning one column at a time, fast.
are the teensy ADC pins 5V tolerant?
also RG resistor is the gain resistor, for INA amplifier. no resistor = buffer (gain of 1). 100K (for INA823 or smth) measn gain of 2, and going lower increases the gain. you can adjust that resistor value based on your initial readings with just the sensor.
for example, if you measure 100mV between V+/V- when fully pressed, and you need 3V into ADC, then you need 30x amplification factor. so RG becomes ... something dunno. 3K or sum shit. look into teh datasheet for whatever you end up using

yes I know, I'm working on getting an amp setup in the meantime. This is what a quick press looks like. I know this is TRASH compared to what it can look like. I am listening to you and reading up on op-amps and the science behind them. Its going to take me a few days to catch up to all the stuff youve been saying.

this is more of just a proof of concept. The bridge DOES work even if very poorly. I have renewed hope in this project and will be studying amps and inus

you could use that tmux1308 but you'd need two of them, one for one half of the bridge, one for the other half of the bridge. so you can switch the full bridge into the INA amplifier. I'll think about it, ideally there's two channel switches, do you use one for four TMR sensors. like 4:1 two channel switches. if going this route you'd need 4 chips for a whole row.
just measure what I told you, first of all. considering picrel, get GND/X1 and GND/X2 and X1/X2 without the switch installed, should be 2.5V for both GND/X1 and X2, and should be 0V between X1/X2.
then install the switch and repeat these three measurements.
then press the switch fully and repeat these three measurements

it's not only easy to solder, I can also desolder that tssop16 package, with the soldering iron
>>
>>107343091
the bridge can only work poorly. if that's what you're getting from one half of the bridge, that's fucking amazing!
listen, that core isn't designed to output 3V on full press lmao. ALL such sensors are amplified to fit the ADC, you ideally want as much signal out of it before amplification, but I'd be amazed if getting 100mV out of it.
there's some strain gauges (still in wheatstone bridge) that barely move 1-2mV, and that signal is amplified as fuck into ADCs. and still works fine.
in this case, the TMR core should have low noise, and 30x-100x amplification should be nothing
so, explain that picrel, each half of the bridge into one teensy ADC input? do you measure 2.5V on each with no switch installed?
>>
>>107341920
Having bigger or higher keys sounds like a good idea. One thing about most ortho splits that I find suboptimal is that they often only use 1u keys. It's easier to build, but bigger keys are simply easier to hit, so the outer columns should use bigger keys. Just use 1.75u so you don't need stabilizers.
That being said, practicing touch typing is worth it imo. I was still typing with 6 fingers in August but I made good progress with 10 fingers since then, keybr helped the most.

I have the Logitech G515 Tactile keyboard and I hate it
https://www.logitechg.com/en-us/shop/p/g515-tkl-wireless-keyboard.920-012423

The keyboard I had prior to this one was the original Logitech G Pro keyboard which I believe had Romer keys (The G Pro has since been changed to GX Blue clicky switches). I typed so much better on that keyboard than this new G515. With this new G515, the keys are so easily pressed that I routinely press two buttons as once as I type. These keys are way too sensitive for me.

For someone whose heavy fingers move quickly but sometimes ever so slightly inaccurately, what kind of switch is good for me?

I have a Creality K1C which is pretty good, you can easily ssh into it to push it beyond its OOB capabilities. (Changing the max bed temp to print carbon filament or installing alternative Web UIs, for example). If you're willing to tinker a bit you can get great prints out of it.
I'd recommend printing bed shims and taking time to level the bed and getting a 0.2mm nozzle if you want to print keycaps. Also if your default extruder gets clogged it's a bit of a pain to open and fix but you can easily swap it for something better which will be my next upgrade, probably.
It's been working pretty flawlessly for me. Only minor issue I have is that Orca Slicer is a bit unstable outside of X sessions.

That's me and I prefer black switches but more importantly full size keycaps with cherry or similar profile so my fat fingers can slide along the diagonal sides of wrong keys without triggering them.

How can I solve this Bluetooth issue?
>sofle keyboard with nice nano
>keyboard has 5 different profiles that allows me to connect to multiple devices
>computer dual boots. One Linux one windows
>keyboard will only connect to one operating system. Will fail to connect to Linux if connected to Windows and vice versa
Is the solution having two Bluetooth dongles on my computer? I'm guessing my keyboard sees the one dongle and doesn't line having two profiles attached to if from different operating systems? Is there a way to bypass this?

>>
>>107344292
I was thinking these keyboards would make for a nice larger magnet field mapping, since they have 80-100 sensors. with some position tracking you could 3D map a magnet's field, in detail. would need a gyro or use the one in the phone, keep it fixed to the PCB while moving it around
>>
Ok so this is interesting. I checked Cherry's stat sheet for their MX switches, both MX1A and MX2A, and in both cases they say they are rated for anywhere from 10 microamperes to 10 milliamperes. Well out of four of my keyboards I just tested only one of them has current within that range through the switches:

Keychron V6 Max - 6 microamperes
Daring Run Flip 6P - 6 microamperes
Typface Monospace (solder pcb) - 5 microamperes
Cannonkeys Photon - 11 microamperes

Might desolder a switch from my other keyboard to give that a test too. Unless I'm measuring wrong (entirely possible lol) most keyboards seem to be out of spec...
>>
>>107350497
"Rated for" is probably just a CYA, and the switches will work outside of that range.

Quite possibly. Obviously the keyboards function normally right now, so of course they 'work'. But whether that has implications for lifespan when switches get a bit more worn out, I don't know. I'd certainly like to know more about how Cherry chose those numbers.

In a strict sense though it would still be true that the keyboards are operating outside of Cherry's published specs. (Again, if my measurements aren't wrong.)

what are the go-to tactiles these days? A few years ago I built a keyboard for the office with boba u4t silents swapped to 90g springs and these days im starting to like it more than my clicky board at home. I dont mind the u4t silents, but I would like more tactility. I'll probably be spring swapping whatever I go with for something heavier, but I'd like to try them out first of course. Ideally dont want the switches to be unobtanium or horrifically expensive, but otherwise pretty open to suggestions.

TKL or 65% keyboard?
I have a full size but I keep hitting it with my right hand when playing vidya
TKL is 139€
65% is 99€
I was tempted for the 65% but there's no tilde key which I use a lot when playing Skyrim or other games that have a console access, but it's a QMK keyboard and I can make a macro for it apparently
>>
>>107355695
on 65% some people map tilde to the right of backspace and put esc in tidle's old spot.

you can also get a board with split backspace where backspace becomes two keys, backslash and tilde, and then backspace goes where backslash used to be. i use a split backspace 60% and I like it like that
>>
>>107355736

It has over 7000 charachters (cuz layers). The funniest part? You only need ~3000 to read and write fluently. And the funnier part? You can write any japanese word, ANY, using nothing but a set of 45 characters (hiragana). So this keyboard is beyond unnecessary, yet they made it anyway, for the love of the game. Some old-ass Razer Blackwidow, which I like the feel of but I want something a bit nicer

I went to Micro Center today and tried out a bunch of Keychrons, was not huge on the feeling of the brown switches in the K8 and it was the only one they had in stock. The red switches on the Q5 felt really good, but missing some "click" that I guess I'm used to. So far, I've been looking at:
Realforce R3S
Epomaker Magcore 87
NuPhy Gem80
Keychron Q3 Max
Evoworks Evo80

I've heard shitty things about NuPhy and Keychron in terms of customer service, and really the biggest downside of the Realforce is very shallow customization. I was interested in the Wooting 80HE but the magnetic switch Keychron K2 HE I tried at Micro Center wasn't too impressive, plus Wooting seems like it's kind of a meme for anything but competitive gaming.

either realforce or evo80. nuphy's only good product is the air v3. keychron and epomaker are budget brands role-playing as quality keyboards. Realforce has a better typing experience and setting the accusation point is actually pretty neat for gaming. But evo80 is in another galaxy of build quality and design. Realforce is meant for an office. Evo80 has the Chinese design look that works better in a home if you don't mind the "toy" look to it. You are also cucking yourself out of an entire keyboard ecosystem with the Realforce.

It took countless amount of hammer punches back when i was still enjoying video games and i had to re-solder switches many times. Once every blue moon some key won't register. Not sure if it's because of the puching or semen that accidentally got there.

I need something wireless because i need it for work and home.
Also, i want something that has retro colors.

I came across that one but it doesn't come in black :/. For switches I have my eyes on Box Navy or Arctic Fox and MT3 Susuwatari for keycaps.

I've been looking for something that more or less matches my speakers (wood sides, brushed metal or black body). The keychron HE keyboards kind of fit that definition but they use hall effect switches and they come with a bunch of shit I don't really want. I guess best description is pircel stretched out to keyboard proportions.

This one is pretty interesting actually. I'll narrow it down between this and the Evo80, I suppose; however, I think it'll come down to what deals pop up come Monday, since the Evo80 seems to be staying largely at $160 new for any given color/switch combo across multiple sites.

I'm also not crazy about the 8bitdo keyboards but I'll check out those switches. Since switches are cheap I could just change them around later in whatever model I buy. I'm honestly more floored by how expensive keycap kits are.

https://keychron.com.es/products/keychron-q6-he-8k-magnetic-switch-keyboard-us-ansi-layout?variant=46704901226662
this one probably fits but it's expensive. still, TMR and 8kHz, and 100%. I'd like to see closeups for the chips on its PCB, that's a lot of columns to be driving like their older HE models, at 8kHz
>>
>>107383664
>The Q6 HE 8K is compatible exclusively with the Keychron Ultra-fast Lime Magnetic Switch. It does not support other magnetic switches, such as the Gateron Magnetic Jade or Gateron KS-20 Magnetic switches.
and it still seems like they're using KS-37B switches, with south pole facing the sensor. the nebula switches should theoretically be compatible
>>
>>107382125
I get why people like them, but I've tried linear switches in the past and... I don't like them, at all, personally. I come from a model M so I prefer tactile and loud as fuck. It just doesn't make sense to spend ~140€ on a board I'm unlikely to enjoy typing on, I'd rather buy another guitar pedal.

I know this isn't exactly the right thread to ask, but you are all keyboard nerds here, so you are probably anal about your mice too.
I'm in need of a new mouse but discovered they are all cheap plastic shits across all brands now.

>V6 case also looks like mass produced tranny case
I think it looks like a normal, healthy, not-surgically-altered keeb. I'm kinda iffy about the translucent ISO versions though, even if I haven't actually seen one live. In any case, I don't think it is realistic to look for a new non-mass produced full size keyboard
