How long do you guys think we have before every major software stops supporting windows 10?
>>107377680I have the opposite prediction: microsoft will continue to extend support for w10.
>>107377716They already have, if you're in the EU windows 10 still gets updates and will until october 2026
>>10737768010 years.WIndows 7 is still supported for some programs
>>107377680its still 44% of the OS market and not going anywhere fast
>>107377680It took about 15 years for Steam to officially drop support for windows 7, so give or take until 2030 for that to happen to anything important, inevitable workarounds aside.
>>107377680I remember reading somewhere that Nvidia said they will drop support next year. They'll probably walk it back even if they did actually say it.
>>107377680Two more weeks!!!
>>107377680It doesn't matter because competent computer users can choose to use any OS or many without much issue. If serious users want soft their current main OS doesn't run they can simply add an OS which does. Storage is cheap, VMs are easy, multibooting is easy, hard drive swapping is easy. Computers are not difficult.Limiting oneself to one OS is for the helpless.
>>107377743Yeah we know, it’s like this everywhere else (including the US), too.
>>107379456*most programsReally it's just some browsers, Steam, Python, DirectX 12 games, Whatsapp that don't work.
>>107377716Yeah this. If they continue with the AI agent bullshit and people continue to just not buy into it then they will at some point cave and extend support for consumer W10 again.>inb4 they get so desperate we eventually get W10LTSC2035
>Steam OS>Retire from Windows for life
>>107377680Most companies which actually make their money from selling software will probably keep supporting W10 until the user base dwindles. I doubt they would want to cut their customer base in half because MS is throwing a hissy fit about nobody liking W11.
>>107377680I have all the software I need. No need for more.
>>107381346You run into absolutely zero problems playing whatever you want? 100%? No lie?
>>107377680Lack of software support for 10 would be entirely artificial, there is less of a difference between Windows 10 and 11 under the hood than there is between Vista and 7.
>>107377680who cares
>>107377680Well the jeets at QuickBooks already did
I'm buying a new laptop so I decided to install 11 ltsc on it when it arrives. I downloaded the iso from mass grave and I'm getting this error. Is it safe to ignore?
>>107381462No problem then, just keep using the software?
>>107377680Based on the situation experienced with XP or 7 (the only important versions of Windows from the 2000s), approximately one or two years. After that, you will have copes to fill the gap left by the lack of support, such as old browsers specifically adapted for your obsolete system, third-party drivers, third-party security updates, etc. You may be able to continue using some programs if you modify their files or downgrade them and prevent any updates.
>>107382413I really, really don't remember XP being unsupported by software 2 fucking years into Vista and certainly not W7 after 2 years into Windows 8 of all things.
>>107382472And your memory is good. I'm not talking about versions that have become ""obsolete"" because a successor or new version has been released, that never happened, I'm meant to the situation that followed the EOL.
>>107377680Bruh! Do what I did:Install Qubes OSFollow my breadcrumbs for building a right and proper Windows TemplateVM (desuarchive). I prefer Server editions, but YDY.Starts of chains:>>107376182>>107296308Windows in Qubes OS is not only possible, but it's also highly rewarding. You are master once more!
Even the latest version don't have official Win11 support. Tia Portal V21 is supposed to release this month.. Really says something about German software devs. Siemens is a German company anyway, no idea if the actual software is developed in Germany though.
i am betting in tandem with windows 11, circa early 2030
>>107383448Even Siemens NX runs on Qubes OS!
>>107377680don't care still on 7
>>107383448>>107383466proofs
>>107381416Me on the left.
>>107381462>Lack of software support for 10 would be entirely artificialThat is how it will happen. (((They))) did the same to Winblows 7. Code was put into software installers to block install on 7 when there was zero reason not to allow install on 7 besides "JUST FUCKIN' 'CUASE THAT'S WHY"
>>107381346>>107381451I can just write 2000 words essay on the problems i had today, but given that I did write to gaben I can just copy and paste the email I send to gaben today and a backstory for it. Granted I still do not want to write 2000 words salad on 4chan anymore but believe me, when someone mentions Linux, it is usually people who have a very limited scope of operations. Anyone else, has to cosplay as indian and write emails to Gaben to beg. And no, i am not kidding or lying. I may be an autist who cosplays as a jew irl, helped kill people, and has a very strange history of tech projects and contributions, including making pull requests that were accepted by vue while being an absolute noob on web dev stuff and vue... but i am not lying. I am just someone who can write a lot of words ... not a single one of which is a lie and i am also dangerously autistic.
>>107377680A while.Pretty much every major pre-built and laptop manufacturer (and/or HP-esque company that just slaps their name on whatever electronic slop they can get their sticky sausage fingers on) has pretty much admitted that an absurd amount of the machines out there still run with windows 10 and that customers still ask/request for windows 10 to be installed on their machines even if they no longer provide it.soyeah.
Q4 2028
2-3 years until developers start warning people to update before updates stop. 5-6 years before they actually go through it. Perhaps a lot longer if the shitfest that is W11 goes unfixed.
When the user share drops below 10% devs are gonna start dropping support. It's gonna be years before that happens.
>>107381256Steam still runs though. Whatsapp works on browsers as well
>>107385244>I may be an autist who cosplays as a jew irl, helped kill people, and has a very strange history of tech projects and contributionsStory time? Especially the killing part.
>>107385927I am too angry, tired and emotionally destroyed to write a long story. If i had some wins in my life i would spend the time writing but not now.
>>107385945You don't have to, just clarify the point about helping kill people. Everything else is secondary to that.
>>107386011in short I was advocating for mandatory vaccinations on some people i did not like during covid and some of them got sick from it. Not really dead but one has a hearth health condition so soon. People I liked however, I was far more lenient on and basically was like "nah, if you want to do it, do it but, you better not". This is the short version of it.
The avg Normie can get by with win 7 still with supermium browser, office 2016
