This won't work for them at all, yeah, they'll force people to go to the office every day, but they still won't do any work like they did from their homes.
In these 10k worker massive corpos there's so much people working there that there's barely any control over the employees, and have to take into account that the middle managers "controlling" them don't give a shit either.
People only work on these mega corpos for the six figure wage, they could as well be working somewhere else and they would continue just being there for the wage.
>>

I work from home for a company that started as pure WFH and has no office and has never had any office, so no risk of "going back to office".

I think it's the only safe way, long term.
>>

(only the second group is being honest)
>>
>>107413791
I'm in the third group.
I don't work many hours, but I work smart.

In software development, 1 hour of thinking can save weeks of implementation. That's essentially my secret. Procrastinate, delay, blank page... but still think about the problem in the background.

Once I've thought about the problem enough, there is an intense implementation phase, over a few days.

This way, single-handedly, I achieve more than teams of 10 people doing a stand up every morning and micro-managing and constantly re-thinking every detail.

This should not even be controversial. Great software is written by very small groups of people. All the top open source software is written by generally one or two core contributors, with the exception of some very large projects (e.g. Linux).

I'm kind of in a similar boat. So I just figure it's not worth it. Not the richest guy around by any means but I live comfortably and pay my bills with extra left over so why add new stress to my life.

I'm writing this while shitting at home while WFM.

At home, I have 49" superwide screen and a standing desk, and I can use linux to work (cybersecurity stuff). At office, we have shitty chairs, shitty screens, shitty connection, shitty coffee, expensive food and I have to use windows if someone is looking over my shoulder not to raise questions.

I do like my colleagues but not that much.

Also I have kids so it's great to be at home if something happens. My workday is quite a bit longer when WFM, I sit here like from 7-16ish, but I take my dogs for a 15min walk along the day

>tech workers traditionally hate unions since they used to be a hot commodity, could realistically negotiate with management themselves for a better pay package/benefits. Massive salaries, good hours, labor market was solid even despite multiple bubbles bursting in the tech industry's face. At least until startup culture took hold and the move was to try and get in early with stock options, so they took shit pay and horrible hours for the chance to get a paycheck on acquisition; essentially indentured servitude to some venture capitalist "ceo"
>that or they had to work at FAANG who were dramatically overpaying employees to prevent competitors from having any decent talent

Years later
>there are no protections against offshoring
>there are no protections against RTO initiatives
>there are no protections against wage stagnation
>combine this with a largely faltering tech market outside of LLMs, software developers are suddenly in a market where they can easily be replaced by someone with better credentials than them for less pay because they're all being laid off simultaneously

You have no negotiating power with upper management. They will replace you with who are essentially either offshore scabs, or onshore ones who are desperate enough to take the pay cut, move to a HCOL area, and deal with a horrible commute to try and hold on until the next cycle of layoffs. This is the future you chose.
>>
>>107422132
>They will replace you with who are essentially either offshore scabs
And importantly, they will do so with the full-throated support of the capital L Left.
The labour left is a tiny minority now, most of it now is third-worldists who love importing immigrant scabs to own the chuds.

Well, you can do some serious RSI damage with poor posture. It's cheaper to buy you a decent chair, usually.
