The G 4 and G 7 I had both had to be prematurely replaced because I dropped them and cracked the screens (that eventually started glitching on the touchscreens). It's probably on par with a 2019 Galaxy S but I like it. Was surprised to find out I now have to sideload Apex to get it down to the minimalist environment I like. I went from a regular SIM card to an eSIM with my previous provider and phone, cost me nothing to swap. Just popped the physical SIM card out of my phone and my new phone is eSIM only. Simply reset the old phone and erased the eSIM when getting rid of it, and the setup automagically set up the new eSIM on my new phone.

Only issue would be if you were completely offline with no coffee shop or library wifi and you needed to download (the QR code for) the eSIM really. Or if your provider charges you a fee to transfer eSIM to a new phone, then perhaps a physical SIM card would be more optimal. Or if you break your phone.

There is no way to turn the feature off. The toggle in the setting is actually useless. Trust me, I've tried it already. The toggle is off, but the phone treats it as if its on.
I know one of you will still try to "help" me, by suggesting this or that. But just know that if you do, I reserve the right to berate you for your arrogance.

But anyway, the phone is pretty good otherwise. A bit of bloatware included, but it's mostly unobtrusive, save for a notification every now and again that advertises all the useless features.

But despite how good the phone is, I will never buy another one, because it's galling that the phone screen turns on every time I pick it up.

This can be a pitfall, I reset my Android phone without removing it from my Google account - this made it so I couldn't log in fully with my new iPhone since it kept asking to check the old phone. Additionally, Authy wouldn't generate proper codes anymore, so I had to use a backup code. Make sure you grab backup codes from the Google Account settings.

If you have a more secure way of vetting logins they won't let you use a text message. I eventually had to remove the authenticator and readd it to get past a second login screen within Google account settings to finally remove my old phone from the account so it would stop asking me to check it.
