How did you give the frontend a vertex api key? The only key it took for me was the key from google ai studio after I activated billing on the free trial. I was using it through silly tavern with a vertex service account yesterday. So I am not sure what the differences are between using an ai studio key and the service account, I got it to generate some images in ST with the service account but sometimes it wouldn't return an image for some reason. I think using this direct interface would be nicer so I can see if it is actually TRYING to generate. Honestly thats probably more accurate. When we look at an image or take a quick glance at it, any small incorrect or missing details just gets glossed over and we internally create justifications for the "mistake" we are seeing. "oh the lighting was bad" "oh there is depth of field" "image processing cooked it" and so on. I remember back in 2022 messing with SD 1.1 and the NAI leak. Back then I would spend hours wrangling it and inpainting. Then would be impressed even by sloppy outputs, but now it just works from a simple prompt. We truly have entered the age where you can trust nothing online. I haven't used that opus in a long time but from what I remember, the thing that made it stand out was how proactive it was. It wasn't the smartest or had magic prose, and it has as many -isms as any other modern SoTA, but it often took logs down new paths I didn't expect without wrangling.

If you want my honest opinion as someone who's been using it since day 1, it's a good model. Really good. All common problems with 2.5 were fixed, and as some anons already said, it's very creative. The biggest problem it has, in my opinion, is the prose that's pretty much the same from all previous gemini models. The model is VERY preset sensitive, so much that simply changing the order of your words can change completely how the model works with your cards, so the prose can be somewhat cleaned, even if still a bit purple

I like that too but the setting has to be old enough. It completely drops the ball with new settings like Dispatch. Luckily it responds really well to lore-books if you build the lore-book with actual information in it. It is just way more intensive to build if you don't want it to drop the ball on nuances in the setting. I'm fucking around with a Soul Eater bot right now where you are becoming Maka's weapon and it had a pretty good grasp of how everything worked with out a lore book. I was actually surprised. Grok 4.1 would handle multiple charecters fine and then the moment I took one over to do something even if I finished the post as Anon it would just stop role-playing that character and never pick it back up. Hmm actually this is something that happened to me but it was always because things weren't well defined. My preset says to maintain spatial awareness and keep track of clothing and so if I didn't properly explain that char took off her dress, if it decides to bring up the dress after the sex scene it will mention the state the dress was in last (again part of my preset). In the end the problem was user error or just more clear explanations of char or myself to help AI. I haven't seen any of the other stuff at all though.
