>>107405951Jesus Christ, that's insane. If I don't know whether I got the job after 3 interviews, I'm not even interviewing at it. For top 10 companies, I would consider going to 4 interviews.

Someone called me back for an interview in testing.
>>107405880How can you be underemployed for 10 straight years?
I honestly hate when I get a phone call from an Indian. I can't fucking hear what you are saying.
>>107405930US interviews are more like pageants to see if they like you and if you can pass the shibboleth. They don't actually probe whether you can do the job or if you have potential.
>>107406505That’s the whole point. If you graduate college and are underemployed within the first year, statistically you will never escape underemployment

How fucked are tech jobs in 2025? Last I applied was like 3-4 yrs ago and I got a job quickly but that was in a much better market. I left my job about a year ago now due to burnout and just NEETed out for a year.If it's a remote job I'll work for near min wage lmao. I don't give a fuck.

I still don't understand the economics of this job market. If there really are thousands of qualified applicants for every junior level job opening, why don't employers just start paying minimum wage? They'll thin out the applicant pool by a lot and the ones left will be the most dedicated hardworking people who are passionate about coding instead of just doing it for the money. And it will make the hiring process a lot easier and faster for everybody when there aren't a thousand resumes to have to look through.
>>107408473lmao, if the junior positions can be filled at minimum wage that's the end of SWE as a career, at that point they will make all junior roles minimum wage and import a trillion h1bs since now they don't have to pay them 90-100k to meet the average market wage.
>>107408690What does any of this have to do with h1b's? The job market is already saturated to hell with just American citizens. If they paid minimum wage, there would still be enough Americans applying for these jobs. The h1b program should be completely shut down in this economy.
>>107405930Depends what you interview for. My friend went through 7 interviews for a hospital mid level management job. I'm in anesthesia, so it's basically me interviewing them to see if I want to work there kek. The job I chose recently has 8% 403b match and 8 weeks vacation.
>>107408754Why the fuck is an anesthesiologist posting in a thread of unemployed tech workers?
>>107408772larping
>>107408473CEOs only care about the next quarter earning, if I can say that juniors are obsolete because AI can do their job and fire a big chunk of them that will look amazing on paper since its less spending and therefore more profit. They are betting on other companies doing the hiring and training the next batch of senior engineers they can hire later and they can blame other things and lobby for more H1Bs later when there is a lack of senior engineers.
>>107407833Is this chart implying that the demand for mid and senior level software devs is actually higher today than it was during peak covid zero interest rate hiring mania? Because that's not plausible at all.
>>107408473i don't even understand what you're askingthe market is as bad as it is because of a confluence of issues, not because of a single one. there's not enough jobs, jobs are being cut, theres too many applicants, jeets are shitting up the applicant pool, hr is filled with jeets that only want to hire jeets, and the hr retards that aren't jeets are roasties that don't know what a good candidate looks like.
>>107408848All of that boils down to one simple issue of supply and demand. When there's a surplus of supply, prices always go down. If the hiring statistics are to be believed, there's at least a 100:1 ratio of supply to demand so wages should be at the absolute floor right now.
>>107408473Can you stop spamming this every fucking thread please?
>>107408807The graph is the number of employed people, and its normalized for the launch date of ChatGPT.Growth in employment continued for over-30 year old programmers, but slowed down. For under 30, it declined by 10% and 20% for the respective groups.
>>107408876thats nice, high school economics aren't realit doesn't matter what the "supply and demand" is when HR is setting retardedly high requirements for glorified excel fillers, AI is filtering out another 70% of qualified candidates, and recruiters are ghosting the remaining 30% of applicants
>>107408919How is that possible when there have been something like half a million layoffs in tech since 2021 and the entire US economy is pretty much running on fumes?
>>1074089621. the people being laid off are the under 30yo's 2. "ai engineer" is a programmer job

I recently got asked this question in a coding interview and I don't remember the exact phrasing but I asked gemini to phrase it - You are working on a cryptanalysis tool for a custom encryption scheme. The encryption process works by substituting every character in the plaintext with a specific pair of characters (a 2-character string). However, the encryption key used is imperfect (ambiguous): multiple distinct characters in the plaintext can map to the same pair of characters in the ciphertext.Given the ciphertext string and a dictionary of keys, your task is to decrypt the ciphertext and return a list of all possible original plaintext strings.Function DescriptionWrite encrypt and decrypt functions given:input: alphanumeric stringdict: An object where each entry represents a plaintext character and its corresponding 2-character encryption code.

>>107414603I saw my dream job yesterday (this is in England) advertised on a job website. I clicked it to apply, and it took me to the company website, rather than applying through the job website. But that's fine; if anything, it's actually better. And the company isn't a recruitment company! It was the actual website for a housing association called Great Places Housing, or something like that. But! The URL was for a company called "Networx". I don't believe it was a scam, partly because I checked my passwords and I already had an account after applying there probably in 2015-16, but really, talk about shady shit.

They said they need to talk together after the call and I'd hear back soon. Told me the next steps are an hr personality test, may or may not need to talk to VP, and finally an offer letter. >>107425113The secret is that there is no "final interview". >>107425280>>The hiring manager recommended you, but the VP wants to meet both candidates too, so we need to do one more round. They told me this after my interview today. That I may or may not need to speak to the VP and after that it's an offer letter, even if I dont end up speaking to him. I've noticed more people saying they had to do this, is this new? >>107425690>Did you have to do any leetcode grinding? Or was it just questions asked in a conversational style? It was a cybersecurity job so they asked me networking, ttp, cloud platforms, incident response, and detection engineering questions. Generally they asked a question then used my answer to springboard into deeper concepts. I actually really enjoyed the format, learned some stuff and even told them some stuff they didn't know about internet history. It was all a conversational format. I studied general networking basics and questions I bombed in interviews with other companies.

They terrify you into studying things you'll never be expected to know on the job, ask you ridiculous questions that you didn't study for and will never encounter, and then in the end they are just going off their gut feeling about you and nothing more.Unless of course you are being interviewed by an Indian shitskin invader or a jew- then you are 100% just their "diversity" interview so they don't get called out for hiring too many of their own, in which case you should give zero fucks about preparing for it.
>>107426283>The truth is if they like your vibe, it won't matter what you did or didn't know, they will be forgiving and know you can learn on the job. This was the exact feedback I got from the recruiter who spoke to them after my first call. That I had gaps in my knowledge, but I seemed driven and like a self learner. We went 40 minutes over time in that first interview and the team lead said the only reason we were still talking is because he was impressed by my attitude and projects that I demoed. There's 3 open positions and only me and one other person out of 8 made it to the final stages. He outright said he didn't pass other interviewees to the final stage even though they had more cloud knowledge than me. I'm really hopeful and even did a full "why I want THIS job" spiel at the end, that tells a story from how my previous experiences lead into this specific role and context. >ask you ridiculous questions that you didn't study for and will never encounterThey were relevant questions and I actually learned a bit.>Unless of course you are being interviewed by an Indian shitskin invader or a jew- then you are 100% just their "diversity" interview so they don't get called out for hiring too many of their own, in which case you should give zero fucks about preparing for it.They were not either of those.
>>107426237That seems like a temporary solution desu, only so many fake interviews i can get away with before he would start asking questions. He’s obsessed with devops and cloud shit though, he thinks i should be doing that and pretty much anything else is a waste of time. Ironic considering he literally has a fake email job.
>>107426382Don't lie but give him false hope. Just hype up every interview or where you're applying so he thinks something will happen. When it doesn't then say something else is about to happen.

Maybe ask him to hook you up with his network if you get the certs to prove youre dedicated.
Told my parents I'm probably not gonna be able to find a job after graduation. I'm a 22yo junior, 0 internships, shitty projects, been severely depressed all through uni I've done fuck-all in my time here. They will probably let me NEET for a while at least
>>107426461I don’t think he needs any certs because he hasn’t tried to get any. And I don’t think his job is hiring atm. >>107426584>I would ask but he’s kind of condescending sometimes, and he lectures me enough anyway. Then it sounds like he would want to do it. It will at worst get him off your back for a while, at best it could be a nice thing together or get you a job. You can also cannibalize his knowledge for personal projects.>And I don’t think his job is hiring atm.Not necessarily his job, but his network. Former coworkers or family that do similar work.
>>107426607>Then it sounds like he would want to do it. It will at worst get him off your back for a while, at best it could be a nice thing together or get you a job.I’ll try, thanks for the advice. The main problem is he thinks I should be doing devops or becoming a cloud engineer or SRE but I have no desire to do that, I’d rather get a CompTIA cert and do IT support or something. Ofc he thinks that’s a waste of time, but I’d rather do that than be a software engineer. Ideally I would get some bullshit email job but I guess those are really hard to come by nowadays.
