>Creates two successful Video Games>Creates his own Programming Language for Video Games>Hates basically everything about the current state of softwareWhat does /g/ think of him?
>>107394872he makes puzzle games that are not particularly good (ie not on the same level as the Myst series). he wont release his language which is honestly holding back game dev as a whole. he spends his time streaming on twitch doing basic bitch game dev instead of teaching people how to make games with his language. he is honestly boring to watch, there are much better game dev streamers than him by far
>>107395056>which is honestly holding back game dev as a wholehow? it's just garbage scripting language
>>107395087everyone who does game dev is stuck on C++. The Rust borrow checker is just to laborious for anyone to take seriously in game dev. He could spend his time teaching people how to make games in Jai since that was the purpose of the language was to fix game dev and programming in general, but somehow that is not important to him to teach people to use his language. why even bother with someone who has created a solution but wont talk about it and hides his solution from the public?
>>107395139People who had access to the beta had a how_to folder which taught you how the language works
Well he's right. Everything is way behind and compsci has stagnated and even gone backwards.J.blow is a prophet and ahead of his time and will be a legendary figure in the future. Also there is always a thread about him here which says something.
>>107394872He's a whiny bitch with bad opinions. If this culture war nonsense was not present he would be wholly irrelevant, which tells you a lot about his technical merit.
>>107394872I watch him for amusement, his takes are funny sometimes. A lot of it sounds plausible too. He should stop doing public talks though, he has waaay less say in things than he likes to think.
>>107395056>ie not on the same level as the MystMyst is a game for retards. There are barely any puzzles in it.
>>107395139Why would anyone ever choose to use C++ for game dev in the year 2025?
>>107395168Jai is more than just another language, just knowing the syntax of Jai is not going to get anyone making games with it unless theyre higly advanced programmers. JBlow is a very good teacher, he is good at teaching about bad concepts in programming that everyone uses and blindly accepts and he is good at teaching his concepts that are solutions. Now that his language is here, why did he stop teaching everyone his new way of programming? His twitch streams are just him moving his characters around the game level and talking about basic bitch gameplay options
>>107394872I've made 3 toy languages with functional compilers and usable programs. I wouldn't even consider myself a top tier developer. This guy is an overrated retard.
>>107395332you obviously havent played the games and probably werent alive when they were popular
>>107394872Did anybody actually use Jai and if so how is it? Is it actually a good alternative for programming games or is it just another failed C++ killer?
>>107396144Yes people were able to use Jai its in closed beta. A lot of people seemed to love it
>>107395087>how? it's just garbage scripting languageRetard>>107395372>Why would anyone ever choose to use C++ for game dev in the year 2025?Retard zoomer
>>107394872He's a good programmer, but when he talks about anything else he sounds like a dumbass
>>107394872>Creates two successful Video GamesAnd was brought to tears by Soulja Boy and The Looker making fun of said games.
>>107396254Why are you talking as if everyone has been kicked out of the beta? Is there something recent i've missed or are you just using wrong phrasing and the plan to release it with the game remains the same?
>back-pedal'd on his OSlame
>>107396931>The Looker making fun of said games.Does anyone have an archive of him talking about it? Apparently he talked about it but I can't find a clip of him talking about it>>107396941Yeah everything is fine no news that everyone is kicked out of the beta
And last but not least>got mentally vanquished by soulja boy
>>107394872>goes to functional programming conference, when his language is not functional>compares lisp which is high-level to a low-level languages to prove lisp is not great>every single shit coming out of his mouth is him coping and seething about features that his preferences do not possesshe's retarded and insufferable
>>107396144I've been using jai for the last 1.5 months, I really like it. C was my favorite language before because I like having full control over everything (and i dont wanna put up with modern C++ horseshit). I can tell Jai has been designed from the ground up to give you as much control as C but to make the act of writing and building code as fast and easy as possible. It's super easy to work with strings and arrays, super easy to write build scripts, you dont have to make header files and you can just specify when youre writing something where you want to make it available. Even making custom memory allocators and plugging them in wherever you want them is very simple. Very powerful support for polymorphic functions and data types too. The standard library has tons of good shit for games, modules for every graphics API, a module for SDL, lots of math stuff like vectors and matrices, stuff to help with metaprogramming and making allocators, it has the Codex tool that Jon has shown before, profilers, stuff to generate bindings for existing C code so you can use whatever C libraries you want too. The language feels like they've asked "what are all of the things a person making a game from scratch might want to do, and how can the language make all of that as fast and easy as possible". Compile times are lightning fast too.Only thing about the language that might turn some people off is that it assumes you're only working with x64, ints are 8 bytes by default, pointers are 8 bytes, etc. I think Jon has said before he's not prioritizing support for x86 architectures before the public launch
>>107397537What does it get you over Odin other than compile times (when not using the LLVM backend)?
>>107394872braid and the witness were both amazing gaming experiences for me so I don't care how annoying he is
>>107397581Ive never used Odin so I cant really say for sure, but the biggest difference would probably be Jai's compile time execution which is ridiculously powerful once you start to see what it can do. Right now I mostly use it to compute stuff at compile time and make the runtime code faster but other people who have been using the language for longer than me are doing insane shit with it. The way you work with modules vs packages seems to be a little different as well
>>107394872the only person that will ever love him is his own mother
He really triggers 4cheddit for some reason. Probably because he's a larping faggot like your average 4choid but somehow he still actually accomplished some shit. The Witness is a great game.
Didn't he say a few months ago that the game was coming out before the end of this year?
>>107397930>He really triggers 4cheddit for some reasonProbably because he actually made games and software and probably more than most Anons
>>107397818I'm pretty sure he has spoken about not having a good relationship with his parents
>>107394872ive seen him lust after egirls on twitter. I respect his software skills but he has the personality of a contrarian midwit, like most of the people on this board.
>>107398107His hot takes are also retarded, going on about shit like "no real C programmer uses ++i for incrementing" when he hasn't written a single line of C code in at least 25 years.
JAI will never ever come out. dude's a game flop away from blowing his brains out
Just zig it out dood
>>107394872>Creates his own Programming Language for Video GamesIf it's not released how do you know it's true
